His mind is totally unlocked and he's just so creative in his approach to rhythm and dynamics. Love how relaxed he is and you can see and feel his love for his instrument.
This is drumming at it's highest level. I played for over 40 years. and only was able to reach 1/10th his skill. Drummers like this have been given a gift reserved for a certain few. I believe it's God given. To have his abilities behind a drum kit is truly rare. Perfection in timing, dynamics, phrasing while making drums musical is mind blowing.
This man combines the finesse and precision of Dave Weckl and Simon Phillips with the power of someone like Neil Peart. I've become such a huge fan of Todd, incredible taste and musicianship!
Forget the chops, the speed and technique... all of that can be developed over time. The really impressive thing about drummers at this level is the TIME. Totally on the nail, precise ALL the time. For young drummers, this is what you need to concentrate on most. Even when practicing chops, have a click on, record yourself and listen back. When you can bury the click consistently in all styles, at all speeds, especially at slow tempo, then you’re a real drummer! After 27 years working on my personal craft, it always comes down to groove, accuracy and time.
I think the Comment by Jeff Porcaro Groove nails my overall view of this fantastic drummer. Todd is the most musical drummer I have ever heard. Mitch Mitchell of Jimi Hendrix had this gift too. As I have mentioned in two of my other Comments here, I spent 26 weeks, along with 200-300 other people worldwide, with Todd in an online course on Drumeo on rock drumming. Todd's musicality on our instrument came out time and again. He can make a 1 and 3 on the bass drum and 2 and 4 on the snare with 8th notes on hats or ride cymbal sound musical. If the Drumeo course is offered again consider taking it. I will for a second time. You have a lifetime of drumming in the 26 weeks.
I watched this through twice and was sure I could duplicate what Todd does here. After a little practice, I was FINALLY able to grab a towel and throw it over my shoulder, like Todd does @ 11:04. A camera malfunction prevented video proof of the accomplishment, but the satisfaction is there. Now if I could just do ANYTHING he does ON the drums..
So, the bottom of the (6.5”) snare at the top of his thighs. Does this mean he has short upper arms, or it facilitates trad grip? Notice most of his arm movement is forearm out to wrist, the upper arm conserving energy and mostly for stroke positioning (out to toms and back), very efficient technique.
he does everything the correct way! easily one of the best all-around drummers on the planet...he gets musical phrasing...i love Virgil but he does not phrase in a musical way that is commercial...i dont hear Todd's practice routine in his playing like i do with Donati...Todd can play a Bad Co gig, fly to do a Dream Theater gig, then a Coke jingle commercial gig, then a country gig for Taylor Swift, then fill in for Alex Van Halen, then...get the idea here?
se va haciendo mayor y ya no s tan energico como antes ni tiene la misma pegada, va bajando d altura los platos y poniendo las chinas como los crashes pero sigue siendo buenisimo, l diablo sabe mas x viejo....cada vez s mas musical...
The second song that comes in is dead on by such a great drummer. So is the rest. The Latin number was good but I don’t personally think his style. Just my humble opinion. It’s like asking weckl to play rock. That’s not his style. Not that he can’t play it. But the fusion is what he’s known for. But all this is really good. And no I don’t play except on a little rubber pad. So I’m learning.
Actually almost none of what he does is "usual". Taking an online course with him now. Many six stroke rolls creatively applied, three note connectors everywhere leading to a lot of six and nine note things. What sounds usual is not. This is why he is one of the very best now playing in my view.

They don't get better than this man.

Tim TPDRUMS yes good advice! Preach on my friend!
Can't argue with this
After 32 years myself, I stress to the drumming world this exact importance behind the kit.Well said
Very true! This is why I like Charlie Watts so much. Nothing flashy about him but he is always in the groove.
Difficult to be precise all the time without a good technique
Love Todd!!!😎👍
Great drummer...Great guy!!!
His timing precision is the definition of perfection.
Totally in control. A master of his craft.
Masterfully done!! Todd is amazing.

Tremendo batero! Que lujo escucharlo!
Todd could have drummed for any band. The Stones, Zeppelin or Rush. He fits in with everyone.
Master!!! Además la mezcla de la batería es perfecta!
Impresionante y maravilloso con las guitarras españolas pedazo de bateria.
Awesome playing and musicianship! And good are those drums? #mom’sapplepie 🤩

Amazing drummer.
You can't spell "flawless" without "Todd Sucherman."
He would be great in dream theatre
Hey, “tttarms1970” , I was thinking the same thing. He’s much closer to having a Portnoy approach than others. And a joy to watch.
For sure...and even more amazing in Rush!
@@ShakingTwoTrees2012 - You know, you're right! Never thought of that before but he would be great playing Rush music. He would fit right in.
No one can play DT smoothly, only portnoy and Mangini that kinds of level......
@@shihchen168 - Mangini is world class but there are LOTS of guys who can play DT's music, even better than Portnoy.
Wow! Nailed 100%
the master jedi of drumming, told him in person at Ralph Angelino international drumfest in quebec city, such a humble guy.
Yes!
MY boy, 'representing' TEXAS !!!!
Лучший!!!
Fantastic!!!!
Excelente drumers

Buddy played that way..
He likes it that far up. I am taking a superb online course with him (and 200 other folks) on Drumeo. One of the first things he covered.
amazing!!!!!!
Now THAT… is how a snare should sound. Take note.
Great stuff Todd! Hey, on that particular kit, was your “high mounted bass drum” as large as your regular bass drum?

cuando va a estar completo?
Nunca, desgraciadamente Todd no permite que subamos el video completo.
lamentable... gracias por la respuesta!
Que rata!! Gracias igual!!
Would like to know what the holy hi hat setup is on his right.
It's a pretty normal stack, or in other words a pair or maybe a whole group of cymbals mounted together, making one unique sound
Song name with amazing nylon guitar please?
"Latina" by Tzan Niko. The record will be (hopefully) coming out later this year.
Todd Sucherman Can't wait to buy the record!
Fantastic, and is the song you played first at drum will be include too? It's one of my favorite!!

37" Ride lol
The best snare recorded
"FANTASTIC" "But not enough "Cowbell"
If they get better than this, then I've never seen it....period
This could be played in a Sonic - The Hedgehog game... Maybe some underwater stage.
Pearl masters maple complete
Sounds like Yngwie Malmsteen on classical guitar!😁👍

eso quiere decir que está en constante evolución y cambio...

Lui è grandioso..anche se il pezzo suonato è un po' da ruffiani, è un po' come suonare " o' sole mio" al Napoli drum fest
may be not the most original and creative drummer but a hard as steel technique, perfectly executed and a hell of a left hand!
He is extremely creative… what are talking about???
