I can't imagine how high the standards are in mainland china where you go to school with like 50 kids in your class, being the best and standing out becomes absolutely essential, and not being able to achieve that might result in you not receiving good education or a good job.

Yeah, Nymphia isn’t really getting the same underdog edit as Jinkx. I think because Nymphia is so much more polished as far as looks, make up and branding. In your twenties, in this kind of high pressure environment that makes it breaks a career, it’s natural to be stressed. Goodness knows the older wiser Sephira panicked and drank her immunity for no good reason. But when we’re seeing this edit, and it’s so obvious that she’s doing amazing, her appearing this worried and listening so closely to an inner saboteur so obviously talking bullshit, kinda just comes off as a lack of self awareness and awareness of her position in the competition that’s either baffling or disingenuous. That is many grandparents and parents affected by that and hate crime when many of us migrated from the East to Western societies. The reason being alot of us are “perfectionists” is bc expectation, having the need to have “thick skin” is what mainly and alot of the time what only what many of our ppls had to hold onto for survival, living or moving on. War ain’t right. Trauma gets inherited and passed onto generation. I don’t like to bring this kinda ish up.. But ofc not *all* asians are perfectionists. But the expectations, strictness, and “stereotypical” traits or tendencies that are shown in asian households or culture. Alot of these things are impacted from society and its history with its people. Just trying to bring in light and some more info on why it seems like it’s a “joke” but at same time “true” many folks, it won’t be. But for many more I feel personally being asian myself. We do carry alot of expectations within us as many others who aren’t do as well. It’s just bc of culture and how many are raised. And ngl the Eastern culture IS very strict!!! Many kids work past 12 hours a day just for school from Junior High/ High School all the way up to finding a job in adulthoods, it’s honestly too much imho

I can relate to Nymphia. I'm the type of person to hardcore panic, doubt my skills, and freak out before a due date, even if I know that I'll do perfectly fine. My mind just blanks at first, which is still terrifying even if I know it'll come to me later. Now imagine having that on an international TV show in a high-pressure place where you're literally trapped until the end and production could screw you over at a moment's notice. I could never.

I have intense self-doubt doing any work but will often get praised 4 the result. I know y some1 high-performing would act the way Nymphia does. It just makes it easier 2 accept when u do flop or just not up 2 standard. I can imagine after Snatch Game Nymphia thought, “least I prepared myself 4 that.” It’s just much easier 2B proud of urself after knowing u succeeded. It’s easier 2 acknowledge ur talent when u have relief. It’s not uncommon 2 feel like “I have the skills 2 rlly slay this but what if I don’t? I don’t even know what 2 do.”

I think while they can be “games” I used to get anxiety a LOT especially when it comes to things I’m good at. It’s the pressure to keep performing well and keep pushing, so by saying you didn’t do well it’s a coping mechanism to expect for the worse like a safety blanket that helps you feel like “oh I expected that”. I’m not sure if that’s nymphias thing since she does take a lot of pride in her drag but I will say even now, when I know my strengths well I still fall back into this pattern quite a lot, which is understandably quite rattling in a competition.
If you actually put yourself in their position, you'll be surprised too; It is because Nymphia's projection is hysterical, panicking, anxious and no evidence of focus whenever she's with the girls. When she gets back to her hotel, that's where the magic happens.
As an Asian I can relate 100% to Nymphia, I guess it’s not a mind game but more like anxiety because in life our parents demand perfection from us and if we can’t deliver we feel so bad about that 😿 😭 😢

People just dont get it. I was terrified of getting below 95% in my filippino, mandarin, mandarin math class because when me and my fellow tutormates got low 90s and 80s our tutors would smack our hands with meter sticks. I dont know if it's still a thing. But at the time I literally thought of killing myself over low marks. Chinese tutors can be brutal, especially when you go to an exclusive private school. I can see Nymphia going through this, so I get it. This was around 2001-2004 when I was 6-10 yearsold before moving abroad. It's not cool they're faulting her freaking out over some challenges. It's valid. I still do this. Sometimes it just shuts you down, and you just want to hit your head on the wall.
I know people who react to stress like Nymphia and after a while they need to keep that shit to themselves because they end up over stressing themselves and those around them

I’m Japanese and I swear to god the stress around my mom screaming at me to perfect and complete everything to the highest degree or else “I was gonna die” made me exactly likes this. My uni friends would ask me how I keep such a high score in my classes and I said “I must have everything finished 2 days before the due date so I can clean and perfect the finished result or else I’m gonna die.” Like stressing myself out is the process to everything in my life for the last 2 decades, I’m working on a healthier tactic though

This explains along with natural skill why growing up I was a perfectionist pianist and instrumentalist…my piano teacher was Chinese! It turns out though it’s also just a trait of pianists. But she passed her a Chinese culture in to me in my training.

I have intense self-doubt doing any work but will often get praised 4 the result. I know y some1 high-performing would act the way Nymphia does. It just makes it easier 2 accept when u do flop or just not up 2 standard. I can imagine after Snatch Game Nymphia thought, “least I prepared myself 4 that.”
It’s just much easier 2B proud of urself after knowing u succeeded. It’s easier 2 acknowledge ur talent when u have relief. It’s not uncommon 2 feel like “I have the skills 2 rlly slay this but what if I don’t? I don’t even know what 2 do.”
People who are good at what they do can also be extremely anxious. Being talented does not equal boundless confidence.

I think while they can be “games” I used to get anxiety a LOT especially when it comes to things I’m good at. It’s the pressure to keep performing well and keep pushing, so by saying you didn’t do well it’s a coping mechanism to expect for the worse like a safety blanket that helps you feel like “oh I expected that”. I’m not sure if that’s nymphias thing since she does take a lot of pride in her drag but I will say even now, when I know my strengths well I still fall back into this pattern quite a lot, which is understandably quite rattling in a competition.

As an Asian I can relate 100% to Nymphia, I guess it’s not a mind game but more like anxiety because in life our parents demand perfection from us and if we can’t deliver we feel so bad about that 😿 😭 😢

The thing about mind game is she tricks somebody, which she doesn't. That's why I find this convo is quite weird because she doesn't fool anybody. She just wants to convince herself that she can do it.
People just dont get it. I was terrified of getting below 95% in my filippino, mandarin, mandarin math class because when me and my fellow tutormates got low 90s and 80s our tutors would smack our hands with meter sticks. I dont know if it's still a thing. But at the time I literally thought of killing myself over low marks. Chinese tutors can be brutal, especially when you go to an exclusive private school. I can see Nymphia going through this, so I get it. This was around 2001-2004 when I was 6-10 yearsold before moving abroad.
It's not cool they're faulting her freaking out over some challenges. It's valid. I still do this. Sometimes it just shuts you down, and you just want to hit your head on the wall.
I know people who react to stress like Nymphia and after a while they need to keep that shit to themselves because they end up over stressing themselves and those around them

I’m Japanese and I swear to god the stress around my mom screaming at me to perfect and complete everything to the highest degree or else “I was gonna die” made me exactly likes this. My uni friends would ask me how I keep such a high score in my classes and I said “I must have everything finished 2 days before the due date so I can clean and perfect the finished result or else I’m gonna die.” Like stressing myself out is the process to everything in my life for the last 2 decades, I’m working on a healthier tactic though

This is called self-protection from CRAB MENTALITY. Those who are best are the easy targets. Those who are (pretend) weak can glide and slide their way without much distractions.
I might be wrong but I feel like it's a very asian thing to do😅. As a South Asian myself, everyone I grew up with, we all did this ourselves but always got really annoyed when other ppl would do it in front of us. "Oh I'm gonna fail! I know it 😭". But I'm also a veeeerrrryyyy anxious person so idk.
Also, isn't it interesting that both Nymphia n Sapphira drank the immunity potion the week they did good but thought they might land in the bottom. N these r the two queens we know r gonna be the final two.😄
This explains along with natural skill why growing up I was a perfectionist pianist and instrumentalist…my piano teacher was Chinese! It turns out though it’s also just a trait of pianists. But she passed her a Chinese culture in to me in my training.
