He has actually addressed this bc multiple people have expressed how impressive they find this! Its mostly just years of practice, but he has listened to so many hours of music that he can very rapidly pick up on the timing of the music & hints that theres gonna be a drop or something of any kind. He's also playing relatively simple notes (not an insult, just saying he can't do complex things with songs he's never heard) so its less risky and less likely to fall off beat!! Still impressive as heck, but I thought I'd share his explanation in my own words as a long-time watcher. 🤗

I mean I don’t know if you seen that meme mashing up rap god with SpongeBob music but that SpongeBob music sounded good with the rhythm of Eminem’s fast rapping and it’s almost no different with the 8 bit drummer.
My main practice has been improv drumming. I don't do much studio work so I mainly try to figure things out of the fly. After a long while, you start to pick up little things like when the song is going to rise and fall, possibly even cut out completely. It just takes time! :D
