      8:38 "Now the work starts." Presumably, he intends to eat it. Hunting has been a key element in the conservation of game. People that don't hunt think they're less responsible for slaughtering animals because the meat is already packaged up when they arrive at the grocery store. This hunter carefully selected his target, waited for an ethical shot, then hit it with enough bullet to put it down as quickly as possible. That's as clean as it gets. It's completely normal to admire nature while you're hunting. Most hunters are outdoors because they really appreciate nature.

    For those wondering why the 50 didn't kill it instantly, 2 reasons, A: 50 bmg rounds are fmj's, they are designed for anti-material penertration, not causing visceral damage to flesh, 95% of it's energy probably went straight through it. And B: never underestimate how resilient animals are, I've seen kangaroos casually bounce off with their hearts having been completely removed by a .270 designed for expansion, only to then drop dead 50 metres away once they finally realise that their mid section is missing.

    I live in the Texas hill country and see this all the time. To act like this is hunting and to use a 50bmg is just a dick measuring competition. I’d love to shoot a nilgai but it’s not hunting just harvesting. For the meat it’s not a bad deal but still costly. All these people come here from other states thinking they are hunting but it’s just a farm with animals you can shoot. If you have money to waste more power to you. Not in this case but just some insider info, most of the animals are bought specifically for your “hunt” and are let out several weeks before for you to shoot. This is why hunting gets a bad rap. Do whatever you want but don’t do stupid stuff and put it out for the world to see.

  • @jesse5167
    @jesse5167 Год назад +5

    For those wondering why the Nilgai didn't drop, here is my understanding of the terminal ballistics... the two common ways a gunshot kills are decreased oxygen supply to the brain or destruction of the nervous system.
    If you hit an animal in the upper spine or the head with an appropriate cartridge/range for the species, it will die immediately. I'm not entirely sure where the line is drawn but if you either hit with a weaker projectile (broadhead of an arrow) or you hit further back along the spine it may cause local paralysis for the animal.
    If you hit the animal in the lungs or the heart, the blood supply to the brain will either stop or will no longer contain oxygen, causing loss of consciousness and death (what happened here). If you miss the lungs/heart but pierce the chest cavity, tension pneumothorax will occur (Google it). The time this takes to kill an animal varies based on the species, what organ(s) were hit, and what the animals adrenaline is like at the time of impact.
    Bullet energy matters for when you hit the spine or the shoulder. A high energy impact to the shoulder can both cripple an animal and mortally wound it. A bullet with lower energy could potentially only cripple the animal. What matters for heart/lung shots is penetration and diameter. How much tissue does the bullet penetrate through and what is the diameter when it does. This all only describes very conventional terminal ballistics. If we look at something like 22-250 (or 5.56 for that matter), a very light bullet travelling at un-Godly speeds can fragment and yaw upon impact, causing more damage than would be expected.

      @Simbor Nabor Murderers? in almost all religious text, including the bible, the killing and eating of animals is totally ok as it has been our source of food for AGES. Hunting and killing totally ok as long as the animal is killed with a clean shot, The animal is cleaned, and eaten. It is also ok if the ecosystem of the animal and the area is in good shape. For example, shooting a rare animal is looked down upon, but shooting deer in thriving communities is totally fine as it provides balance. Energy is transfered, one ecosystem to another and balanced.

It's my guess that the bullet went out the other side with virtually no expansion so didn't transfer energy the way we would like. My minuscule .308 has had more impressive "HIT LIKE A TRUCK" results! I was expecting a shock and awe moment! I'm wondering if that 750 grain beast of a round was designed to expand and deliver its energy rather than penetrate heavy armor.

      You simply don't understand how FMJ's work when they have that much power behind them. They do not expand when passing through flesh... It cut a path through and out of that animal like a hot knife through butter... The animal took some time to realize the damage done. Like a chicken running around after having it's head removed... It's Science.

    I gotta say I wouldn’t have never thought that thing would make it even that far after being hammered with that round.

    Very tactical, he used its shoulder bone to blast into fragments to take the mighty neilgu down.

    I guess I don't get it. Is the goal to see how big of a gun you can't hunt with? An unsuspecting critter at moderate range...what happened here that wouldn't have happened with an 8 pound .30/'06, other than lighting a $10 bill on fire when you pulled the trigger?

      He used a Hornady match bullet which is absolutely not designed for hunting and cost about $8 each. It likely went right through the animal. I think it's fucked up how they're praising the beauty of the animal after just experimenting with a BS setup that caused the animal a fuk ton of pain for a good minute or more before succumbing to that shot. A regular gun with good hunting ammo would have ethically dropped the animal on the spot without torturing it...
