Sorrell Booke was an underrated, master actor. Compare his hilarious "Fight for the mountains! Fight for the valleys!" in this scene (along with all his comic rants as Boss Hogg) with his sober, understated performance as a U.S. Senator in 'Fail Safe' (1964) and you'll get an idea of his range.
As a kid, I used to like the car chases and the jumps, but I always thought Boss Hogg was the funniest character....little did I know he was hands down the most talented actor on that show. Watching the show as an adult, Bo, Luke, and Daisy were more good looking than talented.....they didn't do much actual acting.....but Booke was a master. The show didn't have great writing and certainly wasn't a masterpiece...but Booke took what he had to work with and made it memorable.
Great scene. Boss Hogg is so bad. But he is also so hilarious that you can't help but like him. One could argue that Boss Hogg is really the star of the show. In this episode Boss Hogg reminded me of George Washington Duke from "Rocky" V. GWD was also very bad. But he was also really hilarious and could get you to side with him.
Sorry but the general Lee will ALWAYS be the star of the show me and 100m other kids bought general Lee hot wheels, general Lee posters, general Lee model kits, a select few of us (not me) bought real chargers and had the general Lee in their garage.
That's a good meaning of that too nowadays of this younger Generation now today don't understand these old saying back in the older days when older folks used to tell great old sayings to understanding of the old saying
The J. D. Weatherspoon chain of pubs in Britain are partly named after J. D. Hogg. Tim Martin is the real name of the owner of the J. D. Weatherspoon pub chain. The Weatherspoon part of the name comes from one of Tim's schoolteacher's who told Tim that he would never achieve anything in life. Tim was obviously a fan of The Dukes of Hazzard and inspired by J. D. Hogg!
'Kin ell! I recorded this episode off the telly back in 1980 on an audio tape as we didn't have a video recorder. I loved the 'Dukes' so much I used to listen to the tape back over and over again. I found it recently in a box in the loft and played it for the first time in decades to my young lad who is probably the same age I was back then!! Can't believe I have just seen the moving pictures of that episode for the first time in 34 years!! Weird seeing video to the audio. The other episode I recorded was one about a bank robbery whilst on an annual trip to Atlanta and Daisy inadvertently took pictures of some robbers?? Love to see that one too.
And I thought I was the only one who did that. I have the episode where Boss Hogg sits on a needle containing truth serum and tells the truth for that entire episode. It was really funny. I'd like to watch it again after all those years.
Tiqerboy lol! Just looking back and seen your reply. You were as bonkers as me then chap!! I remember that episode! Just looked on Wikipedia and it would appear your episode was called 'Nothin' but the truth', aired Feb 5 1982, season 4. Just found mine, Season 3 episode 2 'Enos Strate to the top' aired Nov 5 1980, (that was the bank robber one) and the one shown here was also season 3, episode 4 'And in this corner, Luke Duke' aired Nov 14 1980. Gone and done it now and ordered season 3 off of ebay for a tenner! Gonna have to have a Sunday afternoon with me lad watching all those episodes for the first time in 34 years!!! Take it easy mate
ShelsleySpecial I've got the episode Follow that Still on an old VHS tape I recorded when I was 5 in the mid 80's when they started showing re-runs of the show after it went off of the air for good. I'd always pause it at the first scene after Waylon says, " And those are the Dukes, they didn't bring bows and arrows to blow up another outhouse. " ....showing Bo & Luke getting out of the General and a Superb shot of the General Lee sitting there with the narrow pushbar up front, cb antenna sticking up on the trunk lid. Also couldn't get enough of when Hardluck Jones put the General in that barn & Bo says, " I just don't believe it, then Luke says, the General! " That episode had some great shots of the General Lee in it!
Anyone see the episode were the FBI has Boss Hogg hiding out at the Duke Farm and he's sleeping I Daisy 🛏️ bed and she goes in to go to sleep not knowing he's there and starts changing into her night clothes . God her changing clothes got me very excited
Luke was a hypocrite, and Bo was a better driver. Also Luke was not 'tougher' than Bo, just a slightly better fighter. After all Luke was in the Marines, and Bo wasn't. ofc you could argue that Luke is better than Bo because he joined the Marines and Bo didn't, but Luke was older than Bo, and right after Luke got back from the Marines and Bo graduated high school they were put on probation so, Bo didn't have a chance to join the Marines. (don't believe me about the facts, watch Happy Birthday General Lee from season 7)
Though I have this on dvd why not show complete episodes instead of all these clips all the time? While I have it on dvd some people may not, so what's with all the clips & not the complete episodes? Just wondering is all. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones for having it on dvd.
If they have a fire stick on there tv they can watch any episode they want of the Dukes of Hazzard . And if they have Hula I'm sure Hula will show it someday as it was a very popular show
This is so easy, just study a book on human anatomy and avoid shots to vital areas. Throw short punches not pressing through, then increase the power and range until you beat your opponet without hurting them too bad.

Heck, even just compare him to the Boss Hogg we get here vs. the Boss Hogg we get in like season 1. That alone should tell you his wide range. Lol
Lol

@@baritonebynight Yes, and James Best too. They were quite a duo.
Yep, when Boss is nice to the Dukes you know he wants something

Yeah Boss was the bomb.

Originally aired on my birthday, which is November 14th, 1980.
Happy Birthday.
I'm surprised the cake didn't end up in someone's face.
And that someone's name is Cletus.
Chekov's cake
Beware of sneaks bearing gifts. LOL
Olá
That's a very True old saying when older folks used to say
That's a good meaning of that too nowadays of this younger Generation now today don't understand these old saying back in the older days when older folks used to tell great old sayings to understanding of the old saying
The fight took place in "Hogg Square Garden"!
I love this episode

Boss Hogg's speech got me so pumped up!

A good TV show
Did boss Hogg actually cried after hearing a tragic story?!
I always thought Luke was a cooler dude than Bo.
Fr
Luke is stronger tougher and smarter than Bo
