    Rose is born in raised in Chicago. So he is forever loved by the city. But he became one of the most beloved players that the game has ever seen at his height. His explosive game was a detriment to his body and he unfortunately suffered many leg injuries that nerfed his prime years before they even began. We had about a 4 year stretch of mvp level play for him and that was really it. He said as still a really good player for some years after but he could never get back to where he was around 2008-2011. Still a fan favorite today but he doesn’t really play much anymore and is more of a veteran presence for different teams he’s on. When he does play he’s still a serviceable role player and he has his big games here and there. He’s on the bench for the knicks mentoring the young guys right now. He is regarded as one of the games what if players who could’ve been an all time great if injuries didn’t get in the way. In bulls history, we had a long decade of terrible teams after jordan’s era ended in 98. Rose was really the first start talent we had since jordan and we quickly became a really good team in title contention for a few years but the injuries, age and trading away rose and a few others pretty much threw us right back into mediocrity again. It’s been nearly a decade since then and we are a back in nba hell. He was our one glimmer of hope for us Chicago fans to the last 25 years. Still sad to this day that it had to end like that.

    DRose was born and raised in Chicago. Then selected number 1 overall by the Bulls after 1 year of college. He became a hometown hero for Chicago becoming the leagues youngest MVP ever at just 22 years old. The next year however he tore his ACL In the playoffs causing him to miss almost 2 years. When he returned he played only 10 games before re injuring his knee. This time a torn meniscus causing him to miss almost another full season. The next year he came back and tore his meniscus again. This time he only missed 20 games and had a pretty good run in the playoffs including that number 1 play. Since then he’s bounced around the league a bit as a successful role player but injuries really took away what could have been. He was only 27 when he left the Bulls and had had 5 major knee surgeries. He’s still in the league most recently signing with the Memphis Grizzlies for this coming season. However he’s always been a shell
    Of what he was earlier in his career due to his knee issues.

    Youngest MVP and the biggest what-if in NBA history - his knee injuries just as he was starting to hit his peak robbed him of what should have been a Hall of Fame career leading a Bulls team that was a legitimate championship contender. He tried for years to work his way back from the injuries but was never the same players. He was almost done with basketball after the Bulls, Knicks, Cavaliers, and Jazz all dumped him. He ended up catching on with the Minnesota Timberwolves under his old Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau, and in 2018 got his first start and dropped 50 points (this game is well worth a watch - one of the most emotional regular season moments ever, right up there with the tributes after Kobe's death). Since then, he's managed to hang around in the league as a veteran leader on the bench. He was back with the Knicks last year but barely played. He recently signed with the Memphis Grizzlies (in the city where he went to college) and should get a chance to play some this year while Ja Morant is suspended to start the season.
    D-Rose is Chicago's own from the west side, and to this day is arguably more beloved in Chicago than Jordan. It was sad the way a loud segment of the fans turned on him when he just couldn't get healthy. But a huge faction of Bulls fans want the team to bring him back before he retires, and want his jersey number retired. Rose was the first true star player the Bulls had after MJ. For a generation of fans who grew up watching Kobe more than Michael, D-Rose is Chicago basketball.

    Play #9 is physically impossible if you stand up right now and try it. he pump fakes a pass so he has to completely reset his core in midair to actually still throw the ball before he lands. D Rose could do stuff athletically that seemed impossible but a lot of it put too much torque on his body.

    • @whodat787
      @whodat787 Год назад

      Finally somebody who understands how impressive that pass is. The ability to jump in the air, fake a FULL TWO HANDED OVER HEAD PASS, and to still have the hangtime and strength to complete another pass to a different guy all before landing on the ground.... It's simply not possible. I have tried it before while hooping and it is simply not possible. And the craziest part about that play is THAT'S POST INJURY DROSE!!! 😂😂 That's not even peak athleticism Derrick Rose!
      I have never seen that play from anyone else on a basketball court and I don't think any other NBA player has ever even been capable of making that play. I think a few players have possessed the hangtime like Gerald Green and Vince Carter, but they don't have the passing instinct to complete that play. Ja Morant may have the hangtime and passing ability, but I don't think he has the upper body strength necessary to complete that play. Michael Jordan is the only other player who I believe could possibly pull that play off as impressively as Rose did it. But even then, I've never seen him do it so I could be wrong

    He was amazing. MVP. That dunk on Dragic, he hits his shoulder on the backboard, his head is probably at the rim, absurd for someone of that height. At the time he had a 40" Vertical (that's without a running start of even 1,2 step to gather, just straight off the ground). Shame the Bulls organization forced him back from his knee surgery... he could still be an elite PG today. Feel bad for Chicago fans, they found an absolute brilliant PG. He was unstoppable at his peak, but you gotta let a man's ACL heal.

    There is a lot of players with athleticism in the nba but rose was different. He had the speed,power, agility, and finesse all in one. Unfortunately that style of play may have contributed to his injuries

    D Rose is a Top 3 ALL TIME Bulls Player. . Youngest MVP in league history & one of the most athletic PG’s of league history. Post Injury D Rose dropped 50 points while on the Timberwolves. . He still possesses the skill he had in his younger years but his Athleticism took a hit due to the leg injuries. Chicago born and raised. . Chicago loves D Rose and he will get inducted into the Hall Of Fame

    For a football equivalent, I'd liken him to a Goetze or Pato. Was one of the best atheletes in the world. Showed incredible promise (rose even won an MVP). But ultimately, injuries had done them in. He's one of the bigger "what ifs" in NBA history

    This made me kind of sad. When D Rose was at Memphis, and then those first few years in the league with the Bulls, he was one of the most compelling guys I have ever seen. He could do just about anything. It was kind of left out of this video, but he was a hell of a passer too. Yes he was a scorer, but was a classic PG as well.

    You guys are right that Rose is a relatively short 6'3". Still, he was one of the all-time great rim attackers in league history. Unfortunately his jumping ability was seriously impacted by his ACL injury. He was the league's youngest-ever NBA MVP at age 22 and it would have likely been the first of many if not for the injury. While he peaked very early, he has managed to defy the odds and continue to have a solid career as a role player.
    To answer Damo's question, the Bulls during this era were very good and one of the strongest teams in the East. They were a very tough, physical team with Rose being joined by Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer, Taj Gibson and other strong role players. They never made the Finals however as this was also the era of the "Heatles" (LeBron, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh).

    @DNReacts Just a little bit more context. Rose was the youngest player to win MVP in the history of the NBA and he had the Bulls in contention for a title for a few years until he had a horrible ACL tear that completely derailed his career. He is still playing now, has been a role player off the bench for the Knicks for a few seasons and I believe he just signed with the Memphis Grizzlies for this upcoming year... He has never been quite the same since his injury though

    Rose's story makes me sad because he pretty much got hurt before he could ever fully grow as a player. He got injured right after his MVP season (only 3rd year in the NBA) and was never really the same player again. A lot of what made him so good was his incredible athleticism and quickness, and the injuries took that away.
