Wow lmao that sounds terrible
@@dripxloading Yep, hooks stayed broken forever.
And then survivors in the chase would run tp the far corners or upstairs of that iron works, so they could struggle off every time.
@@positiivi_teme old iron grasp used to be a thing
But then everyone ran iron grasp and agitation, and also no one did gens it they were sabotaging
One thing that didn't change since 2016 is Claudette's invisibility

@@ViolentSh4de yeah you know you're lying to yourself.
@@ViolentSh4de "super easy" are you joking?

But I literally have about 10 clips of me hiding in a corner and the killer walking by me in the last month
I dont think she's "super easy to see"
And I am glad it didnt ;) Well one thing changed. Now if you play claudette a lot of people get toxic and cry "blendette" ;)
Imagine trying to trap an infinite and by the time you placed it they could run half way across the map
Or escaped xD
It took like 5 seconds to set a trap and while you were setting it they literally beat feet so far at that you felt like an asshole
Edit: and forget about it if it was a lobby full of jakes
Or they run to the next infinite
Yeah.. but the old trap animation was waaaay cooler tho, not gonna lie. Took me a while to accept the new one
Chico Dust-E yup, if we saw jakes in the lobby I would just dodge 😂
At this time sabo was permanent. Aka everyone ran iron grasp and agitation.
I remember thu3 actually used to use it a lot for bloodpoints.
Aka Grasp took forever to get out of. You could be at the edge of the map and killer still has a chance to bring you to the basement
The ENRGY it wasn’t near as bad as any of the loops that were in this game, or generator speed, or med kits, or basically anything survivors had at their disposal. The only reason we, killers, could catch survivors was because they weren’t as efficient with loops and windows.
@@zacmarvel6369 yeah ik

I started playing in winter of 2017 then pig was added in January 😂
Was part of the the Freddy crew then they nerfed him a day later lol
You know this is old when no one went to save the guy that got hooked even after Claudette was “chased” for so long. It shows how terrified we were of the killers.
Lord eRazor It was amazing tbh, just the feeling of genuine panic and fear at seeing killers walking towards you or wondering where they were. Personally I never played a survival horror before or since that gave me that same kind of experience. If it hadnt been for horrible state of lobbies at the time I would have played it non-stop.
No, this is still how some survivors play lol
@@slimp6532 Maybe at low ranks. People at rank 5 and lower always save unless it's noed
@@xd-mw4kx Rank 5 is pretty high you just conceded ranks below 5 this is common and that's way too often for my tastes. Getting 1 hooked or two hooked is not very fun.
New Players are still scared :D nothing changed tbh
Back then I'm guessing the devs simply didn't have a clear vision for what the gameplay was going to like beyond just "hide and seek" and what dbd is today is a result of them embracing and balancing the game around looping.
except did you see quentin smith just run around the same pile of trash for a minute in NOES? no.
they hid, and ran AWAY.
Survivors should have a speed nerf while retracing scratch marks.
Sounds pretty solid. From personal experience back in the day most people hid and didn't loop. Eventually though after they figured out window cheesing and infinites, the devs slowly started to realize how gameplay shifted and started slowly but steadily remaking the game to be balanced around loops.

It was not only faster, you would also get a vacuum, so you get sucked into the window. Basically the vault started way before the animation started.
@@toasingtoast2034 it looks even faster than that still lol
The one thing I remember about 2016 DbD was how maps had large patches of tall grass. It was so much fun crouching to hide in it and genuinely tense when the killer brushed up against you. But it also made Claudette insanely powerful with stealth b/c she could basically disappear once she entered, it was literally the height of Blendette’s powers and looking back it was RIDICULOUS how strong that was. Like we joke about Blendettes being invisible but 2016 was the closest she ever got to truly being uncatchable.
Even worse was the darkest moon in the farm
@@MrLeonardord Darkest moonlight and the reagents...lmao
Kayla oh my god I forgot about that shit! Yeah the moonlight offerings didn’t help, although tbh I never noticed much of a difference when they were used. Kind of a pointless offering but I think the idea behind it was basically the same as reagents.
@@SuperGreenSmartie Yeah, I almost forgot about then as well! Using them both on the darker maps was hell for some people! (Darkest moonlight + 3 reagent offerings...not fun for the killer!)

The reason most people got caught back then was that most people were playing the game like a horror game. And by that I mean that survivors actually were scared by killers and weren't always using purely competitive strategies.

As someone who learned the game with Trapper, I miss that trap setting animation (just not how slow it was!)
I agree with your main point. The reason why killers "always" get buffed is because the baseline is nuts. I started shortly after Hag was added (the game looked too derpy in early access for me) and I remember 99ing gens before regression was a thing and vacuum pallets, etc. All of that was awful. The game has certainly come a long ways.
At least when survivors achieve this now in current day DbD, it requires fast thinking and you're constantly having to be move and anticipate which helps "create" mistakes and openings. Still can be frustrating against an optimal survivor but it's something.
FrontlinerDelta omg I forgot that old trapper animation, I don’t know why they got rid of it. The new one looked so shitty in comparison
I think the killer and survivor dynamic is just fundamentally flawed. It wasn't designed too well. Much respect to the devs for working with what they've got, it just doesn't have that helpless survival horror feel they were trying to get though.
I was also super confused as to why they even replaced his old animation. I miss it
@@armontek9084 To be fair, that feeling dies after a certain amount of exposure. That's why when some people play too many horror games theyjust start to... get boring.
I suspect they replaced the animation with the new one when they buffed the speed because the animation would've looked wonky being sped up that much. The animation was designed for an obscenely slow setting speed, so it wouldn't look right going that much faster. Don't get me wrong, though; I agree it was much more interesting looking than the current one. Another thing is that the old animation actually was the wrong way. It shows the trapper setting them parallel to the direction he's facing, but they actually set perpendicular (and I'm pretty sure they set that way even back then, although please correct me if I'm wrong about that). So as soon as the animation ends, the traps had to magically turn 90 degrees.
So I agree it looked cooler, but I get why it needed to be changed. They probably could've changed it to something with a little bit more character to it, though.
Tru forgot the MOST BALANCED tool survivors had: Pre-patch BNP. Insta-pop a gen. Did they even have a balance team back then? xD
Yeah I have a feeling that the devs never expected anyone to actually be good at their game. They never anticipated players going beyond just dropping a pallet and running away to a new one. Same with vaults. It was only until much later did they address the issues with vaults and pallets.
@@justmonika2345 I think it's not expecting players to get good, it's not forseeing what good players would do with the systems in place.
@@leadpaintchips9461 That's pretty much where I was going with it. It's not like they were good players to begin with. We all have watched Mathieu play and he plays close to a rank 20.

A note on this:
Many people are like, "Makes me appreciate what we have now!"
Do not have this mentality. Killers have had the short end of the stick since this game's inception. It has taken this long and the devs STILL refuse to do anything substantial in terms of balance. Note that this build of the game that we have now took YEARS to get to, and it's still horribly imbalanced.
There has been major strides of course, but honestly this starts to really answer some questions right now in regards to the lack of foresight or just the general lack of consideration for how high level players would interact with the game balance from the game inception. Like the game was created under the assumption no one would ever be 'good' at it, so any sort of discussion about efficient use of these mechanics was never had. I almost guarantee despite its obviousness the devs most likely never even considered or realized that stalling around a pallet would be a thing because they were assuming everyone would just drop pallets straight away and never think 'i can run around this for alot longer', it seems like the ONLY way to justify infinites even existing in full force was once again a aggressive disregard for anyone committing to learning any of the nuances of the game and once again fully believing that one one in the game would ever think more then five minutes past 'see window vault, keep running'.
At honestly it shows, so many issues with the game are ground up inception issues, huge balance or problem issues that existed since the start of the game (Killers being only reactionary, generator speeds, Pallet looping), balance and problem issues that exist because at the games inception, no one even tried to humor the idea that people might get 'good' at the game and start finding even marginally efficient ways to use the mechanics. It feels like the game was designed from the ground up for Rank 20s and no one of any other skill level, if your not bad at the game, the game falls apart around you.
@@njrk97 And that's why only high skilled Red Ranks are unbalanced. Because so many survivors are bad due to the unlimited number of crutches they've had over the years. If you really think about it, one of the first DLC's was the Halloween DLC which had the infamous DS. So survivors had to somehow fuck up these amazingly easy to run loops and they could still just get away, with the tap of a button.
Connor Sweeten killers are op to the average solo survivors. if you’re a swf or just have a good team you can beat the killer but alone svrs can’t do anything
You killer mains seem to forget that you constantly hit survivors through pallets with your trash host
Babiisosa totally not true. Even solo, survivors have the advantage as long as they know what they’re doing
I remember Mcote and Richard having a hard time admitting that the map design was flawed... wait the Devs still have that problem.
I used to play dbd when the flashlight had the instablind addons, when there were literally infinites, and I remember when nurse came and it was so weird to not play against a trapper, a wraith or a billy
And of course the fucking vacuum pallets, looping was too easy
I always think like "If I was playing back then I'd be owning these ppl running the loops like gods" but all the knowledge I know was unknown back then, so there's no guarantee I'd be as good back then. Seeing those loops is just crazy. Idk how Survivors were ever bad enough to go down to this. But its because of seriously strong items, and bad map design that most Survivor players are bad. Because they have way more crutches to rely on.
I can barely watch killer point of view videos from 2018 just because of the mental pain it brings me, and I'm not even the one playing. Watching 2016 footage, that makes me cherish what we have now.
iv played since the game came out , and i remember going against a SWF that had 2 people doing infinite loops away from the gens, so i left them alone to chill in the loops and actually caught their 2 friends and after that they had to come down away from the loops to do gens. I'm glad that they just boarded up all the open windows instead of just redoing the texture for the whole wall. Almost like a testament to the progress that's been made.
I guess I’m glad I started playing this game just last year. How did killers even manage to get kills back then?
Probably because all survivors were what we now call rank20s
I remember the dark times... I remember maining Hillbilly in one match, there were only three options and I always saw Hillybilly as the most viable, and the survivors sabotaged all the hooks, except for the basement. I slugged them all. They called me trash, but I called them that for using ultra rare items and still losing.
This being said I really enjoy the game in its current state. I main survivor now. I have to remind my friends of the old times when they get nostalgic. My only issue with the game from a survivors perspective is that, at times, the hitboxes are a bit wonky, but that could be because of latency.
Also in private matches I’m banned from being killer because my friends think it’s not fair. Lol.
Also I call them the darktimes, because of the old moonlight offerings, also because Survivors were overpowered like crazy.
When I think of infinites I remember the dark times before blood lust and needing to run at a window to fast vault was even a thing entity never blocked anything it was annoying af.
The one other thing I remember as killer that really REALLY pist me off was flashlights could instant blind even from stupid ass angles no thinking needed just be near my face.
There is still an infinite in dbd Tru3 but only on one specific RNG version of one map and you need one specific perk to use it.
Yes I'm talking haddonfield with balanced and the version of haddonfield that has the basement window open. If you get that very specific map and the killer isn't trapper or nurse they'll never catch you no matter how much bloodlust they get even level 3 can't catch someone there because there's 4 windows to vault and 2 ultra safe loops on either side of the house to use should you need to.
Yeah the blue house with the god window at the top of basement stairs. I have ran that a couple times to see but I felt so bad after a while I let them hook me XD
You only need the upstairs windows actually, the one outside the basement steps isnt needed to infinite, just keep forcing the killer to vault the Windows. If all 3 windows are open then it's impossible for the entity to block it with how long you can make it last by switching between each window.
And thats only to get 1 window blocked lol
@@mylife1221 an infinite is an infinite against any killer, if they have that much distance on huntress when that starts then the player can mindgame her direction. The survivor wont be able to see enough to make sure she is just following so no thats 2 reasons its not an infinite. Its still ridiculous but not an infinite.

Now I know why survivors revolt at any little nerf. They're so used to not having to try, that any nerf is an affront to them. Since I know from personal experience that they thought this was fine.
Shoutout to how hag traps took the same amount of timers set as trapper traps
Absolutely crazy that this is what the game used to be like😳
It's simple. Without Killers the game doesn't exist. They realized that and gave them everything, because they game would literally die. No killers. No game.
My idea for gens to be slowed down so not everyone has to run ruin: when the killer kicks the gens, survivors can’t just tap the gens to stop it from regressing, (similar to demo portal skill checks) survivors have to preform skill checks to stop the gens from regressing and once they complete that, they can continue working on the gens like normal. This would be able to slow down gen rushing overall.
OR
Give killers a default pop goes the weasel so that kicking the gens make it regress by 5%. This would be giving killers the ability to affect a generator mid-chase enough to make the tap a harmful play overall, and giving the game more mechanical depth on the survivors’ end in order to avoid the gen-rush, and make the objective actually engaging to do.
Do you comment this on every video?
That first idea is literally Overcharge. The devs don't like messing with gens themselves so they put in perks that fix the problems instead. Just like how people complained about windows so they made bamboozled. They "fix" issues with perks.
IamKindness yup, made some additions to it tho
Marlon Rodriguez now tell me who tf runs overcharge on their builds?😭 people sometimes still tap if there’s overcharge. Also it’s similar but not the same thing which is why I mentioned the demo portal skill check mechanic. It could be like that, can be several skill checks not just one like overcharge.
Also they don’t always just add perks to fix issues. As you can clearly see, things like vault speed and windows were directly nerfed. There’s slow vaults and fast vaults now and having a good set of window is down to rng. A lot of good windows are usually boarded up. Have to get pretty lucky to get loops that under certain circumstances can be looped for a verrrrrrrrry long time.
I remember this. However, playing survivor back then was different because everybody thought this is a scary horror game where you have to play stealth. It took some time for survivors to figure out it's actually a jump and run game and I think even the devs were not aware that it was :-D
Killers used to be able to get survivors because they werent as good before, luckily
the grass back then in 2016 was tall as heck and survivor crouches damn low, all the claudettes were more invisible than now
I would argue that with balanced landing and haddonfield is still an infinite loop
I agree
Honestly, such a good time looking back. Playing that with your friends was always fun. Now people get pissed off really easily in games and what not but back then, it was just fucking fun (cant speak for killers on that, they probably would disagree)
I would say, as a killer main, that playing small amounts at low ranks (12 - 20) was all I could manage. Play a game or two a day, get to the green rank, then quit for the month. If insta-flashlights, keys, or BNP's started sneaking into matches, I'd call it even earlier. Purple and red ranks were especially cancerous, ending almost instantly with very little in the way of getting any kills, let alone a 4K. That is, unless the survivors were boosted and relied on breaking hooks/insta-flashlights/unnerfed borrowed time. The toxic idiots were annoying, but beatable. The skilled swfs, though... they practically give me PTSD today even though they aren't nearly as strong. Four BNP's or 3 BNP's + key = a bad time.
Anyway, TLDR; the balance issues made playing killer... not fun.
On the other hand, 1 hr + loading times to find a lobby at high ranks as survivor because no one played killer, and then after finding a match the killer would either DC or be that one, solitary Leatherface/Trapper/Hillbilly with horrendous ping that would slaughter by using the lag to their advantage and then camping. Or it'd be a wraith that just played with their bell in the corner, racking in points, because that was the best strat for BP/ranking up as killer.
As a killer main, I don't miss those days. At all.
and survivors still complain when killer gets buff, bro, you guys were impossible to catch back then.
(i only started to play after the pig was added so i'm happy for not going through this and sorry for those who had to)
Wow im playing since day 1 and seeing this makes me happy
More like a *loop* in time!
Okay i'll *head on* out of here..
Thankfully I never had it this bad but as someone who started playing around the Halloween chapter, this video is giving me flashbacks to vacuum pallets, no window blocks and no bloodlust.
Should’ve called it a “loop back in time”
Take me back to these fast vault days I’m tired of getting hit 5 ft away from a window lol
forreal
Remember when there was no gen regression, and survivors could 99% 5 gens, and set them all off in a row?
To this day there are a lot of things Dbd has to fix, hit boxes, some bad map designs that favor either the survivors or the killers. But we must agree that Dbd has changed a lot for the better throughout the years.
ah the time when Killer actually required some skill Kappa
seriously i'm glad i started the game 1 year ago and didnt have to deal with this
I remember how hooks didn't respawn and you be left with only basement hooks. Those were dark times
Then the devs thought really this is oke?
No. Why do you think the game isn't like this anymore?
yes they did
this is the clip from them talking about these infinite jukes.
clips.twitch.tv/CoweringImpossibleSwordTheThing
@@uutcm They did think this was okay, they still think lots of broken things with survivor are okay even today. Nothing's changed with them. They make changes when things start to hurt their game.
@@komp357 omg thanks men for this
Omg this team is just stupid.
my friend got me into the game sometime during Halloween 2017, so I almost completely missed out on the so-called “golden days” of DBD.
Yea with addition of Myers game started to go uphill, if you ignore how OP was DS back then
The game is shit in its current state, what with the current survivor meta, camping, and overall toxicity, but at least its playable. Im genuinely amazed how the game took off kn this state, cuz that looks unplayable.
God, the good old days. You know, I don't want a game to be easy. Anytime I play something, I always, ALWAYS, play it on the hardest difficulty available straight out of the box. I don't want a free or easy win. I want to EARN my victories. It forces me to become better and adapt to the situation I'm in and each victory becomes a true achievement in my book. But it's still fun to look back on what this game used to be. Quite entertaining, if I'm being honest.
And for no reason at all, I'll leave each reader of this comment with a little something that always makes me smile.
Another thing that got forgotten was the fact that against all probability a sperm whale had suddenly been called into existence several miles above the surface of an alien planet.
And since this is not a naturally tenable position for a whale, this poor innocent creature had very little time to come to terms with its identity as a whale before it then had to come to terms with not being a whale any more.
This is a complete record of its thoughts from the moment itbegan its life till the moment it ended it.
Ah ... ! What's happening? it thought.
Er, excuse me, who am I?
Hello? Why am I here? What's my purpose in life?
What do I mean by who am I?
Calm down, get a grip now ... oh! this is an interesting sensation, what is it? It's a sort of ... yawning, tingling sensation in my ... my ... well I suppose I'd better start finding names for things if I want to make any headway in what for the sake of what I shall call an argument I shall call the world, so let's call it my stomach.
Good. Ooooh, it's getting quite strong. And hey, what's about this whistling roaring sound going past what I'm suddenly going to call my head? Perhaps I can call that ... wind! Is that a good name? It'll do ... perhaps I can find a better name for it later when I've found out what it's for. It must be something very important because there certainly seems to be a hell of a lot of it. Hey! What's this thing? This ... let's call it a tail - yeah, tail. Hey! I can can really thrash it about pretty good can't I? Wow! Wow! That feels great! Doesn't seem to achieve very much but I'llprobably find out what it's for later on. Now - have I built up any coherent picture of things yet?
No. Never mind, hey, this is really exciting, so much to find out about, so much to look forward to, I'm quite dizzy with anticipation ... Or is it the wind?
There really is a lot of that now isn't it?
And wow! Hey! What's this thing suddenly coming towards me very fast? Very very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like ... ow ... ound ... round ... ground! That's it! That's a good name - ground!
I wonder if it will be friends with me?
And the rest, after a sudden wet thud, was silence.
Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was Oh no, not again. Many people have speculated that if we knew exactly why the bowl of petunias had thought that we would know a lot more about the nature of the universe than we do now.
Omitting several important things here makes it biased. Most importantly, this is beta footage, as killer shack was not like that at launch.
1. Permanent NOED - There was no counterplay against NOED.
2. Instant Mori - Mori survivors on 1st down without needing to hook.
3. Machinegun hits - No successful attack cooldown with the right perk, made worse by the fact that survivors didn't get a speedboost from being hit, this meant 2 second long chases.
4. Blocking hook prompt - If you camped or put down a trap, the survivor was not unhookable and would die on 1st hook.
5. Immersed survivors - Looping and genrushing had not spread among survivor playerbase for the first few months after launch. Survivors were almost entirely immersives that would hide in grass most of the game, whereas this thing is less common in the current meta. This is why Tru3 kept saying Wraith was better than Trapper and Hillbilly.
Judging by that footage I'm actually very surprised that anyone would ever consider playing killer back then. This is just plain suicide.
To be fair, you had to have so much skill to pull off anything resembling an infinite (tm)
what?
@@MoonShroomMan you ain't got a brain? OP said that back in the days you had to be better than average to end an 'infinite' chase. (tm) = trapper main, I presume
WOW. I know this is an old video, but wowzers. I totally remember DBD like this - crazy how devs used to think that this was completely "fair" and that the killer even had a chance in hell of, not even downing, but even just M1ing a survivor.
I still have horrifying flashbacks the time d strike could be used anytime didnt have to wiggle or be the obession
Jesus she vaults fast. I'm happy that they vault slower now, more exciting for both sides. If I would infinite loop the killer every match how could I have fun? Now I actually have to think about my moves when getting chased by the killer
Also when items had only 1 rarity so no dull key etc.
When people called flashlights at start on forums "useless"
When nurse got released in 2016 septrmber yet everyone thinks she was part of the game at start.
When bnp was instant
When NOED lasted forever after exit gates opened, no hex.
Then later it had a 2 min duration
Then it became a hex
Going back to this really make your think, this game has come so far we’re on its 4th year anniversary now it’s insane
CRAZY! this is only my 3rd season in dbd, seeing this BLOWS my mind!!!
I joined the game in Sept 2017 when the Leatherface dlc was released. That was the perfect time to join the game, even then I still waited a year for Killer to be decently balanced
On par with good survivors
This was only 3 years ago too. It's insane to think that this game somehow managed to survive that first 2 years with how insanely one-sided it was most of the time.
Life has been hectic lately, I miss taking the time to watch your videos ♥
