Depuis 500 ans, perchés au sommet des beffrois qui dominent les villes du Nord de la France, les carillons chantent. De Hondscott à Douai, le métier de carillonneur est un métier ancestral. Nous avons rencontré Stefano Colletti, carillonneur de la ville de Douai.

20'' Northern Chimes
30' -> 40': sinc 500 years, the "carillon" bells in the "flat Land" (french expression for Beliumm and North of France, departement 59: Nord). they are fixe at the top of the "Beffroi" (Belfry: this isn't church, this is civil bulding).
It's an very old job. At Hondschotte, little town in the north Alfred don't leave his since 30y. (actually, it's not a job, it's a hobby)
"It's a privilege to climb this stairs, this tower, not allowed to the public". Alfred have 76 y old, so he needs passion and patience to get in the top of the tower built in 1513 "this is a come back to middle age" to make rings the bells Alfred works heart out;
It's true that the energy is mine... and there is some waste. It is an history ansd we are part of the tradition. The sound of bells already rings during his youth: "I was fascinating when I was young. Sometime, you can't identify wher is from, because it reverbs and the houses, and I want to become the ghost which make work this instruments." Decade after he's still pationate, and unless the staris won't be defeted, he will continue "some of my firend have to give up because of there knees (discussion abour Alfred knees and conclusion about Hondschotte)
100 km away, at Douai, the Carinolleur "is a professionnal since 1391, [stephane] i'm the 35rd since the beginning. currently this is the automatic device which ring." At douai every saturday non stephane play and have to clim all the staairs. The biggest bells is 5 tons. that whay stephane play whit is handfull to make sure to ring all the bells, including the heaviest!
