The opsix (and wavestate, and modwave) mk 2's exist because of the global scarcity of Raspberry RC 3 chips which they were designed around. If Korg wanted to keep those products in production, they had to migrate them to the new RC4 chips. Besides the increased polyphony they're basically the same instrument. They're probably even inside the same cases, hence the 'stuck on' mk 2 label.
Honestly I'm surprised so many people thought they were outright cancelled, even though it should've been generally known that the Raspberry chips were scarce. That said, I think calling them a mk2 is a bit weird. If Raspberry migrate to another chip in another few years, are they going to have to do a mk3? I can understand them being v1, v2, v3 under the hood; like how various ARPs had different filter models... but mk2 being heavily featured in the marketing is the weird thing to me.
The Korg Wavestate and Opsix racks are at SE specs, which is actually higher spec than the mk2 versions. The Modwave rack is the same as the Modwave mk2 specs. I bought all 3, it's been incredibly frustrating Korg haven't released a rackmount module since the RADIAS Baffles me why they didn't use a nuToob in the King Korg NEO also
Thanks for the update. I'd like to see lightweight/mini/portable/affordable/accurate (with all the quirks) clones/reissues of: (Korg?) ARP Quadra, PolyMoog, MultiMoog, Farfisa Syntorchestra, Yamaha E70 (CS-80) organ synthesizer, Hohner Pianet N electric piano, Vox Continental organ
That stylo-drone is tempting. Especially if it turns out the case it comes in can power other modules. ie. If you're getting a eurorack drone module, AND a 42hp battery powered case for 250.
Honestly, the Buchla and friends get together on the Saturday was more fun than NAMM. Smaller companies and you get to talk to the people that own the company (for the most part)
@@JorbLovesGear Both Ian Wilson and Adam Borseti do great work on Sledge. I'm on my 2nd one now: unlike some, I found mine very dependable, until one Midi-Storm (caused by a feedback loop) in my 'studio' fried my first one. Couldn't live without one though, so I sold that for parts and bought another one used. Happy I did. All my sounds transferred. The combination of one knob-one parameter with a Mini-Moog style voice architecture (though it's not sound-alike) 3 oscillators, with PPG wavetables and a creamy Waldorf filter, and some FM capability, and effects that (only?) I really like, is a winner.
2:43 A wise man once said: "I think that's super super cool. I think that's super super cool, and kind of surprising and exiting, because of that because of kind of surprising."
Suzuki lost their effing mind with that pricing. If one's going to spend that much on something like this you might as well get the Folktek version at that point.
Looking forward to you trying the Vanilla synth. It’s going to be my first actual synthesizer. Love the look, history, and of course the sounds. I like that STG is emphasizing that it is an instrument and not a box of modules.
I play a Sradivarius music saw, and I can tell you one crucially relevant aspect of Stylophone's new Theremin unit. It relies entirely on pitch awareness. More-so than even a cello or violin, which have not frets to locate the pitch. The violin forces the listener to depend on his ear along with his finger-memory on the instrument. But with the Theremin or the Musical Saw, there is no physical gauge to hold or follow. In this sense, is very unique among musical instruments. And there it even strengthens ones hearing. Perfect if your are leaning perfect pitch via exercises. And violinists always have great sense of pitch, and are often excellent singers; Just look at blue-grass singer Alison Krauss. An angelic voice but tempered by her violin. Anyway, just had to defend the innocent little Theremin unit here!!! Ha. My performances on the Stradivarius, as well as my theory of Perfect Pitch and my Theory of Pitch Psychology can be found here on my own page here. Cheers! - The Acoustic Rabbit Hole
I’ve been super excited about the Mantis, but the price point is too high. I’ve wished for a while now that Novation would make a Bass Station 3, based potentially on their Peak/Summit architecture (also designed by Huggett). The Mantis seems like it could be this. But at $1350? Oof.
The new Omnichord is calling me. Everything else feels like it has a lot of overlap with other synths on the market and I’m still not sure any of them can dethrone my take 5. But for someone just getting into the synthverse, you’re right, there has been no better time. Thanks for the jorbcast!
Worthy additions would be the Supercritical Redshift 6 and the Carbon if Modal can bring it to fruition ( technically a NAMM 2023 product, delayed by business difficulties)
Please sell Jorb shirts on your store! As in, the logo in the thumbnail for your channel. Also, thanks for all the good times sir. This is one of my favorite shows!
I hope Behringer puts out a clone of the modern day Omnichord. I also still own the King Korg and love the tube in it. Was totally bummed they left it out of the Neo. It totally flavors up my custom presets. After picking up the Opsix for $329.00 a while back, I just felt it was lacking something. I couldn’t quite place it, but it felt soulless to me. Lots of amazing things about it, but I eventually sold it. My Digitone keeps me satisfied when it comes to FM. It was very capable of making some very interesting presets which I got to explore. May pick up the Plugin version of all three. Anyhow, I have to conclude with my desire to see the new micro Korg come out. I’m picturing $599 for it. It’s got some features I wanna see in action. It will be interesting to either see it take off, or fade into obscurity like the KK did of it’s time.
We are living in a wonderful age of synthesisers, where the ordinary mortal can own a unit that way outperforms yesteryear’s multi thousand dollar synthesisers for a few hundred dollars.
Korg should implement their little Kaoss-touchpad whenever they can...but they don't want to, which annoys me, lol. I like that feature so they should implement it more often, it looks great on the ModWav, I would need that on a Minilogue...
Korg didn't learn its lesson with the Mini 700FS nostalgia boondoggle for $2K. Full polyphony for PS is a supreme waste of circuitry, especially since it has preset memory. A 12 or 16 voice version would make more sense. Wait 'til you see the pricetag! I'm guessing $11999.99. It's only for musicians with Bugattis. I can get the Cherry Audio version for $49. This, from a company that finally realized that their keyboards need aftertouch reinstated. I would rather have a reissue of the Mono/Poly with preset memory or a Poly version (wow). Klueless Korg. As always Mr. Jorb, great vids.
Not sure if its gotten better, but fwiw the midi implementation on the old q-chord i have is absolute garbage, and that's after you get it into an even somewhat playable mode (more difficult than you'd think and certainly more difficult than it should be). I think in a perfect world it would be a viable alternative to the new omnichord, but there is a reason there is no Q-chord cult following. That being said, I agree the new Omni price won't fly either.
Didn't Stylaphone build full size synths at one point? I'm glad to see them do something cool. That stupid drum thing was/is terrible. I bought one and ended up giving it to my nephew, It is literally only good for annoying my bro-in law.
My elementary school music teachers played autoharps, and I decided very early that instrument is an abomination. This omnichord looks like it's modeled after the autoharp, and I can't help but recoil. Will I still give it a chance? Hell no. Abomination! Heresy!
I really hate grey and black synths.... blues, oranges and reds for me. The brighter the better. So much better for people watching your show if you have some colour up on stage.
The choice to pronounce KORG Nu-Bass as Nub-Ass is a wonderful moment I’d like to highlight
Isn't that what it's called
New Bass 😂😂😂😂😆😆😆😆. I kinda like NubAss better tho lmao

I didn't know that Stylophone was putting out stuff like that. If they keep that up they may end up being my favorite synth company.
Dude, love your reviews and mannerisms.. Could listen to you all day!

A Chris Huggett synth is certainly worth a look.
That was my personal highlight of NAMM.
Long live the Studiologic Sledge! Having said that, The King Korg was really tempting back then too.(never pulled the trigger though.) Tube, yeah.
Sledge is something I'd love to talk about

This video just popped up on 3/10/24. I wonder there was a delay. I am a subscriber.
Korg PS3300 ... volca.

I was there in '19 also and it was so amazing.
... aiming to return in '25.

would be hysterical if wurlitzer just made a worse ui clone of the arturia plugin instead of doing hardware
My worst nightmare
I collect the Stylophone devices. They are simple and fun and sometimes surprisingly cool.
Got the theremin on order?

1:27 They should have called it a "Theremini".
Doesn't moog already have something called that
Every time I tell my uncle it's NAMM season he freaks out, grabs a bunch of guns and MREs and hides in the bunker he built in '78 for a month. Weird.

Shame about the omnichord pricing, wouldve definitely conisidered it for 500-ish but its far too steep for what it is

I actually mentioned to a buddy that I wondered if a mini would have a more standard polyphony, wish I had mentioned that. Yeah it is excessive
It's on Korg's website that you actually need to be a hedgefund manager to even order one.
I just wanted a new Electribe from Korg, but they decided to release just everything else.
That would go so hard, groove boxes are in
Funny enough i think the MPC keys is kinda cute with its weird form format
The Mod pedals look really interesting. Are they eurorack compatible? Modulation between a guitar and synth would be amazing!
I believe so yes
The Korg PS3300 is gonna be $33,000
You forgot the most interesting announcement imho : the redshift 6. Analogue multitimbral synths are quite rare.
lolol @ nubAss 🤣
