@@SalX22 hello; no my friend, Portugal was for sure a colonial empire, but the early stages of this mega venture was to reach India and secure its trade for us.
The conquest and or construction of forts, garrisons, and the establishment of treaties served the interest of snatch the Indian trade from our rivals - namely the Ottomans and Venice.
Colonialism came precisely after the disastrous Iberian Union, where we lost the monopoly of India, and then turned to further exploit the territories of Brasil. Even the African territories of Angola, Moçambique and Bissau are a much later affair.

let me brief it. the portugies armey with 400 men lead by Christofer Dagama arrived in 16th century, after the battle was completed some of them remain in the country. in the early 17th century Empror Susiniyos converted to Catholics. after this incidence the people of Abyssinia rebel on him. after that he succeed the thrown to his son Fasil or Fasiladas as an Emperor. immediately the Emperor sent out all foreign nations in the country. this is called the close door policy, that is why Ethiopia is not active in world politics for about 300years until 19 th century.

Somali's are documented as people in rich city states due to indian trade you are ahistoric. Much of the somali's in the interior had nomadic lives however it is a stupid argument to call somalis nomadic themselves since they had developed cities in the middle ages and prior.

Well,...if I remember well, the chronicles over here in Portugal doesn't say quite that (the ~50 remaining training their allies in the use of the musket) otherwise this would make a lot of sense right when they landed from the Armada heading to the Red Sea. Indeed there was a big cache of material, some heavy, that had been buried because it was not feasible to move it around, and in some extent the training could have happened but it doesn't look to have been written by the writer which accompanied the expedition. What it is written is that a complete change of tactics took place for the final engagement with the Portuguese contingent taking care (aim) solely against the Ottomans while the Ethiopian Cavalry and other forces doing as much as possible to cover them. Eventually one good aimed shot made the difference.
It is also not commented that the Ethiopian Royalty weren't impressed at first with the number or ability of the Portuguese that came in their help. Cristovão da Gama was aware of that and in one of the early skirmishes when the Ethiopian allies advised to simply go around an enemy high ground stronghold they classified as too difficult to take, he took a chance to single handed with his men take it out without help of their allies. The description of the events is interesting. For some days the Portuguese would probe the walls with small groups. On a safe distance, hidden, the Artillery commanders were observing where the reaction was showing in the walls and doing their maths. When finally the day of the assault come, they divided the group and storm the fort from 3(?) sides. Already knowing where the defenders would gather, the artillery showed up and fired simultaneously for the 1st time with repeated precise hits, creating havoc in the structure & defences. Casualties among the Portuguese were very low. At the distance it is said the Royalty was witnessing the events astonished and from that point onwards they would comply with whatever the course of action the Portuguese suggest.

@Forsaken Janissary Actually, many Africans voluntarily converted to Islam and then created large empires. Mansa Musa's wealth resulted more than from a trade in slaves. Mali's wealth derived from it being situated between lucrative trade routes connecting North Africa with lands south of the Sahara. Gold and salt were shipped through these routes. Mali's taxation of trade routes is what made Mali and its emperors exorbitantly wealthy.

Imam Ahmad is noted by the majority of scholars to be a somali. He's mostly known for leading a majority somali army that defeated the Ethiopians. The Ethiopians actually outnumbered the somalis the majority of the time actually. There's actually a battle where the Ethiopians had 200,000 footmen and 10,000 knights whereas the somalis were only 15,000. The somalis only had a single elite company of gunners.

@@ayubosman3105 Imam Ahmed Ibrahim Al Ghazi (nicknamed Gurey in somali) was a somali imam who waged a jihad against the solomonic dynasty. He fought many major battles where most he was outnumbered over 10-1. He conquered 2/3rds of the Ethiopians lands. However they asked for help from the Portuguese,, they lost some of their land, Ahmed asked the help of the ottomans and there was one final battle where he was eventually killed. In the end, everything returned back to how it was in the beginning. What Kings and General does is make it seem like an Arab-Habashi war which it isn't. The majority of Ahmed's army including himself were somali tribal warriors. Also he makes it seem like a one sided annihilation of the somalis. This is because he only uses Portuguese sources. He never bothers using the Futuh Al Habasha, it was written by one of his followers Sihab Ad-Din Ahmad. If this video was non biased he'd have used both sources and using analogy he'd use the more accurate source of the two for different parts of the story. However he biases the Habashi side and makes them look like they dominate the somalis. Its the other way around, throughout history whenever it was 1v1 between somalis and Ethiopians we'd always kick their asses. However they always run to Europeans for help.
