This melodrama mystery is a classic. Kar Ling is truly so beautiful and talented. Moreover, what is special is that Lung Kong who normally plays in the part as a villain is actually a good person; the plot is excellent the scenery is remiscent of the lovely old Hong Kong. @blade po I do think the possibility is high that whoever scripted the story for this Cantonese movie had read Sad Cypress authored by Agatha Christie. As to whether the script writer had read the original English version or a Chinese translated one, I have no idea. Yet do note in the 1950s to 1960s Hong Kong, there were many who had attended high school or university during the Nationalist period, i.e., prior to 1949, and could be well versed in English, including the then popular English fictions. Besides, if the background music accompanying the scenes in this and other similar Hong Kong Cantonese movies made in that 50s to 60s era is taken into consideration, there were also some behind the scene music directors who were quite knowledgeable of the then western music.

嘉玲在這電影的衣服及裝扮也很高貴大方！
嘉玲在此電影出是高倣, 自大, 任性的富家女, 演出入型入格. 而江雪時演軟弱女子, 十分令人同情. 但1967年她主演的藍色夜總會, 演技卻十分破格, 片中她是一位賭術精明的女幹探, 龍江在片中我以為他是壞醫生, 但卻是好人. 另黎雯的演出也給人驚喜, 有別她以往演的女工或慈母.
江雪這戲裏簡直第一代玉女掌門人。
終於播放時裝片啊！我本人比較喜歡這類的影片。加上我是嘉玲，南紅，謝賢，丁瑩，朱江和周驄的影迷。還有其他的綠葉演員鄭君棉，譚蘭卿，梁醒波，羅蘭和其他數不盡的優質演員！

先生是高人，我查了英文維基對Sad Cypress的介紹，誠如你所言。有點好奇，這本小說當年已有中譯本嗎?還是有人看了英文原著把它改編成另一個媒介的作品(例如廣播劇)，再被改編成這部電影。

GAR LING IS MOST BEAUTIFUL. SHE AND LAM FUNG ARE STUNNING BEAUTY. BEAUTIES FROM CHINA AND HONG KONG.
容玉意樣貌帶幾分陰險毒辣而她的面部表情又唔会好浮誇，所以这角色她演繹得極神似恰如其分。反之李香琴演奸角，面部表情太浮誇了，像滅絕師太及奸妃角色，令人感覺她演繹得唔係好自然，好似瞪大双眼及瞄嘴瞄舌等...表情好像迫出來。而黃曼梨擅長演繹悪人或蠻不講理角色極神似如悪家婆或者封建/謎信的旧式女人，但不是陰險毒辣嗰隻，有時看黄曼梨演繹飽受封建制度压迫的旧式女性，她又可以將那份受到委屈的悲慘哀傷演繹得淋漓盡致。
上官玉（1978）及李香琴(1986)同樣演繹过滅絕師太，論演技，上官玉比李香琴演繹得更陰險而自然，上官玉指示周芷若(趙雅芝饰)去劍刺張無忌(秋官飾)的一幕，眼神之凌厲，至今令人难忘。

總覺得有些不適合
嘉玲的 高貴美艷 配 謝賢 是 最匹配的 👍

南紅的 小家碧玉型 和周驄 比較匹配 👍
