11'32 slowing down of the tempo of this furious militant protest anti-cop song won Steel Pulse fans in millions or cemented their legendary status back in Africa because that was something that even the Great Bob Marley and his Wailers never done before or any other band of any genre done live before. The total respect and appreciation of Steel Pulse creativity went through the roof. I met King David and Selwyn back stage after a great performances at the Alstoria Waldof at Charing Cross Road and the Forum at Kentish Town about 6years ago but I forgot to ask them how they pulled off such a HUGE impressionable n dramatic spectacle???? Or tell them how it won them a huge fan base all over my country Ghana because they were busy narrating their beautiful experiences in Ghana and buying stuff from my late auntie shop next door to the posh hotel (Adisa) they were staying at. My auntie used to teased me that I will faint if I were in the country then just seeing my favourite band come to town because I used to disturb the whole house Saturday morning with True Democracy cd.
I saw STEEL PULSE Three times at the Brixton Academy in London 1982/84/85. I when with my brother phill and his Rasta friends lan and Neil on All occasions. The best time was the 85 Gig. Nice one one love peace ☮✌.
As an African youth at secondary school during the 80s (Golden era of reggae) Steel Pulse was the band in the shadow of their idol Bob Marley during the mid n late 70s but after Marley untimely death in 81 Steel Pulse blow big in Africa (Ghana) where their: Militancy Blibical costumes Afrocentrism Anti-Apartheid anthems like "Biko" Grizzly furious drumming style Ronnie Stepper tight fat basslines Selwyn Bumbo Brown's easy going organ playing style, Alphonso's stylish percussions plus ultimately the Larger-than-Life Leader King David "Unicorn" "Dread" Hinds U-N-I-Q-U-E silky Golden fluid enchanting melodioys voice plus that serious heavy-duty Unicorn hairstyle like no other Rasta in the entire universe just draw the secondary schools to university students bent on confronting all kinds of colonial mentalities and Western puppets/uncle Toms African Leaders milking their countries dry as they retard the development and the aspirations of the youth. Bob Marley was the Pope But King David n Co were and still are the High Priests of our generations (teenagers of the 80s) in whom together with the likes of uncompromising Burning Spear and Youthful energy of Black Uhuru ghetto-fabolous militant presentation of African, Carribean youth and those within the Diaspora in places like Brixton and others getting harassment or being shot for no reason by the Racist police. Looong live Steel Pulse Black Uhuri Burning Spear. PS: After fighting the SHITSTEM we just chill with the romantic seduction of the one n only Cool Ruler - The Legend Gregory isaacs. May his beautiful soul rest in peace. As the Bible says, 'There is time for everything.'

Unforgettable experience. A hot summer night in Paris and no bills to pay :). I was 16 years old then. And have seen Steel Pulse many times on different continents since. True Masters of the live performance…
I was one of the unfortunates to travel (all the way from West Yorkshire) to the Reading festival in 1983 to see this brilliant band bottled off stage, by some knobhead bikers! 😑 Fortunately I did see them play in Leeds a few years later..
I had this CD, it's an amazing concert. I miss the old days when they played for hours.
big up!
Big up Raspect and Respect Jah Rasta Respect I & i
