You are 100% right, it really is, I never explored the little drop down menu on the speed editor! one less thing DR needs from FCP! Thanks for making me research it a bit more!
Regarding the Collision Detection, Resolve has this partially implemented but only for audio (not video) and it's called Layered Audio Editing. I made a feature request to extend this for video as well on the Resolve forum about 2 years ago. My thread is called "Layered Video Editing", so for anyone who is on the Resolve forum and wants this feature, search for it and give it a bump. I desperately want this feature as Resolve eating clips is my biggest complaint about Resolve, so I really hope they fix this.
You can move clips vertically without any horizontal slippage on the timeline by holding down the shift button. The clips will not move left or right when you do this.
Yeah I mention that in the video, it's the multi step that annoys me, not a deal breaker just nice to haves with all of these. Thanks for watching and the comment Erik!
My guess is certain features will never appear in Resolve because of the working relationship the companies have with each other. The cut page should be magnetic like FCP, but it isn’t. CapCut had a magnetic main timeline, but Resolve can’t implement FCP’s speed oriented features? I wonder why?
FCPX’s magnetic timeline is a major advancement in video editing. Apple may have the total legal lock on that? It’s a creative experience enhancer and a huge time saver.
Great video, Rafael! It's shocking how useful the skimmer is. I can find what I need and quickly pop back to that place that I want to place it. It comes in handy so often.
All I want is when I use in and out point when exporting to not have to go 1 frame back and then set the out point so that it shows actually on the end of my clip... But yeah, these are also great!
My favourite is the range tool. Long interviews for a documentary, selecting many (!) ranges with the range tool instead of the fck.. subclips. When learning Resolve I was looking for this feature and could not believe they don't have it (yet). And how easy is it to favorite selections!
The entire cut page should be a mini Final Cut. That way everyone would make the jump. I have to admit it is hard to make the jump even if it’s better in many ways.
I wish FCPX would let me create and export my own LUT's like you can do in DAVINCI. I own the Panasonic Lumix GH7 which allows you to import LUT's directly into the camera and that's so handy for my workflow.
Would love a secondary playhead. And Resolve already supports this (kindof). If you use the blade tool, you can hover and scrub over footage in the timeline without touching the playhead. Just make this a toggle BMD! The range tool would be great, and funny enough the fairlight page has a very similar tool, just bring it to the edit page bmd! You can do hold frames, but it's a lot more clicks and requires retime keyframes
Favorites & Hide Rejected clips. I really leaned on hide rejected just so I can focus on my working assets in FCP . I really miss it in resolve. Final Cut as a creative tool is still superior to DVR as it is centered on composing a story, a timeline. DVR has all the bells and whistles one could ask for but its interface is dense with all the tools and options . The cut page is a always my go to as it has some similarities to FCP but its still nowhere near as good as FCP.
dude the last one you said about freeze frame is wrong, in Davinci if you press crtl + r on a clip you will have speed ramping layout in there you can put a poin and there is a arrow bellow and when you click it there will be a lot of options one of them is freeze frame, not only your making a freez on one clip this is exactly like fcp.
True. Unfortunately there is no key command for it, so instead of Shift+H in FCP, it is CMD+R, then click on the little black arrow to open the context menu, then click on freeze frame. Also it's confusing why they call this "freeze frame" too, although it does a different thing than the Shift-R freeze frame.
DR is so close to being fully awesome! I feel it's still stuck with decades old processes that were important then but not so much now. Thanks for watching and the comment!
Great list! One of the biggest things that FCP wins big time over DVR is the way it handles Multicams. DVR is still clunky, especially with the audio handling. Try multichannel audio and everyting becomes messy pretty fast.
I'll have to disagree on the first one. I do a lot of Multicam projects in Resolve that can be up to and over an hour long. I regularly have audio from different sources on each track with their own set of effects and settings. I would never, ever want audio to move to another track on its own in the name of collision detection. I can see how this would benefit simple timelines. In my timelines that can have up to 13 cameras and at least as many audio sources I prefer it the way it is.
Resolve has ripple editing already, it’s the collision detection that would be a benefit. Also saying magnetic timeline would be like saying add node based color correction in fcp - not gonna happen. Thanks for watching and the comment!
@@RafaelLudwig Fair! although i would argue its maybe possibly in the CUT page, where you could have trackless editing. Appreciate the videos, they are interesting.
Fads are sometimes just that. Davinci Resolve is really only good for color grading - if That mind you.. Im not bias tho.Its good to learn new software for knowledge but lets not fool around Final Cut Pro is still King...

FCP like Hold Frame Feature also available in Resolve .

The hold frame thing in FCP you can replicate it exactly in Resolve using the retime controls.

Blackmagic needs to add position indicators. Often, there are blank spaces in my render because I didn't check if selected clips had been moved.

automatic speed is also a grate feature frm final cut pro, i even assigned a short Key for that

These are some good points you brought up. I think if they implement that that will take da Vinci to a completely new level.

One thing I wish FCPX would do is export movies faster than Resolve.
I’ve always found resolve slower in exports. Fcp is super optimized comparatively. Thanks for watching and the comment!
Great video as always, wonder when Davinci 20 is due to release. Hope they are watching.
NAB will be a big one! Either way I am excited for this year in NLE's! Everything will get a good upgrade. Thanks for watching and the comment John!
I hope apple make motion page in Final Cut Pro
That would be interesting! I'd have to learn motion more!

they need to adapt and add the compound clip feature like fcpx. their compound clip arrangement is terrible
And there are many that FCP lacks, so what's the point.
