Karita Mattila is a true embodiment of the word DIVA while remaining down to earth and approachable. So committed to all her roles whether it be Tosca, Manon, Salome, etc. Great acting, Spectacular soprano, what more could you want in an opera singer?
i listened to those words a few times, and what i think she means is, after fleming says "i've never had to warm up splits in the dressing room", she reminds matilla that she should be warming up, and she says "they're about to come"- referring to the splits
I know! They're always a little unpredictable. There was a moment during the 'La Sonnambula' broadcast where someone evidently forgot to hand Deborah Voigt her cuecard and she was left staring at the camera for a good ten seconds.
That's totally what I heard (lol)!!! I thought it was the combination of her accent and my having a dirty mind that made me hear stuff that wasn't really being said.
Hahahahahaha your comment actually made me laugh out loud. I love how you call her "La Fleming". Silly Renee, what are you doing? You are not Barbara Walters.
La Flegming, how cute. Deborah Voigt did the same thing to Dessay during intermission. These gonzo-ambush interviews are so startling during the Met broadcast intermissions.
"goto41", it's a myth indeed. In facts people weight much more precisely and sensibly; they know that a soprano *has to* make beautiful high notes, and that she *has to* do all the rest as well. Taking high notes as "everything" (which NONE does) would be silly; taking it for nothing (which just a few "fast posters" are doing themselves and/or attributing to others) would be even more. oh, i love her so much!
Very impressive on both accounts!
LOL awesome!
Oh JuillHope! You're simply fabulous!
Guys, it's not like hitting a high C is easy. Hers was just fine. Appreciate the fact that she tried and did quite well.
That's the American mentality. Everything is about competition and technicalities.
As a Finn, I am so sorry. There was a time, when she had good taste.

Karita on yksi ! Hänen kaltaistaan ei ole toista, huumori taidot suuri tähti . Ihailen kovasti
The split was better than the C.
For a singer, it is way better the other way around.
I have never known that much about Karita Mattila, but after viewing this, her "cool factor" has gone up about 1000%.
@whigwood I was wondering the same thing...

Did I hear it right at 0.18?
Hahahahahaha your comment actually made me laugh out loud. I love how you call her "La Fleming". Silly Renee, what are you doing? You are not Barbara Walters.
hahaha...yeah, that makes much more sense
that was a high c?i thought it was higher

What do you mean,his a high C !
@alemerent I agree,the high C,was not pleasing to my ears !
Im not crazy about her high C here.
quelle décontraction avant de chanter un opéra d'une telle intensité dramatique et musicale...épatant
@AfroPoli Her C was fine. .___.

That high C sounds like she saw a big rat and got scared. Good splits though!!!
I have to know what Karita says around 0:16, 0:17, because to me it sounds like she says something naughty
Silly. You dount have to be a trained dancer to do the splits you just have to be loose in the crouch.
rofl lol "loose in the crouch" lol
Doing a split after the high C,how tacky and inappropriate,and extremely out of character !
This is silly! Has nothing to do with the opera, the character, or the singing.
