they're basically cleaning the reverse layer of the eyelid. According to the lady, she said that a ton of dirt gets trapped there, and most people don't get that area cleaned. She mentioned some people find it real relaxing, but the girl in the video finds it extremely itchy. Hope this helps!

기름샘 짜는 것 같네요. 한국 티비에서도 의사가 나와서 혼자서 하는 눈 마사지 이후 면봉으로 닦아내는 법 보여준적 있어요. 몇 달에 한번씩 하면 되는 것 같아요. 굳이 저런 샵 안가도 집에서도 가능하더라구요. 보통 눈알이 기름막으로 덮여있는데 새 기름으로 갈아줘야 좋은 거겠죠 ㅎㅎ오랜 기름은 닦아내면 누런 색으로 나오더라구요 ㅎㅎ
There was a translation error, that specific line was supposed to mean: "I'll tell you, you become popular after this eye cleaning". This is because the word 火 means fire, which is another way to say inflammation. However, it is also used to describe becoming popular. In context, that specific sentence meant she would become popular from the eye cleaning

As someone who is studying to become an optometrist seeing this done without gloves or any seen sanitation of the tool made me so stressed out for her. I felt she was going to leave with her eyes hurt. :O
Well in this case the gloves will reduce friction which is actually much better under these circumstances so yes it's slightly less sanitary but overall it's much safer to have no gloves on.

예전에 눈 기름샘 막혀서 결국 안검염 걸려서 병원 갔을때 의사쌤이 저렇게 눈 까뒤집어서 거즈 덮고 손으로 꾹 눌러서 기름 짜내버리더라고요... 졸라 아팠어요 지옥을 보고 왔습니다... 그 경험 생각하면 거즈나 면봉이나... 위생은 거기서 거기 아닐까요... 생각보다 걱정하지 않아도 되는 걸지도 모릅니다
That's an old fashion way of eye cleaning (at least in my parents' generation, baby boomers). The concept behind is that a lot of eye disease first contact right at the upper eyelashes area. My mom used to do that once in a while to my eyes too when I was a kid. I had that terrifying reaction too.
My mom got dirt stuck in her eyes blocking her ducts. The Dr office pretty much had to do something like this, she was given a twilight sedative, then eyelids flipped up a bit, and eye drops put in, massaged, and a Q-Tip sorta thingy was used. It was gross looking too. But it fixed her blocked ducts.
in my home island, many of my people do this- not professionally.. (i thought we were the only ones who did this) but actually just for comfort or even for fun. your cousin or sibling may do this to your eyes as well lol. we don’t use brushes or anything, just a certain type of grass, in our language it’s called ‘moku’ and very easy to find. we use the soft part and soften it even more by biting and chewing on it.. and then we do exactly what that lady did in the video. it feels soooo ticklish and itchy, i’ve only tried it once because i’m scared i may go blind.. but my experience with this was that it’s incredibly itchy, and made my eyes really watery. but it was a very comfortable experience lol

As someone who doesn't wear contacts cuz things in my eye freaks me out, someone telling me to relax while poking my eyelid with a needle is a personal nightmare. This is all types of "no thank you."
Probably a scam but I do know that sometimes your tear ducts can have build up dust and oils in them which can cause dry eye and like any part of your body your eyelid would shed skin and scraping would exfoliate it. Weather on not that’s actually good for you idk.

I'm annoyed at people in the comments saying your eyes clean themselves, not always, not for everyone. I used to get blocked tearducts so much as a kid (it runs in my family), I was prescribed million different creams and eyedrops and nothing ever helped. Maybe if this treatment was available I could've avoided my eyelids having to be cut open and scarred for years.

I had a western medicine doctor who flipped my eyelids inside out like this & used Q-tips to express “whiteheads” on the insides off my eyelids & then clean them similar to this. It looks A LOT worse than it feels. You just aren’t used to anything wriggling around on the insides of your eyelids...feels weird.

기름샘 짜는 것 같네요. 한국 티비에서도 의사가 나와서 혼자서 하는 눈 마사지 이후 면봉으로 닦아내는 법 보여준적 있어요. 몇 달에 한번씩 하면 되는 것 같아요. 굳이 저런 샵 안가도 집에서도 가능하더라구요. 보통 눈알이 기름막으로 덮여있는데 새 기름으로 갈아줘야 좋은 거겠죠 ㅎㅎ오랜 기름은 닦아내면 누런 색으로 나오더라구요 ㅎㅎ
다래끼가 자주 나는 눈인데 눈물샘 셀프로 청소하고 엄청 좋아졌어요. 스팀타올로 눈을 따뜻하게 해주고 면봉으로 점막을 닦아주면 간단하답니다

This cleaning removes the residue from mascara and lash glue that gets stuck just under the eyelids for a long time. The eyelids are gently massaged and the residue removed from the tear ducts. But optometrist do this under sterile controlled environment.

Getting an eye infection just from watching this.
As someone who is studying to become an optometrist seeing this done without gloves or any seen sanitation of the tool made me so stressed out for her. I felt she was going to leave with her eyes hurt. :O
Well in this case the gloves will reduce friction which is actually much better under these circumstances so yes it's slightly less sanitary but overall it's much safer to have no gloves on.

That's an old fashion way of eye cleaning (at least in my parents' generation, baby boomers). The concept behind is that a lot of eye disease first contact right at the upper eyelashes area. My mom used to do that once in a while to my eyes too when I was a kid. I had that terrifying reaction too.

My mom got dirt stuck in her eyes blocking her ducts. The Dr office pretty much had to do something like this, she was given a twilight sedative, then eyelids flipped up a bit, and eye drops put in, massaged, and a Q-Tip sorta thingy was used. It was gross looking too. But it fixed her blocked ducts.

in my home island, many of my people do this- not professionally.. (i thought we were the only ones who did this) but actually just for comfort or even for fun. your cousin or sibling may do this to your eyes as well lol. we don’t use brushes or anything, just a certain type of grass, in our language it’s called ‘moku’ and very easy to find. we use the soft part and soften it even more by biting and chewing on it.. and then we do exactly what that lady did in the video. it feels soooo ticklish and itchy, i’ve only tried it once because i’m scared i may go blind.. but my experience with this was that it’s incredibly itchy, and made my eyes really watery. but it was a very comfortable experience lol

As someone who doesn't wear contacts cuz things in my eye freaks me out, someone telling me to relax while poking my eyelid with a needle is a personal nightmare. This is all types of "no thank you."

Probably a scam but I do know that sometimes your tear ducts can have build up dust and oils in them which can cause dry eye and like any part of your body your eyelid would shed skin and scraping would exfoliate it. Weather on not that’s actually good for you idk.

I'm annoyed at people in the comments saying your eyes clean themselves, not always, not for everyone. I used to get blocked tearducts so much as a kid (it runs in my family), I was prescribed million different creams and eyedrops and nothing ever helped. Maybe if this treatment was available I could've avoided my eyelids having to be cut open and scarred for years.

I dont know why but the heavy breathing made me relax to the point I was falling asleep. It just reminds me of whenever my mom grabbed me and started to pop pimples, checked on my head ect.

I had a western medicine doctor who flipped my eyelids inside out like this & used Q-tips to express “whiteheads” on the insides off my eyelids & then clean them similar to this. It looks A LOT worse than it feels. You just aren’t used to anything wriggling around on the insides of your eyelids...feels weird.
