I shot Nikon for 25 years and wound up testing an R3 against my Z9. I loved the R3 so much, I bought a second one and completely switched over to Canon this past October. I use them (along with an R6) mainly for stills. I shoot sports, events, commercial work, theatre, concerts, just about anything you can think of with these cameras. I agree with you that the R3 is an all purpose camera. Good luck with your channel. I subscribed.
What about the Canon R3 that made you switch from the Nikon Z9? Was it the Z9 autofocus, size, weight of the Nikon Z9, or the eyeball tracking on the Canon R3?
@@jeffkernen1554 I had to ask this because, I have shot Nikon for a little longer than you and that was the reason that I switched after moving to the Z6 system and being disappointed. I had Sony, Nikon and Fuji's mirrorless all at the same time and after about a year, I made the decision to switch and go all in on Sony. The autofocus was key. I traded in multiple Nikon DSLR and the Z6, along with two Fuji Bodies an a ton of Fuji and Nikon glass. It was a two year decision in the making and I'm sure it was probably as hard for you as it was for me, but it was the right thing to do. I didn't know that Nikon still hadn't quite fixed the Z9 autofocus, but I didn't want to take any chances. I did keep my Nikon F4, which I still use from time to time, but our business demanded this move and I have a Sony A7RIII, A7IV, A9 and a A7SIII. I did consider Canon, but because at the time I owned two Sony bodies, the A7RIII and the A7III, and knew the system well, I stuck with Sony, not to mention the GM Lenses. I had been looking for a FX6 since Covid and I just broke down and bought the A7SIII for the time being. We also shoot Blackmagic. My business partner three weeks ago bought a Sony body, which he will use for photography and he will keep the Z6II for videography as a C cam, but he is done with Nikon for now for photography.
@@sidvicious3129 Ya, it wasn't an easy decision to make to switch everything over. One of the first things I did was test the Z9 against the R3 at a volleyball match. I shot with the Z9 for about a minute and shot with the R3 for the rest of the night. There was that much of a difference. And I find the R3 can focus in insanely low lighting. I'm talking situations where my eye can't even see the subject. The electronic viewfinder on the R3 just turns night into day. I can't compare it to anything from Sony though because I don't have any experience with Sony.
After shooting with the Canon R5, I traded it for the R3. As you said, it feels great in the hands, it is better in low-light, and the files are much smaller. I agree that the colors were better after I calibrated the R5. I look forward to R5 MII and R1 once they get released.
Hard to believe, first Subscriber .. awesome Review still in waiting for my R3 .. I'm in Sports Photo- / Videography and Documentary Filmmaking .. thumb's up and Happy new year!
Well everyone starts from zero. Glad to here your enjoying the sports photography, hope the camera arrives soon. Happy New Year and have a gr8 upcoming new year. 🙏🎉
Fantastic video, I have been looking videos for over 3 months now. The Sony a7iiiv, canon r5, canon r6 mark II, Sony a7riv, lumix… and the list goes on and on and I haven’t been able to find video quite like this one. You explain very well what the camera does. I come from shooting with the Sony a6600 and my camera broke down. I’m in the process of selling all my ASPC lenses. Your video gave me some light on what to get. I want to get a final camera body that I will not have to upgrade in at least 3 years. The canon r3 seems a good option, quite pricey. I photograph music festivals and action sports so it seems it would be a great option. Time for me to save up because is a lot of money for a camera
Yes it is pricey, but as i said, here in Australia if you want the grip for the R5 as the battery is a joke in that camera. The combination is more. The R6 only shoots IPB not ALLi. I would suggest hiring the R3 to try.
great video, I own 2 R3 myself and agree with you, the reds are little too much. Have you used your R3 in the rain??? I heard the weather proofing is not that good????
Great video mate. Outstanding camera. Focus is so fast even in almost dark scenarios.

Nice video, I own a few cameras all of them high end and the R3 is my favorite by far. Is the only camera I just can’t stop using.
Glad you liked it and got something out of the video.
R3 ... and loving it !😍
I just got the r3 and love it so far!!!!!! I also have the r6 but I bet I will use the r3 a lot more!!!

@@waynosfotos no problem!
Very interesting and honest review from a Nikon Z9 user and Canon 1dx Mark iii
Glad it was helpful!
I think the R3 has a Flicker detection mode in video if you get flicker when you film video :) its pretty smart.
Just started using the R3. Alot to take in. Still trying to zero in on the AF & the eye detect AF. So far loving the images.
I like to use the boxes, you can also change the size of the boxes to customise them. Or set to whole screen and it will just find an eye. 😊

No not yet, but they did market it as waterproof. Hope so if i need to be in the rain.
like the handgrip wayno, which one is it?
The Joby one 👍
@@waynosfotoscameras seen one only for sony here in Europe...I take it it attaches to the bottom of the camera?
@@PhotoSportiv yeah arcas swiss plate and the strap to the top
R5 no longer overheats. Shot 10 weddings, video. Full 12 hr days. No overheating.
I also live in jamaica, which is way hotter than where you live.
R5 or R5C, which one is better?
I wouldn't buy the R5C unless you are willing to rig it out for video.
I think you would be surprised how hot it gets here. I will admit you maybe hotter on average all year round.
Good to here, do you have any issues with functionality when the battery gets low, heard this and what about high framerates?
What wrist strap is that?
It is Joby one
