I can hear what I never have before in these WB&L songs that I've listened to a countless number of times. I also believe Jack Bruce was a musical genius and I think he brought out the very best in those he worked with. I can hear Leslie West in this mix, strumming and picking out tasteful guitar notes that I couldn't ever detect before when listening to this song. The organ, (and or the mellotron) and piano that I hear are Bach-like and once again highlight JB's evocative compositional skills. I guess part of what I like to listen to is in the past musically, but hearing these versions is like discovering new music today. I wonder if any contemporary musicians would ever hear this song, along with, say... Pollution Woman and make a worthy attempt at striking some new musical coinage from the same precious metal, while doing justice to the original mint mark. Once again it's a treat to hear these mixes and very much appreciated!
No problem, as soon as I have some time, I will post the full album in two separate videos. I've posted a full quad mix of "Third Degree" that has a different vocal track and guitar fills.
I remember finding this LP in college at a used record sale. Ears unexpectedly surprised when extra Leslie West tracks chimed in on Why Dontcha. Saw Jack in 1990 w/ Baker and Saraceno. Could hear a pin drop when he did Imaginary Western solo on piano. Still get chills...
Always loved this song. I remember first hearing this, after having listened under, over, sideways, and down all of Cream's catalog when I was younger, and I was flabbergasted!!! It has Cream, Mountain and Bruce solo career influences in there. What a song!!! The best mix of hard rock, jazz and classical influences in one song!!!
Wonderful! Love hearing those rear channels alone. Thanks for posting. Always loved the ending instrumental section starting at 4:09. Of course the lead guitar which I love is not there, but it's great to concentrate on these backing tracks. What a piece of music!!!
Fleetwood Mac Spirit West Bruce and Laing Philadelphia Spectrum November '72 Foghat WBL Same venue February 1973 James Gang was supposed to play but were snowed in NYC. So Foghat came back out and jammed some more and so did WB&L.
I have two different CDs of Whatever Turns You On. One is the Esoteric CD, and one is a Columbia CD. Both are different mixes. For instance, Back Fire on Esoteric has the extra guitar, while the Columbia does not. Is the Esoteric a downmix of the Quad, or something else? Any help would be appreciated!
That's the idea behind this and other postings, my friend, to hear the details of the overdubs that can't be easily perceived by listening to the stereo mix. Usually the front L+R tracks have the most obvious instruments. This is why I am posting the rear L+R tracks.
@@murilix73 thanks for this mix, way cool on the rear tracks. Been trying forever to locate a Quad digital mix of this perfect 1st LP. Have only the Whatever Turns You On in Quad (digital)

This & Don’t Fear the Reefer are my favorite Quad recordings.
Great song, too bad there doesn't seem to be a complete version on youtube
Yes there is. Search for West, Bruce and Laing; "Out Into the Fields". It'll be right there in front of you.

I have tried to find out, but no success.
Is there a live Performance of Out Into ?
Not that I know of. There are plenty of performances by several Jack Bruce band incarnations though.
On entend presque pas Jack chanter!
Naturellement, ce ne sont que les canaux arrière du mixage quadriphonique
The lead vocals are completely lost!
