I felt i needed to let you know that i followed your instructions and it worked, my CCC radio is alive again, no more constant reboots. I am so pleased and great full that you taught me how to do this. I will remember your generosity for many years to come. Thank you
    I used...
Soldering flux Liquid SMD/RMA No Clean RF800. Tilted the board and let the flux run through.
Hot air paint stripping Heat Gun set to 400℃. Warmed the chip then up to 170℃.
Infrared Thermometer Digital Temperature Gun. Constantly monitored the temp on the chip.

2023 . You are a legend. I just did a reflow today on the unit and it fixed my totally non-responsive navigation. I broke the fiber socket but nothing that cannot be "solvered" with some silicone heat gun. The temperature I used was ~ 400 degrees Celsius as lower values would not make the flex to "popcorn". Special care must be taken for the components near the uC.

Dude you saved my life :-). The CCC in my E92 (2006) has the same layout. Before I did a try in the oven with around 150 °C without success, more than 20 °C outside forced the CCC into reboot loop again. Then I just followed your video. I used nearly the same SMD station and infrared thermometer but a different flux, all cheap stuff from Amazon. Mister, like others here I'd like to thank you for taking the time to make that video. Thank you
The first attempt for me was not a success but the second attempt worked!!!
    Here's what I did :
-I used the same flux that you used in the video, ordered on amazon. I believe it's a important point here to remember.
-BEFORE heating the board up, I tilted it so I could see the flux entering on one side and coming out on the other.
-150 degree C max, constantly monitored with a laser thermometer.
    - I cleaned the fiber optic the rubbing alcohol, the right connector had glue on it and I could see crap on the lens.
The rest is exactly as described in the video !

I have an 07 335xi with the CCC unit but doesn't have the ram chip that you took off the board towards the start of the video and it doesnt have the chip that you first reflowed. Plus when you flip the board over to reflow the 6 chips on the back my isn't in that lay out. My car was one of the first ones off the floor in 07 so the BMW may have used a different one. Is there any way you could point me in the direction which ones to reflow? I'm boot looping with lines on the left hand side of the screen sometimes. So pretty sure reflowing will do the trick just need to know witch ones to reflow.

Nice to see Werner Herzog doing DYI tutorials.
A week after spending good money on body work and a detail job to make it look brand new, my '06 iDrive screen went blank with the white flash every half minute. I can't tell you how excited I just got finding this video.
While I've resurrected a dead MacBook Pro and LG TV by "baking" their logic boards in my oven, I don't have flux, a heat gun, your vice grip, or a contactless thermometer (I do have a hair dryer), to attempt this. What are your thoughts on placing the logic board on cardboard and baking it in the oven at 350F for about 10 minutes?
