For anyone wondering if they should read the manga - YES. DO IT. Furudate is phenomenal in every way, and the upcoming movies won't do the story justice pacing-wise.
Not even just pacing, but the story. Nothing is going to happen in these movies. So much will be left out that they’ll just feel like cheap highlight reels
I second this. The anime may never show all of the incredible games seen in the manga, but even show they do so, it's not necessary to feel the goosebumps, chills and raw emotion when reading the manga. 👍
Both Bokuto and Nishinoya had a very profound impact on how I look at my hobbies and my work. Whenever I'm up against a wall, I just think to myself "If I get good enough, I'll be able to enjoy the challange of this instead of dreading that one might appear at any second". I had this fresh perspective on problems because of Bokuto. His quote "Think about what's fun, not what's easy" is probably something that I'm gonna remember for the rest of my life. In a similar way, Nishinoya has inspired me to try out more and more things out of my comfort zone, because it'd be a shame to pass up the opportunity to do something new!
same here!! what kageyama's grandpa said also left a huge impression on me. "and when you're good enough, somebody even better will find you!" what's even better than enjoying and having fun at the thing you're good at? to have a friend+rival in that monstrous journey with you!!!!
Some bonus Japanese trivia and an extra reason to love Bokuto’s “think fun, not easy” philosophy: in Japanese “easy” is “raku” 楽、while “fun” is “tanoshii”, which is written using the very same kanji 楽しい。So it just looks extra neat and feels extra touching in Japanese. Furudate spoke on a number of occasions about how they try to keep the lines relatively simple, and I feel like this is one of the prime examples of when this simplicity brings out Haikyuu’s and Bokuto’s charm and makes a yet another lasting impression.
Fukurodani is so interesting and empowering as a team. They would do anything for their ace, and they are not bound by his insufficiencies. It's such a beautiful connection.
One of the goats of Haikyuu. On a emotional level, he is as smart as Hinata and able to see things others can't. His hot and cold personality when playing is actually real. He feels so realistic when he is playing that it hits close to home.
I remember when I desperately wanted that finisher shirt that my friend got after he finished marathon. In that time, I can only do 10km. He said that its more memorable if I get my own shirt after I finish it.. And he was right.. i got it, and that was really awesome. Although I think I walk like a zombie after my first try…😅
bokuto's idea of "i want to be someone who makes my team proud, who isn't a burden" really resonates with the comment during the training camp of him being "the baby of the family" to me, idk. great video!
I'm so glad that you talk about his wisdom, because it's very true. He is one of the most mature and wisest characters in Haikyuu, even if he isn't booksmart and even if he is silly. You can't inspire others in the way he does mindlessly. The conversation with Yachi you brought up is one of my favourites, as he tells her to look how strong they've become.
Bokuto impersonates both Haikyuu and Blue Lock values at the same time. He is the star taking the risk in the decisive moment, while still being a team player who cares about his team mates. My favourite character!
@@contemptman3646 definitely i'd argue if anything, hinata and kageyama both represented more of the values of blue lock at the beginning, but we know more than anything that's also misleading due to their backstories being shedded
I wouldn't say THE best, but definitely ONE OF THE BEST suited to play at pro. Hinata, Kageyama, Oikawa, Ushijima all has the qualities to make to the pro just like Bokuto.
What always amazing me about Haikyuu is the portrayal of they characters in different state of mind from some that are still growing mentally like Kageyama, Hinata, and Tsukishima. To someone reaching the finishing line like Atsumu and Bokuto. Than, to someone that already past the finishing line like Nishinoya, Daichi and Kita. the fact that each character has different journey ahead even though, the are at the same line make Haikyuu amazing.
This is so beautifully articulated, and completely explains the uniqueness that I've always felt Bokuto and Fukurodani had compared to the other teams. It's a brilliant reminder of how Fukurodani is not dependent on Bokuto the way Shiratorizawa depends on Ushiwaka and I love how you made the connection of how that plays into Bokuto's character and personality. Many, many thanks for making this video.
I want to thank you for all of your analyses, and especially for your Haikyuu! library. It’s a story with a heartbeat- a pulse infused with a simple, beautiful, and infectious passion- and you seize it every single time. Your essays prompt me to think and feel the same way these characters do, and for that reason, I relish each rewatch and anticipate every addition. Thank you so very much for sharing!
Amazing video!! Bokutos character arc and characterization is just so fulfilling. All of his quotes, endless exuberance, and passion for his teammates makes him just as endearing as Hinata. Awesome analysis and his line of look at how far we’ve come will never not make me tear up.
bokuto is the character I love the most, not only in haikyuu but in general, the most inspiring and admirable for me. I wish I could press the button like a thousand times, it brought tears to my eyes in some parts🥺amazing video.
OOH nailed it again!! Bokuto is one my favorite characters or i guess everyone loves Bokuto. But that scene with Tsuki in particular is one of my most epic scenes even though he starts it kind of casually but the anime at least nails such a motivational monologues of Bokuto! the thrill of the challenge ahead and not just thinking for the furture and giving it your 120%
I'm a big believer that Furudate had at least a little bit of influence from the philosophy of Stoicism (not the modern youtube kind, but like the Seneca, Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus kind). The more I read about the philosophy, the more I see little pieces of info where I'm like "hey, didn't I already read about this in Haikyuu?" No character in Haikyuu supports this idea more than Kita. Where for him, his own virtue is his reward, he does good because it "just feels good." He is the embodiment of the four cardinals; Wisdom, Justice, Courage, and Temperance. But this video's about Bokuto so I'm gonna stop talking about Kita. Bokuto's philosophy of "think what's fun, not what's easy" reminds me of Hercules at the crossroads. Where on his path he comes to a crossroad, two choices. One of vice, and of virtue, however both lead to the same destination of success. He can choose to take the easy route and be successful without putting in the work. Or he can put in the hard work, he can struggle and fight and do all the things most people wouldn't consider doing if given an alternative. But he chose virtue regardless, and his godliness was warranted, he *deserved* it now. (p.s. I only know vaguely about the crossroads so if anyone is a Greek mythos buff feel free to elaborate on it or even correct me if I got something wrong) I'd absolutely love to see videos relating Haikyuu to the ideas of Epictetus, Marcus and Seneca.
It may not be related, but I believe Kita’s focus on being built from His daily routine, and the results being a byproduct could be derived from Aristotle
@@smithexotic9664 Could be, that's why I love haikyuu, almost anything in the series could be related back to some sort of philosopher if you think hard enough

I absolutely loved this video!! Thank you so much! Bokuto is a favorite of mine for all the reasons you've numbered and more! I did notice it when he said "only recently" and I was suprised, but then I remembered, he's been to the National's, he's lost big games, and like Hinata after him, he rose from his 'ashes' with an even greater hunger for victory. Perhaps that's when his passion for Volleyball trully awoke. Magnificent character. Far more developped than even Kageyama! All of Haikyuu!! (Hinata Shoyo especially) made me realize how much I need to keep fighting for what I love to do. I'm off to watch more of your amazing videos. Thank you for sharing your love for this series with us. ♥
I appreciate your skill of reading in to these characters and stories so thoroughly since I'm not good at it myself. I feel like I've gotten much wiser after watching these videos. So.. thank you!
I love how Bokuto's motto goes from : I wanna play volleyball and have tonnes of fun to "We will win them all" when he realises the team will be splitting up after the nationals.
a part of me always breaks whenever I see the "loneliness of monsters" conveyed in any story. people think the only hard part is when you suck at something but few understand that when you reach a certain level or have talent, you end up alone for long stretches of time because simply, no one can keep up yet. the feeling of that crossroad is not an easy thing to experience, let alone get through.
I've been away from this channel for sometime, I'm glad coming back I got to see this video. I have always wanted one by you about this lovable owl and I'm happy to see it!
I feel like Bokuto and Asahi’s development paralleled Bokuto getting over his yips becoming a reliable ace to make himself not a burden and Asahi had to stop carrying the teams burden and allowing them to help him.
10:45 this panel was both beautiful and bittersweet. Beautiful as you can see the appreciation this man has for his teammates. But bittersweet as you know that he has grown and is taking off as player. He will now put the burden of his team on himself, whether it was justified of not.
