@Baljeet Singh Main recruits of Maratha Army were from the West coast of Konkan & until Pune was under Maratha rule. Also until then Maratha numbers were very few. And maybe you are not Aware Maratha almost ruled all of India's mainland for 50 years, even after Painpath, Madhav Rao was getting Martha's Confederacy back on track despite continuous conspiracies from Raghunath Rao. If only Madhav Rao had a better Immun system, Martha would have been stronger then British. If Sikhs got as huge as Marthas there would have been conspirators & anti-nationals like Raghunath Rao in Sikh Leadership too. But population density in rest of India was lower than today's Siberia. So almost anyone could just move in a do what the like. Alot of information is not correct. Please rectify Maratha ruled Delhi after Panipat for 35-40 years. Najib never got Delhi. He was left without any benefit because Abdali wouldn't want any trouble from other Maratha forces in upcoming years. Delhi Mughal badshah was appointed from Nanasaheb later on. Maratha had few internal political issues due to which they lost this. Without food they were winning the battle till 1:30PM which is incredible achievement without any experience of open battle. As you know Maratha were experienced in Gorilla warfare. This was made Abdali weak later on. He never turned back to Indian soil again. Not only this British fought 3 wars with with Maratha. First war leader was Mahadji Shinde and he crushed Britishers that time. It's really unfortunate that Maratha never had leadership.
Ajit Komurlekar 1. The Sikhs have been a local power but never any significat till the advent of Ranjit Singh. 2. Rangit Singh helped Ahmed Shah Abdali during his campaign and later the Afghan appointed him Governor and subsequently he took power as the Pathans grew weak. 3. The Maratthas fought well on the day but better tactics of Ahmed Shah Abdali won the day. 4. The reign of Rangit Singh did not continue after him when he died in 1839. 5. The English took over WHOLE OF PUNJAB in 1848 or 1849. 6. Now the story begins. The Sikh power was crushed by the English and were in disarray. 1857 saw The SIKHS joined the BRITISH FORCES EN MASSE and fought alongside the English against the ""AZADI FORCES""on the ridges of Delhi and later ransacking Delhi. The Punjabis as a whole including the Muslim Punjabi colluded with the British during and after 1857 and carried the British GUNS with pride and honour through out the world. The Punjabis as a whole were responsible in re establishing the British in India after 1857. a. The Famous ""Hodson's 'Horses""was formed in Jhelum in May 1857 by Maj William Hodson in 3 days after the ""Liberation fight"" started in Delhi and the SIKHS were the MAJOR PART OF IT.. b. Brigadier John Nicholson arrived at the Ridges near Delhi with 1600 Sikh ARTILLERY MEN. The Muslim Punjabi irregular cavalry from Multan had arrived earlier.. c. The Siege Train 8 mile long with heavy guns were pulled towards Delhi by Elephants provided by THE RAJAS OF PUNJAB. The historisns say that had the Rajas of Punjab not provided the Elephants the fight for indepence might have ended with English leaving India. d. Maharaja Bhupender Singh of Patiala invited the English back and gave them men and money to recapture India. So his kingdom was left to him as gratification by the British. e. The English ORDANANCE FACTORIES were working round the clock efficiently in PUNJAN througout the UPRISING producing ammunition for the English( grape shots, cannisters etc) e. The Raja of Jheend maintained efficiently a supply base at RAI for the British with food and drinks and other necessities the the British may need. f. The LOCAL LAND LORDS AND ZAMINDARS OF PUNJAB guarded the supply routes of the British and kept it safe . The passage to Delhi was unhindered and without trouble. Thanks to Punjab. 7. After the fall of Delhi. These Punjabis both SIKHS and MUSLIMS committed abhorring crimes for their British Masters 4/5 OF THE BRITISH FORCES CONSISTED OF BRITISH PAID MERCENERIES OF SIKHS, MUSLIM PUNJABIS AND PATHAN EXTRACTION. a. The ""MASS RAPES"" that followed the fall of Delhi was not stopped by the white British officers b. The mass hanging that followed the fall of Delhi were performed by these Punjabi Sikhs and Muslims. In one locality in Delhi called ""Kachcha Chillan"" 1400 freedom fighter soldiers and their supporters were hanged in one day c. 300 baigmats from the HAREM of BAHADUR SHAH ZAFAR THE LAST MUGHAL KING WAS ""EXPORTED TO PUNJAB"BY THE BRITISH FORCES. The rest you can use your imagination to complete the story. The Sikh Historian says they saved the Marhatta women from thr hands of Abdali. Hillarious. Abdali forces were well trained , disciplined and efficient. 8. Later the Punjabis both Sikhs and Muslims followed their British Masters all over Northern and Central India eliminating any resistence to their British Masters committing atrocities which will go to the INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT in modern times. These Sikh historians are putting gloss over their ugly past. In Luckhnow in Sikander Bagh 700 killed freedom fighters were left to rott as a sign of British Supermacy. 9. The freedom fighters or their sympathisers were IMPALED, SKINNED ALIVE, by the SIKHS. THE MUSLIMS WERE MADE TO EAT PIG MEAT AND THE HINDUS THE COW MEAT. THEY WERE MADE TO LICK CLEAN THE BLOOD ON THE GROUND OF THOSE KILLED BY THE SIKHS. 10. The Dead body of Muslims were burned and the Hindus were burried The Past of these Sikhs are obnoxious and full of crime. These Sikhs historians are trying to fool people. The Sikhs were ever ready to co-operate with the Marathas, but Marathas had treated Sikhs, who assisted them earlier in their north-west conquest against Afghans as a non-entity in Punjab affairs. This was because of the flawed diplomacy on the part of Marathas in not recognizing the strategic potential of Sikhs. In April 1761, Abdali was returning triumphant having destroyed Maratha power at the third battle of Panipat. His booty included 22,000 Hindu women being taken to Afghanistan to be sold into slavery. On the way they were to be used by the Afghan soldiers to satisfy their lust. So far, the Sikhs had watched this theater from a distance by not taking any sides in this battle. The Sikhs were at Sarbat Khalksa, their bi-annual meeting at Amritsar when the relatives of the women pleaded for help. They heard of the slaughter of innocent, rapes of women, and capture of more than twenty thousands Maratha women by the afghans. They heard of the fate of their country's daughters being driven away as Abdali's bounty. Their ire was aroused. All the Khalsa Misls got together and passed a resolution that Abdali is taking Indian women as slaves to his country after plundering the city of Panipat and they will free all the slaves. Sikh Misls attacking Ahmad Shah Abdali's Army Organizing themselves in small bands, the Sikhs decided to attack the rear of Abdali's army carrying the Indian women as captives. Jassa Singh led the a volunteer force and caught up with the Afghans at the River Sutlej at Goindwal. The Afghans were dismayed at the swiftness and ferocity of Sikh attack. Before they could gather themselves to counter the attack, the Sikhs rescued the Maratha women and carried away much of Abdali's booty.

It’s all hypothetical and too many syllogisms here, this is how politics worked back then, India was imperialistic. every community for themselves Marathas wanted a rule of Marathas, Afghans wanted to loot and kill sikhs for obvious reasons, and rajputs wanted rajputana rule across India. Why do we have to pretend that any of these communities were babysitting other communities to sort of justify their decisions whether it was collusion with invaders or resistance with them. We need to leave this false pride. Aye, our ancestors were warriors nobody liked to get enslaved and they all fought back with whatever they had in a way they saw fit. Sadashiv did his best, he knew warfare way better than anyone of us does. Khalsa Cavery would have been of no use in Panipath3, as the deciding factory of the battle was mechanized warfare tactics. SO Maratha lost the war when Ibrahim Khan Gardi's musket infantry was surrounded and Maratha's mainline was flanked as a result of that. If Cavery was that big of a deal then let me tell you there were 2 more huge cavalries units of Sindhiya and Holkar which were unused throughout the battle.
Sikhs sacked Mughal Delhi in 1783, no Maratha help. Sikhs conquered the Durrani Empire and no Afghan ever invaded India again, no Maratha help. Maratha have thousands more soldiers than the afghans and they still lost, this is simply the fact that Hindus are not that great at fighting. Smaller Sikh armies destroyed the Muslims, Hindus couldn’t do anything?

You also have to take into consideration that Abdali didn’t have entire Afghanistan in his support only Pashtun (pathans) of that region were his primary supporters. Tajiks, hazara, Uzbek and others were not his supporters.

So the extreme right only was able to rescue it's non combatants due to gap created in war when najib attacked centre. Marathas invaded Peshawar in 1758 and even assassinated Mughal Emperor Alamgir II(who had allied with Afghan king) in 1759 and that's why the Third Battle of Panipat in 1761 was fought. Sikh Misl was an ally during the Maratha rule in Lahore. Sikhs were not prepared to fight the huge Afghan army so they continued their guerrilla wars against Afghans. Even when the huge Afghan army again invaded Punjab in 1762, Jassa Singh Ahluwalia was forced to flee Malwa because of the same so the Afghans massacred Sikh civilians.

Alot of information is not correct. Please rectify Maratha ruled Delhi after Panipat for 35-40 years. Najib never got Delhi. He was left without any benefit because Abdali wouldn't want any trouble from other Maratha forces in upcoming years. Delhi Mughal badshah was appointed from Nanasaheb later on. Maratha had few internal political issues due to which they lost this. Without food they were winning the battle till 1:30PM which is incredible achievement without any experience of open battle. As you know Maratha were experienced in Gorilla warfare. This was made Abdali weak later on. He never turned back to Indian soil again. Not only this British fought 3 wars with with Maratha. First war leader was Mahadji Shinde and he crushed Britishers that time. It's really unfortunate that Maratha never had leadership.

1. The Sikhs have been a local power but never any significat till the advent of Ranjit Singh.
2. Rangit Singh helped Ahmed Shah Abdali during his campaign and later the Afghan appointed him Governor and subsequently he took power as the Pathans grew weak.
3. The Maratthas fought well on the day but better tactics of Ahmed Shah Abdali won the day.
4. The reign of Rangit Singh did not continue after him when he died in 1839.
5. The English took over WHOLE OF PUNJAB in 1848 or 1849.
6. Now the story begins. The Sikh power was crushed by the English and were in disarray.
1857 saw The SIKHS joined the BRITISH FORCES EN MASSE and fought alongside the English against the ""AZADI FORCES""on the ridges of Delhi and later ransacking Delhi. The Punjabis as a whole including the Muslim Punjabi colluded with the British during and after 1857 and carried the British GUNS with pride and honour through out the world.
The Punjabis as a whole were responsible in re establishing the British in India after 1857.
a. The Famous ""Hodson's 'Horses""was formed in Jhelum in May 1857 by Maj William Hodson in 3 days after the ""Liberation fight"" started in Delhi and the SIKHS were the MAJOR PART OF IT..
b. Brigadier John Nicholson arrived at the Ridges near Delhi with 1600 Sikh ARTILLERY MEN. The Muslim Punjabi irregular cavalry from Multan had arrived earlier..
c. The Siege Train 8 mile long with heavy guns were pulled towards Delhi by Elephants provided by THE RAJAS OF PUNJAB.
The historisns say that had the Rajas of Punjab not provided the Elephants the fight for indepence might have ended with English leaving India.
d. Maharaja Bhupender Singh of Patiala invited the English back and gave them men and money to recapture India. So his kingdom was left to him as gratification by the British.
e. The English ORDANANCE FACTORIES were working round the clock efficiently in PUNJAN througout the UPRISING producing ammunition for the English( grape shots, cannisters etc)
e. The Raja of Jheend maintained efficiently a supply base at RAI for the British with food and drinks and other necessities the the British may need.
f. The LOCAL LAND LORDS AND ZAMINDARS OF PUNJAB guarded the supply routes of the British and kept it safe . The passage to Delhi was unhindered and without trouble. Thanks to Punjab.
7. After the fall of Delhi. These Punjabis both SIKHS and MUSLIMS committed abhorring crimes for their British Masters
4/5 OF THE BRITISH FORCES CONSISTED OF BRITISH PAID MERCENERIES OF SIKHS, MUSLIM PUNJABIS AND PATHAN EXTRACTION.
a. The ""MASS RAPES"" that followed the fall of Delhi was not stopped by the white British officers
b. The mass hanging that followed the fall of Delhi were performed by these Punjabi Sikhs and Muslims.

The Sikhs were ever ready to co-operate with the Marathas, but Marathas had treated Sikhs, who assisted them earlier in their north-west conquest against Afghans as a non-entity in Punjab affairs. This was because of the flawed diplomacy on the part of Marathas in not recognizing the strategic potential of Sikhs.
In April 1761, Abdali was returning triumphant having destroyed Maratha power at the third battle of Panipat. His booty included 22,000 Hindu women being taken to Afghanistan to be sold into slavery. On the way they were to be used by the Afghan soldiers to satisfy their lust.
So far, the Sikhs had watched this theater from a distance by not taking any sides in this battle. The Sikhs were at Sarbat Khalksa, their bi-annual meeting at Amritsar when the relatives of the women pleaded for help. They heard of the slaughter of innocent, rapes of women, and capture of more than twenty thousands Maratha women by the afghans. They heard of the fate of their country's daughters being driven away as Abdali's bounty. Their ire was aroused. All the Khalsa Misls got together and passed a resolution that Abdali is taking Indian women as slaves to his country after plundering the city of Panipat and they will free all the slaves.
Sikh Misls attacking Ahmad Shah Abdali's Army Organizing themselves in small bands, the Sikhs decided to attack the rear of Abdali's army carrying the Indian women as captives. Jassa Singh led the a volunteer force and caught up with the Afghans at the River Sutlej at Goindwal. The Afghans were dismayed at the swiftness and ferocity of Sikh attack. Before they could gather themselves to counter the attack, the Sikhs rescued the Maratha women and carried away much of Abdali's booty.

Wrong concept that maratha ran away with leaving their women behind. U should understand that the battleground was 15 km wide. So the extreme right only was able to rescue it's non combatants due to gap created in war when najib attacked centre. Only holkar escaped and he saved as much women as possible leaving men behind as women r priorities. But when 60000 attacked on centre flank which was fighting empty stomach they start fainting . Women were slaved after each and every maratha man was killed. U can read description of slaughter in grant Duff or jadunath sarkar book. Sikh Misl was an ally during the Maratha rule in Lahore. Sikhs were not prepared to fight the huge Afghan army so they continued their guerrilla wars against Afghans. Even when the huge Afghan army again invaded Punjab in 1762, Jassa Singh Ahluwalia was forced to flee Malwa because of the same so the Afghans massacred Sikh civilians.
