And I'm a slow learner...everyone have their own capability...

Yup - I don't focus on problem areas, and I don't challenge myself, and I use a device to tell me if I am in tune or not (I don't use my ears enough). Good tips that really shine a light on bad habits.

Hi Edward, I recently started using a tuning device as I struggle to know when I am not exactly in tune. I am confused now. I feel that I was practising a lot, but out of tune without knowing. 😩 what should I do? How can I manage this. I am playing nearly 4 years.

I've had four months of practice and put in a lot of effort to master Russian Fantasia No. 2 by Leo Portnoff... What a mistake... It was too hard and actually a waste of time! Next month will mark one year of practice for me, and I'm now working on the Rieding Concerto Op. 35 (THANKS TO YOUR RECOMMENDATION !). It's my new favorite piece, and I can actually play it! (Though with a few intonation issues... lol.)

I used to play violin ages 7 through 20 and then took a 32 year hiatus. Ouch! When I started playing again I had major problems with neck pain and had to go to a physical therapist. Julia has a video on stretches which is amazing and has helped me a lot. I use them after each practice section. I take frequent breaks, using a timer, to make sure I take them and then move around during the break. This also helps. Good luck! Getting older definitely has it's challenges. 😊

The critical mistake I made was learning songs straight away instead of following a gradual course. Once I started from ground 0 and practised using Paganini book 1, I significantly improved in a few weeks. I think it would make your channel very popular if you started a series of videos taking beginners through a course of your choice. You are doing great anyways, thank you Julia!

Thank you for this. One of the reasons I'm not improving, is that I have problems with different types of techniques, but don't know the best ways to train them/do exercises or songs that improve them. I have a teacher though, will ask her after corona isolation is over. Have played for one and a half years now.
You're videos are always excellent, I really enjoy them. Especially this one, when I'm feeling like I'm stuck even though I play at least an hour a day.
Also the feeling of 10 different things that I know I don't play correctly and knowing that learning them takes forever is really draining, at least for me.
Thats my thoughts, thanks for the video and all of the best!

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and experience! ❤️ Glad to hear that you are making the best of a bad situation during these trying times and have continued to move forward with your violin learning. Thanks again for sharing and all the best as well!

5 reasons why you don't see results
    1. You don't practice
    2.You waste practice time
    3. You don't listen when you play
    4. You don't challenge yourself enough
    5. You practice pieces that are too difficult

I play the piano and i rly can say that your vid was still helpful. I like challenges and so no 5 applies to me a lot. My fingers are slow and so instead of training those i just pick a piece because i get frustrated. I know i am supposed to practice techniques because they'll make a piece easier but still it's so nerv wracking playing exercises for months straight because your fingers are too weak.

    • @Violinspiration
      @Violinspiration  5 лет назад +4

Mm, hard to say, but I'll try: challenging would be that you could feel confident playing a measure in tune in 30 min of practice, too difficult would be that you're practicing for 3 hours and didn't even master 1 measure of the song.
