Here is a tip even more for those who are financially challenged. Look for upcoming property tax/sheriff sales. Food stamps buy fruit trees. Pick something you like but others like more. The will sell faster than you can eat them. Start small. The hare doesn’t win the race. Now excuse me, I have 20” of rain to mow for because I need to go buy goats from my neighbors still 😅
My second cousin and his family was outside the courthouse early one cold morning to buy their property, it was an absolute dump, trash everywhere house decaying, 4 trashed out mobile homes lying around, but they got it for cheap enough they paid cash. Then they spent a couple years getting it cleaned up and fixing the house.. But now 5 years or so later they have an ok house, and the property is cleaned up and the shop fixed. Good deal but a ton of work.
My land. They only allow 6 months in a camper. Tight on money. It will take longer to build. Simple. Before 6 months is up. Take the camper to a lake or park for a couple of days and go back. Time is reset. 6 months straight is full-time. Every 4 months. Take a two or more vacation. Until the house is built.
This man has succeeded in his quest. I wonder how many years he been working on his homestead so far. I say so far because it never ends you never finish.
Great honest video. 👍🏻 What you’ve done with “unusable” land is incredibly. And you did it on your own. If others actually want to do similar, they’ll do it. Otherwise maybe they should keep their ugly comments to themselves. 😊 🎉 It’s great to see the beautiful horses thriving!
Thank you!! You are so 15:03 encourageing!! I want to do this soon too..i hope i can start buying your teas and books soon also..im a late bloomer ..70 yrs young.. but I know it can be done! done.Again..Thank you so much
@@victorygarden556 $25 a lawn is reasonable just starting out. $25-$35. If you work hard in high school at this rate, you will have four or $5000 saved up by the time you graduate!
I’m an old lady with 40 acres out of Yucca AZ. I did build a permitted 580 square foot home and a garage. I also have a good well. The problem I ran into trying to have animals is that I couldn’t find anyone to hire to help when I needed to be gone overnight or for a few days. Do you have help or do you only go town for the day?
Heres a tip for people, if you can find a restaurant that workers get a shift meal, then try and get a job cleaning the restaurant after close, 7 days a week 2.5-3 hours a day and a free meal, Thats my second job right now and its cut my food bill down to almost nothing, plus i make 250~ a week.
I love your "I can" attitude and your desire to be out of the ordinary, man. The problem with most people today is that they self defeat themselves by making excuses about why they can't do what they want.
I LOVE this video!🤩So motivational using logic and reason without resorting to "hype"! Just real TRUTH!!! Thank you John!🥰Inspired! The paperwork and permits stuff isn't that bad, it's just a bureaucratic process that needs to be learned step by step, I couldn't agree more! Keep up your GREAT works! 💕

You have come a long way braddah. I really enjoy your practicality. Not to many people think your way anymore. Debt is prison with a fence you build yourself. Aloha
Incredibly inspirational video. Thank you so much for putting it together. So many good points of view. You are 100% right ... the top two 'excuses' are fear of due diligence and actually buying the land. I can see that now. Information is power ... and once you know what your restrictions are, you can plan around them. Once you actually buy the land ... then you're super motivated because it's your dirt, not someone else's. Totally appreciate the diversification points you made for income. Love the video. So grateful
I love you channel man. It was very inspiring. Me and my young family are trying to start a homestead over the next 2 years. I love the good information. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for the information your giving to help others. My first property I purchased at 22, I had nothing. That was MANY moons ago. The point is, if you want it bad enough, sacrifices are worth it. Do your research on the area that you’re looking as far as permitting, right away and road conditions. Thank you John!!
Your brillance amazes me every time I watch your videos! You have taught yourself and all of us a phenomenal array of survival techniques, with a kind and gentle heart. God bless and keep you safe.❤
this video is such a good lesson. Truth is - if anyone else is doing "it", you can do it too. First you have to "want to",and then "you have to try". And we always find what it is we're looking for. If you're looking for "I can't do it", that's exactly what you'll find. But, if you're looking for "how can I", that's what you'll find. Thank you for sharing your results and your want-to's with us!!!
We bought a property site unseen in NE AZ. 5 acres was 10k, but sadly 17k to finance. That was our only option, people were snapping up land at the time. When we finally made our way up there we met with a "neighbor" who clued us in to buying other properties in the area who have lapsed on their taxes. I personally wouldn't do that, since property taxes are a scam and I'm not just going to swipe someone's property out from under them, but it is a legal option. Should we ever make the move, my husband works remotely and we could get star link to support that. In Apache County there are few restrictions if any. No permits required unless you wish to have insurance. We would rely on rain water collection and storage with a filtration system, and a composting toilet that turns your waste into methane gas that can be used in place of Propane. They're pricey toilets, but you don't have to worry about buying gas. We think about it a lot, but with my husband being an only child of a woman with early/mid stage Alzheimers, we're going to be the ones caring for her. Living 4 hours away just isn't going to work right now. Which is sad because I think it's now or never. At the very least, we have a bug out location.
I love all of your points of logic throughout this video. Your videos are inspiring. I found a 10 acre parcel of tax liened land I am considering purchasing and going off grid. I thought it would be expensive to live off grid, but after following your videos, you are convincing me otherwise. Thank you for sharing all of your experience with us!
I'm really diggin' the videos but mostly the lifestyle. I dream about living off-grid and self-sufficient with my wife in Arizona. I'm in the rat race in San Diego but have always been connected to the outdoors and nature, so much so that often times the first thing I do when I wake is to just stand in front of the window and stare outside and daydream, lol. One day, hopefully 🤞. New sub!

If the “work” you do is what you love, it’s really not “work” at all!! I miss having a horse- can’t wait to get property where I can do that, but for now our chickens & garden are definitely off setting food costs for me & my boys & I share with my parents & siblings when I have extra. 🥰 You’re doing a great job man, don’t listen to the haters!!
I love that you're off grid, self-employed and still make a to-do list every day. ♥ Blood, so much sweat and maybe even a few tears and here you are living your wholesome AF best life, my new friend. I was just wondering what you pay in property taxes, so thanks for that info, and for the inspo!
I have 90 acres up in Berkly Springs, Wv. I haven't even messed with the property, was left to me when my dad passed. Has 2 cabins but it was his hunting property. So nothing is cleared besides a small gap where he would bait deer. Lol
Many of the people I know that are very well off don't show it off. Most of them have vehicles around 10 years old. Most dress in modest work clothes. The people driving the newest cars and flashy clothing are usually the ones who are in debt up to their eyeballs and are one mishap from bankruptcy. I make a very good salary, my vehicle is 15 years old and has over 300k miles. That's my newest vehicle too. They run excellent and are doing everything I need a vehicle to do reliably. I'll be debt free by the end of the year and yes I live off grid as well, but in interior Alaska. 🙃

I have one question that could be in your Q&A videos (I apologize if you've answered it before). When you got laid off, how did you handle the existing debts you had (if any). I'm sure it was a huge awakening to get laid off, but keep doing what you do.
My problem was/is the area I want to homestead in is 4,000 miles away… so I’m building out a school bus instead (it’s also frigid-so immediate shelter is wise) and saving money by living in a parking lot. Not the funnest way, especially in the heat (one reason why I want the frigid place) but it is getting me there…. It’s so slow going I want to pull my hair out in frustration bc it’s too hot here for me, but I know I’ll get there eventually.

What was the first job you did when you started the only doubts i have for homesteading is the income did you survive of savings? How did you first make a income?
I'm very interested in doing something like this. how do you deal with the public address situation? since i know the local government doesn't want most people to live permanently out of an RV or a van. but since you dont have a habitable structure on the property, i would imagine you can't say you dwell on the property. I'm just trying to potentially navigate these overly burdensome bureaucracies before making a move. Thanks in advance for sharing
Friend of mine went through this. He lives in an RV and the county wouldn't give him an address. One - he got a PO Box. Two - he uses a relatives address on his documents. Three - he simply made a sign with his lot # and put it out front.
The problem with rescue dogs, at least if you have to go to the pound, is that in order to get a rescue dog you have to sign a paper where they can, at any time, come to your property to check out everything.. Don't like that.
