    I have flyfished for steelhead for some 40 years. I have read, watched, and fished it all....but hands down by far the BEST video I have watched on our sport. Whoever filmed the trip and put it together should win award!!! I grew up on the Klamath River in Northern California, live and fish the PNW, and have gone to BC....had a few days of multiple steelhead, BUT you folks rocked it!!!

      I doubt most of what you say because you say you've seen it all. There is no "ALL" in steelheading. Every day, every cast, every grab is a rebirth and if it's not you've become entitled. Broaden you search. There's more out there than you say.

    Just returned to DK after a week in Norway, fishing for Atlantic Salmon, "only" got 2 this year, due to extreme water level. My soul simply craves for more, always dreamed of visiting Skeena in the hunt for big Steelheads, this little video makes me wanna sell everything i own, go to Skeena and never return, its truly a place of dreams. Well done, beautiful video that tells a little about the "flyfisher madness" :)

    April is one of my favourites. Nice Canadian girl, and a very talented spey caster. Watching her throw those long, tight loops is mesmerizing.
    Very impressive and a great ambassador for the sport.

    I remember the first time I took a fine salmon on a dry fly. It was on the River Matane in beautiful Québec. I was there with my girlfriend and in rotation with five other anglers (who all were fishing the wet fly). Near the middle of the pool I saw a large salmon roll on the surface. I covered it with a brown bomber I had tied the evening before, at camp. In one glorious moment the beast engulfed my fly...and the rest is history. A stunning 13lb bar of silver lay in the net. A moment I will never forget.

    This video encompasses everything that makes steelhead fishing great ... the scenery, the aesthetic, the joy of being with good friends (and the jealousy) and the lack of words to describe what it feels like to hook and land these fish ... really cool video!

    Epic video. Thank you for sharing some of your steelheading adventures. I'm an avid angler myself, and to me there's nothing quite like hooking and landing one of these unbelievable fish. They're challenging and elusive, which makes it all the more rewarding when you finally get one! Cheers and tight lines!

    Great video of some amazing rivers and fish. I'm reading behind the lines here, but the Dean River must really have gone downhill if April guided there for a few years but has never seen a double-header or caught a steelhead on a dry fly. It's very sad DFO is OK with steelhead being decimated by commercial and tribal netting.

    • @FishStalker777
      @FishStalker777 3 года назад

      The fish handling in this video was very good. However, rubber nets or cradles can be easier on the fish since you can land them in deeper water and more quickly. This is especially true if you're fishing solo. I carry a big rubber coated net even when hiking 5 miles up a trail. Without a net, you have to wear the fish out quite a bit more before they can be tailed and/or pull them into shallower water where they're more likely to be injured from flopping around on rocks.

    Fly fishing for steelhead is magic. My favourite river is the Morice, which joins the Bulkley which in turn, joins the Skeena.
    Standing thigh deep in cold, clear running water, the mid-fall colors on the trees, working my fly over the likely holding water, I'm at one with my surroundings. I have a nice nicotine buzz from my first cigar of the day. The first beer of the day is fizzing away in my stomach. It just might be time for my second cigar of the day. As I light up, I glance at my watch and see that it's seven o'clock in the morning.
