*_Ahhh~~_* One of my all time favourite songs from any source. It is also one of the first Touhou themes I listened to, in the form of a Black MIDI arrangement by EpreTroll. That happened nearly two years ago, during late June of 2015, or perhaps early July of the same.
IIRC the soundtrack for EoSD was composed with the SC-88 Pro in mind rather than the SD-90, so overall the EoSD MIDI soundrack, when played back on an SC-88 Pro (or equivalent, as Roland did release other products using the same instrument mapping, such as the SC-880 and the SK-88 Pro), will sound better than the WAV soundtrack.
Tldr; midi file is music sheet file. You feed it to sound card to playback using its instrument bank like giving musician music sheet to play it live, it will be in better clarity. The wav file is exported from a synthesizer software so it like recorded music which will suffer from some sort of compression depending on which software ZUN use to composed and exported those wav's.
If anyone is thinking to themselves, “wow! This sounds better!” It’s probably due to these renditions being exported at a higher bitrate(or at least I think they are) so they’ll sound much more clear.
Already one of the better tracks from EoSD, this really does it for me.

WHY IS MIDI SO MUCH BETTER THAN WAV

I like the DiPP version

Wav has same bitrate around
Zun used deltuning and an entirely different sound source
no, i just like the sound of these instruments more than the instruments that zun used to record the original soundtrack in wav

The instruments in the MIDI just sound so much more stiff and forceful!!! I don't understand how people are saying the MIDI is better!!!
