It's crazy how the price for these have jumped. I just purchased one and it cost $1200 now. Other similar speakers from LD have also jumped in price as well. I do love the J8 though. I'll be getting a second one real soon.
Great review I seen the Rick Web video and everyone is entitled to their opinion and position on any issue. I felt like if the companies put these speakers out for sale they had a particular market and design use for this setup. You hit it dead on the head because Rick was trying to make these array speakers his main go to Gig setup for Cost and portability and it smacked him in the face when facing a large venue and crowd. I'm not bashing Rick but sometimes we jump to quick for equipment to be the first out the box and I been in this game over 30 years and the same companies exist then and now so they have not got this far by not having a great R&D program. Again another great vlog love the passion and delivery what all DJ's should come with first!!💯
Nice timing with this video. Lol. Agree with all the points especially the height of the array and positioning. I think I am gonna go with the 8(s) though for my smaller weddings.
Bro you have No idea! When i saw the title of your video i was like WTF! Might at well make them think we planned it lol! I picked these up Black Friday for a steal. Wanted to get them out a few times before reviewing because like you I wasn’t sold in the column array design and love my big ole 15’s on a stick.
They must have been on sale, cause y'all keep saying they cost around $800......try $999 new. I did get my first one on sale for $849. but i guess i have to wait for a sale to run for my 2nd one
Thanks for the video. I have the EV 50's and love them (other than the price tag). I found that not having the ability to rise and turn the tops makes them hard to use for karaoke bar gigs (singers stand in front and use them as monitor and wonder why they keep getting feedback). If I had to do it over I would go with the RCF instead, having the option to raise and turn would be great. I just started using a pair of QSC K8 and use the evolve subs (off my booth) when I break from singers and doing a dance set. I wish EV would give you the option to purchase a taller "stick".
I think your video put me over the edge, gonna get a white j8 and one Jmix for 2020. And yes, I would think 150 adult guests would be the limit on these.
Thank you so much for this video, it is very helpful. I am still debating on the evolve 50's or the J8. Are you still pretty happy with these a year later? Are you glad you got the white instead of black?
Very happy. I do think while the white looks amazing it is limiting and tough to keep clean. Black would fit just about any event while the white can look a little out of place sometimes
Hey bro, i've been thinking about getting the Jmix8 for small gigs but don't want to compromise on stereo sound... so does one Jmix8 and one J8 sound like the way to go?
What is the benefit for a jmix8 and a j8? Can you link them together and modify the eq settings on both that way? Or does it just give you the ability to use Bluetooth?
I have 4 of the EV50's in white and two of the JBL ENO Pro and I love them all. Im 6'1" and my EV50's top is over my head so they work great for me just like I'm sure your EVOX 8 are great for you. The JBL ENO are only for ceremonies and cocktail hours there's no way I would try using them for reception party but I do love them. I do love the EV50's looks (no cables)and sound over the Evox8 when turned up but that's my opinion. Great video and good column Array don't suck not sure what was going on with DJ Rick
I love my JBL eon one pro for ceremony. It’s made my life so much easier. If i wasn’t already an RCF fan boy and these wouldn’t have been so much cheaper than the Evolves I probably would have gone that route too. Rick was definitely not saying all column arrays suck. He was just saying there is a time and a place for them.
Well of course column array systems don't suck lol. Glad you put a positive spin on it and not a negative one like someone else did... not gonna mention any names hahaha.
Great job on the review. I am trying to decide between the J8 and Bose F1 pro 8. I will only use this in an environment of about a 1000 sq. ft mostly for karaoke and music. Can I use the J8 alone (not JMIX8) with a Yamaha mixer (MG10XU)? Do you have an opinion on the J8 vs the F1 pro 8 as far as sound goes? THanx!
Mine were supposed to be delivered yesterday! All I got were the cases! Ugh. White is sharp, but I got the black. Maybe in 2020 I’ll buy white for that write off! Can’t wait
Looking for mainly ceremony/cocktail speaker. Turn between the Jmix 8 and the Eon one Pro. Love the battery powered option of the JBL but debating what would be the best option. Which do you think is best option to go with?
Yo Logan ... have evolve 50s and love em for what I do 90% of time .. I supplement sound with Yamaha dxr 10s ... definitely like having multiple options for events
Definitely think the evolves are fantastic speakers. I’m just and RCF fanboy and the minor advantages I mentioned including price were enough to sway me to the J8’s.
me to I just have one evolve 50 got it Black Friday sale at 1200 but its easy at my gigs 5 minutes or less to set up and plus bluetooth quick to start my dinner playlist of my iPhone while im finishing my light show rig have been doing 75-200 people wedding halls and no one has complained in fact they have compliment on the clean look and power loud sound bass of one ev 50 line array ! No need to buy another one until maybe another great sale at guitar center
Now I know that this video was posted about a year ago, and in it you state that the J8 sells for $800. I’d like to know where or send me a link to where I can buy them for $800. B’cuz everywhere I look they’re selling for $1000. And the Evox 8 is selling for $1700, not $1000 like you state in the video. So if you know where I can purchase these at the price you said, please send me a link. I would definitely appreciate it. Thank you.
Hello Sir, this is the first time that I have been on your channel. I will say that your content is far more accurate than others. Good Job! I would like to add a point or two. I have a pair of Turbosound IP1000's. I chose TS because of my experience with installed sound in big arenas and being familiar with their products. I also use a pair of Behringer (I know - gulp) 12" subs too. I sit the IP1000's on top of each sub and once I have set the sound for the room, the experience is quite pleasant. I have used this setup with success and groups just over 400 people. I am more of a proponent of how it is used vs what is being used. You can have the best gear money can buy, be a sound idiot, and the experience will not be pleasant. Conversely, you can use gear that is perceived to be inferior (Behringer 12" subs") and if the sound man has a clue, you can do more with less. Most people today do not have a clue when it comes to sound. And these folks need active set ups, with built in DSP, because their skill is subpar. Nothing wrong with that, nothing at all. They just should NOT be handing out sound advice making blanket statements like "column arrays suck". Great channel! Well done sir!
Thank you for the comment Jay! I apparently you taking the time to write suck a detailed response. I couldn’t agree more that equipment isn’t everything and that you can get great sound out of lower end equipment and shit sound out of high end gear If you don’t know how to use it. I can a pair of Behringer 15inch tops for years and they blew my my friends 1st gen eons out of the water. From there I moved on to a pair of mackie srm 450s and 2 mackie 1801 subs. Once dialed in that set up was pretty awesome and I ran that for 7-8yrs. I now have the RCF 735 A’s and these new J8’s. I would like to add at least 1 RCF 8004 sub to the collection as well. I think pairing that with the j8’s would make one hell of a wedding rig. I hope you subscribed and keep the comments coming my friend!
@@DJLoStax I grew up just south of A^2. I DJ'ed all over Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. Did my first gig in December of 1980. I was the sound engineer for FOH on EMU's campus and worked at U of M when acts would come into Chrysler Arena. While running sound for bands is how I learned about "sound", applying that to DJ'ing really helps. Now that I live in North Carolina, I stay just busy enough, but I am about to ramp up the DJ side of things because North Carolina needs talent. Loads and Loads of self promoters here, but no real talent. Maybe one day I will start a RUclips channel too. LOL Seriously. Great Job.
i got these and love it ....i am trying to buy 2 more ....just look better and easy for gigs in and out super fast and nto sure why ppl still use old speakers on tripod legs and looks so bad
One thing I never hear highlighted about column arrays is the lower crossover point between the tops and bottoms. The lower crossover point keeps the vocals in the tops and out of the bottoms - which for live sound is ideal. I have the JMIX8’s fwiw.
Kol Havaiia you can go with one JMIX8 and one J8 for Stereo. I use two JMIX8’s just so I have the flexibility to use them separately if and when needed
Kol Havaiia - it depends. For a small act like a solo or duo performance - stereo not needed. If you have a performance with a keyboard - which would typically be mixed in stereo, then yes having 2 would be better. For a DJ it’s always best to have two in stereo as all the material is recorded in stereo and this would allow the speakers to reproduce the material as recorded.
Probably a slight step up but more so just a different level. The sound out of these is more contained to the dancefloor so you get more bass kinda right there in front of you where a speaker in a cabinet on a stand will throw the sound farther. Hope that makes sense.
what would u say for a column against a traditional 2 way ? does this act more like a speaker and a subwoofer or would a 2 way 12" or 15" have the same amount of bass ? price wise they are in the same range as ETX 15p , QSC KW122 , JBL PRX815w and others , looking for outdoor moves but it will be under my balcony a bit so it will have some sound reinforcement
Hey there Mr. LoStax. I heard you say 76~150 people, these would be great. I was wondering, is that the most you would try, or do you think they could do more. I have harbinger mls900s right now and I can't decide if it is worth upgrading. I got a great deal on the harbingers last year($600 for 2 at musicians friend). Now I see these and wonder if I should pull the trigger.
@@DJLoStax thanks for getting back so fast. Hope you are well(with this covid going around) . One more question...if I add a 15" ekx sub to these, do you think that would cover that gap between 150~200? I have QSC k12.2 over EV EKX subs for larger events, and also EKX 15" tops. So I have most events for me covered. I was just trying to find easier, faster setups than what I already have. I love your booth!
@@DJLoStax after long deliberations with myself and my bank account, I finally pulled the trigger on a pair of j8s. I found a good deal with idjnow. Thanks for your input. Helped me a lot.
Well this was 2 years ago so the price on a lot of gear has gone way up. If you can find these for $1000 now you’re doing good. Most places can’t keep them in stock because they are imported.
basically this is not a column array design because a true column array like on JBL eon one MK1 or 2, you don't need to rotate the tower, it has a 360 coverage
I did one a few months back when i first got mine. It’s more of an unboxing than a review. Overall I love them. They are loud as hell and sound quality is just amazing at all volumes.
listening to Rick Web's review.. he did not speak bad about the RCF nor the Evolve.. Guessing that someone who has the JBL Pro and the BOSE should make an honest review about them... Or do like BARR in a video I saw... have a side by side comparison.
Ben Stowe from NLFX did side by side and he likes the evolves better. To my ear they both sound about the same. Also glad you watched Ricks video to the end. I’m thinking a lot of people didn’t.
Small, expensive, plastic speakers that cannot handle any type of gig? The acoustics of passive system, wooden enclosures are great for any event. They last longer because they have less parts that could fail.
They don't suck, they're ok for vocals and convivial surroundings but if you want deep growling vocals and the punch and buzz you expect on a dancefloor they just dont have it im afraid...it's the same issue we all have when we have a large, flat TV.. the speakers aren't enough...so you buy a soundbar. The only good thing is the weight and ease ...but if you want a real sound get some heavier but better gear.
I'm hoping he will so Rick can be corrected by many people with Arrays, Rick is wrong on this one just like he was wrong on façade and many other things.
@@DJRickWeb Yeah I saw the entire video, you titled the video not me. Rick you're a great young DJ but I think sometimes you post things to get rise once in a while and that's cool. But when you say something sucks and then want to dance on the fence about it I'll tell you what I thing. You ask the question. Yes these Line Arrays won't do huge proms or huge bass needed parties. But like you I own Many Many systems I would guest a few more then you do as I do pro sound for bands too but I do over 120 weddings every year. My point is for most weddings EVOX and the EV50's are great at weddings, they look great and for many DJ's as a big selling point. LOL we all love our bass and you ain't the only out here who LOVES bringing the heat to the dancefloor. I grew up DJ'n in NJ, NY, Denver and in Baltimore night clubs for over 30+ years so I know the game. Keep up the great work DJ Rick
I’ve never heard the 715’s I have the 735’s. They are louder than the j8’s for sure but I like the look of the j8’s and they handle 100-150 people no problem
Without adding subs I wouldn’t put any speaker up against 200 plus people. That being said I would rate these good for 150-200 at most without adding subs.
Some nice features and love the white I use the Ev 50 and love it. Glad to see folks sharing opinions but I think the young man that stated that these kind of speakers “suck” is simply looking for attention. He has a huge following and appears very knowledgeable but tends to “stir the pot”. I guess this is his style.
Oh for sure. Rick knows his stuff. That was just a click bait title to get people to watch. It’s marketing 101 for youtube titles. Lots of other people out there making videos so you gotta do something to stand out.
This video is about Array Speakers and why they Dont Suck.

B’cuz everywhere I look they’re selling for $1000. And the Evox 8 is selling for $1700, not $1000 like you state in the video. So if you know where I can purchase these at the price you said, please send me a link. I would definitely appreciate it. Thank you.
Price has gone up over the years, unfortunately. Wish it was still the pricing that he got here
I would like to buy a speaker, I am going to use it for an acoustic guitar and voice duo, what do you recommend? RCF ebox 8 or Bose L1pro16?
Is the white color sexier than black?
dude.!! what was the size on the tukie covers??
Do you think is a good beginner step up ..can I do more then 100 people wedding ...I come from mackie thump. ..
Will this set sup sound better then two mackie thumps 15 ...that’s what I have current
Great Job.
i got these and love it ....i am trying to buy 2 more ....just look better and easy for gigs in and out super fast and nto sure why ppl still use old speakers on tripod legs and looks so bad
only thing that sucks is i dont like how you spend 1000$ on the speaker and you dont get the cover bag.....the bags are like 300$ alone not cool
Order covers from tukicovers.com they are about half price and probably better quality.

thinking of ordering those cuz they still have wheels and i think should fit the j8
what your thoughts on adding an additional 15” sub for this setup? worth it? thank you
Yes worth it. For larger events I run these as my mains and I bring two JBL prx 818’s
One thing I never hear highlighted about column arrays is the lower crossover point between the tops and bottoms. The lower crossover point keeps the vocals in the tops and out of the bottoms - which for live sound is ideal. I have the JMIX8’s fwiw.
Are you happy with Jmix8? I need stereo sound so one Jmix8 and one J8???
Kol Havaiia you can go with one JMIX8 and one J8 for Stereo. I use two JMIX8’s just so I have the flexibility to use them separately if and when needed
@@hibbasc1 that makes sense. one more question... is gigging with just one unit enjoyable/professional or will the lack of stereo be a major bummer?
Kol Havaiia - it depends. For a small act like a solo or duo performance - stereo not needed. If you have a performance with a keyboard - which would typically be mixed in stereo, then yes having 2 would be better. For a DJ it’s always best to have two in stereo as all the material is recorded in stereo and this would allow the speakers to reproduce the material as recorded.
Great review !
Any thoughts about the evox12?
I haven’t personally heard them but I know people who run them and I’m sure they blow the j8’s out of the water.
Hey bro-just picked one of these up!! You put on bass boost during your events? Thanks and be well!
I usually keep it off until opening dancing. Depending on the room and it can be a little too much bass during cocktail and dinner
@@DJLoStax sick thanks for the reply. I asked because the owners Manuel says to only put it on for low background music! 😆
Can I hook up an external mixer to this to run a mic?
Would these be a step up from a pair of K12s?
Good q. Wondering the same
Hey there Mr.
I would say 150 is the max without adding subwoofers. I would recommend these to anyone. They will be a big step up from your harbingers.
Yes I think that would do the trick.
@@DJLoStax after long deliberations with myself and my bank account, I finally pulled the trigger on a pair of j8s. I found a good deal with idjnow. Thanks for your input. Helped me a lot.
@@DJLoStax you are right! Just got 2 J8s and I love 💘 them! A big step up from the mls900s. Thank you for this video!
How many people can I do with set up with these
Awesome video bro, compared to the video that Rick Web put out today... his was wacked
But I said I was considering buying the j8 or 8 because its good..... weird contradiction in your comment
Where did you get them for this good price ? Where would you suggest now ?
Well this was 2 years ago so the price on a lot of gear has gone way up. If you can find these for $1000 now you’re doing good. Most places can’t keep them in stock because they are imported.
basically this is not a column array design because a true column array like on JBL eon one MK1 or 2, you don't need to rotate the tower, it has a 360 coverage
Can you please make a review for your rcf 735?
I did one a few months back when i first got mine. It’s more of an unboxing than a review. Overall I love them. They are loud as hell and sound quality is just amazing at all volumes.
Thank you
listening to Rick Web's review.. he did not speak bad about the RCF nor the Evolve..
Hey brotha which tuki cover did you order for your j8.
If you call them they will hook you up. That’s how I got mine.
Great video! I’m Michigan made myself, up in ‘da U.P.
From the UP too. Marquette and Gwinn. Played the Alibi when it was around back in the day.
Small, expensive, plastic speakers that cannot handle any type of gig?
The acoustics of passive system, wooden enclosures are great for any event. They last longer because they have less parts that could fail.
Did you do a post of your rolling booth? Sounds awesome
Yes I did. If you search video dj booth it will come right up on RUclips.
Cool thanks
Do these have more low end than the evolve 50s?
Maybe a little more. The biggest difference I’ve noticed is these are way harder to peak.
excellent review! :)
The only good thing is the weight and ease ...but if you want a real sound get some heavier but better gear.
great content like the breakdown..
Oh man...Rick Webb is gonna put a dis track out on you for disagreeing with his reviews!,
I'm hoping he will so Rick can be corrected by many people with Arrays, Rick is wrong on this one just like he was wrong on façade and many other things.
Wait what? My review said these were good? Did you watch the video?
@@masterpdj2623 I said the j8s were good speakers? Did you watch the video or read the thumbnail?
@@DJRickWeb, only giving you some shit man. Your review was good, and very informative.
Do you also have the jmix8?
Not yet but I do want to order a pair of black ones. 1 jmix and 1 regular
@@DJLoStax witch is better for more sound output pair pair of j8 vs pair of rcf art 715 mk4?
@@DJLoStax I'm considering of getting a j8 and a jmix 8 as a pair. Or a a pair of rcf art 715 mk4
I’ve never heard the 715’s I have the 735’s. They are louder than the j8’s for sure but I like the look of the j8’s and they handle 100-150 people no problem
@@DJLoStax thanks for the infos bro. More power to you and to the channel.
so are the J8's good for 250 or less?
Without adding subs I wouldn’t put any speaker up against 200 plus people. That being said I would rate these good for 150-200 at most without adding subs.
@@DJLoStax cool
Some nice features and love the white
I use the Ev 50 and love it.
DJ LoStax Absolutely
I don’t understand how these went from $800 to $12000 and the evolve 50 remain same Pride RCF price gauging
awesome those speakers are nice and slim
I dont know about your.pricing... but send me a link where i can get evox8 for 1k..
The best i have seen is high $1300 for 1
I have the Evox j8. There is a link in the description
www.idjnow.com/rcf-evox-j8.html this is where i got mine from
Nice succinct review
Meh I prefer original PA speakers
These are consumer, not prosumer gear.
Please elaborate.
I wish these were still $800 a piece..
Me too!!
GO BIG OR GO HOME. GET THE RCF EVOX 12. PORTEBLE & WAY MORE POWERFUL THAN THIS J8. YOU'RE WELCOME!!!
THANK YOU!!!
I would never buy something that couldn’t tackle all my events. That’s just dumb.
Buy bigger so you can cover everything and not have to have multiple systems. My K10.2s work for 95% of my events
