The one car Chevy really took pride in building. I just wish they didn't delete the special things about it for later years such as side turn signals, adjustable pedals, and the best thing of all, the awesome speedometer cluster.
It's been a little while, but I upgraded my speedometer cluster to the nice glowy gauges. But unfortunately unless you can find someone to reprogram it with the correct mileage, your odometer will remain frozen at whatever is from the donor vehicle. However, you can actually disassemble your cluster and just swap in the black faceplate from the other cluster as the only difference is that there is a translucent background on these clusters from 2008-2009, no special lighting. Just need to use two spoons to remove the needles carefully, and then you can just take out that faceplace and put the other one in, reassemble, reinstall, and enjoy!
Haha, I know what you mean by "oh snap" handles. I traded my Malibu in because of transmission issues and bought a 2014 Impala Limited which does have the handles you mention. I believe it also has the rear armrest in which you can put your drinks in as well. The engine is basically the same as the one in this Malibu except it's a few revisions different, I love it. But there are certainly a few more benefits to owning an Impala over a Malibu as far as features go.
@@ViperJay5 Haha definitely. I'm sorry to hear about the transmission troubles you had with you 'Bu, but on the plus side as you indicated, the Impala is a definite upgrade! Our 2012 Malibu seems okay, but I noticed the transmission likes to stay in gears and is very hesitant to upshift in certain situations. According to Consumer Reports, that was a common problem with GM's 6-speed automatic. Back to your Impala, the car is huge yes? How does the seat Comfort compared to your Malibu? In my opinion, the seats in the 08-12 Malibu aren't very comfortable at all for long trips.
Let me tell you this. I work in two different private practices...if that matters to you...and I own a Malibu LTZ V6. I love the car and would choose it above any Accord, no matter the engine. It's the fastest in it's class and has given me zero trouble. Buy it and enjoy.
i love american cars, the shit part is that here in central amerca, maintainance for american cars and some europeans are really xpensive that's why many people choose japanese and korean cars here
For some reason I've always liked this generations of midsize FWD GM sedans, along with the Saturn Aura and Pontiac G6. I got to drive a 2011 Malibu LTZ back in the spring and it was a pleasant surprise to see how nicely it drove.
I just bought a 2012 LT which is mostly the same car with the 2.4L 4. I love it. Best car I've ever had. GM had a real winner with this one. Great review, Kyle, as always.
we had an exact spec to the vehicle in this video since it was brand new, sadly my mother traded it in on a 2013 Ford Explorer in 2013. She was sad to see it go and wished she would've kept on to it for a little longer, so I think you're going to love this vehicle.
I’ve been watching your videos for many years!! And I’ve had several different vehicles but I was always bummed that you didn’t have reviews of any of the cars I had. And now I have a 2012 malibu lt, not a Ltz but this car is a lot like mine and I’m so excited to be watching this
I was going to buy that generation Malibu. I have driven different trims of this type of Malibu at my old job as a porter from LS trim to LTZ trim and I loved it. Now I regret buying a 2012 Civic Coupe.
I've always loved the look of this car but chose an 08 fusion SEL V6 after doing some research. The Malibu has too many issues my friend just got one and it just randomly lost power while driving. The fusion has a great reliability rating and its roomier.
My fiancé had a 2006 Malibu and it was a total POS. This Malibu has an awesome interior. Love that. After her experience, I'd never buy one tho. Great review Kyle!!
Wow this model is way different then the one of years ago. The interior color scheme is real nice with luxury appointments and designs that come in a much more expensive Style of car . Very surprised this particular Malibu is a beauty !
I have a 2012 LT, silver with black interior. The wood-grain trim shown on the LTZ is matte silver on the LT. I agree with you that the silver and black is better looking, at least to my taste, but there is no need to be rude about it.
Stunning new design. I definitely like this car. Much improved on the previous model. I like how the tail lights light up the whole housing, kind of a neat feature. One thing though, some of the shots were rather dark. Only complaint I got, LOL.
I really don't know why people hate this car so much. That red jewel is beautiful color and it's a pretty good performer for what it is. They could improve the interior quality a bit by replacing some of that plastic with leather but the unique design is there. I'd take one for a test drive.
I agree I have learned however that gm used the same bose speakers in the back for the modern malibus sp if u need that they are everywhere for like 50 a piece but as for front ones I've looked everywhere and they do sell them its jsit very hard to tell the difference.
Meh, not really come to think of it. One intake gasket over its life of (226,000 miles or 363,711 kilometers) and of course the usually stuff like oil changes and a couple sets of plugs and wires. I think I replaced a coil not too long ago. My A/C still works after 16 years too! Yay! I use my A/C every day in the summertime. Other than those simple things, my 3100 along with my 4T40E transmission still pushed my car to 60MPH in under 9 seconds(A/C off, level ground, and it's not 100*F outside lol)
OnStar is a GM product, OnStar was coined back in the late-90s, and its headquarters is currently housed at the GM buildings in Detroit. and yes there been many copies from Ford's Microsoft sync, to blue link by Hyundai. And yes I'm sure Toyota is trying to do the same thing. Because as of now the patents ran out.
@MrTravis779 You don't get what I'm saying. A system similar to OnStar existed long before OnStar itself. And yes, GM did have some innovations. But I don't see how they're even near Mercedes. First cars to have blind spot / lane keeping assist. First cars to have keyless go, first cars to have sat nav, first cars to have air bags, first cars to have adaptive cruise control. First car to have a 'pre safe' system that detects accidents before they happen and breaks by itself.
This car looks sweet , I'm actually thinking about trading in my 2008 Ford focus for a 09 Malibu ltz . I like the extra space and the way the Malibu looks .
For this kind of car the original price probably would have been about about 22-24 grand. I know for a fact that these cars never costed above 30. Today it would probably be 15-18 grand seeing how it is now a used car.
We have been in the car business for over 40 years. And a lot of things were shared, How do you think idea's started. the big three started a lot of things that we have today that all of us take for granted. I am not staying they started it all, but the big three did a lot of it. And not just car technology either. Look it up
you ever notice that most newer GM cars dont have lights in the floor like all the 90s early 00s....I know thats not a big deal but i like when they lit up easier to see in the floor at nite if u drop something lol..
I have a 2009 malibu LT. It's a nice car, but the 4 cylinder in mine is sooooo slow. I wish it was a V6, but it's my first car, so I can't complain. The only other gripe I have is that I'm 6'4 and have trouble getting under the steering wheel, even with it raised as high as it will go. I have that problem in most cars though, so unless I want to buy a truck, I really can't do anything about it. Lol.
@ilovecars1996 who ever said they dont? ltz models come standard with an 8 speaker premium bose sound system and its available as an option in other malibu trims

@7477238 Also, the DTS is not the Caddy flagship, that would be the CTS-V Coupe. In addition, a new flagship is coming, something slotted above the new XTS. See the Cadillac Ciel Concept for more details.
My grandparents had one as a rental and I hated it with a passion. Everything felt cheap and hollow and the car was slow. Not to mention it was pretty ugly.
@Cuseball121 I don't car what you say about Chrysler, they are my favorite American car company with Ford right behind them. They have some gorgeous new cars out right now and have really stepped it up the past few years. I've seen the stats about them being the slowest moving RIGHT NOW but that has got to change. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee is the most awarded SUV on the market today, the 200 is a huge improvement over the Sebring, the Challenger & Charger are beasts, and the 300 is stunning!
@ratmtbola When GM restyled the Caprice and such for 91, they were some of the leaders for safety innovations with standard ABS and passenger side airbag. Also, Kyle's Roadmaster had best in class power back in the day with the LT1 V8 in it and it's seats were designed by orthopedic specialists. As far as new cars, the all new Chrysler 300C has Radar-Guided Cruise Control which I've never seen on any other car. It seems to me you don't pay attention to what he points out in the American cars.
@StuntDoubleTheatre I hope they do too. I have noticed that Dodge has always had better ratings than the Chrysler brand has and that is weird. For how nice they made the new cars, they had to have made them more reliable. They came out with the new 3.6L Pentastar V6 to replace the terrible 2.7L V6 used in the Sebring. I've read mostly positive reviews about the HEMI V8 so hopefully their reliability will be there unlike before. Honda is my favorite foreign car too, legendary reliability there.
@ratmtbola example the first electric car mass-produced. It didn't last because times were different. the first V-8 with cylinder deactivation, and OnStar which has been proven to save many lives. And Cadillac was the first to put night Vision, started in 2000. on the Deville. Mercedes started in 2004. and the technology was started by the Military for nighttime combat.

On the other hand, some of the northern states, might be easier to handle, if your dialect is of a quicker pace. I might have that reversed.
@MrTravis779 I didn't say CTS V. I said the Cadillac CTS with the 3.6 DI motor, the one producing 304 HP. It had loose handling and the engine in combination with the 6 speed auto still felt very lazy. A BMW 328i feels far more refined mechanically and handles sharper and despite being less powerful makes better if what it produces. Like I said in my earlier post the Cadillac was well equipped though.
@@Anonymous-ji4sb A gear band in the 6-speed transmissions on the 3.6 would disintegrate, causing its residue to go into the gears and basically destroy it. However, in 2015 GM did - after many MANY complaints on all models that used this powertrain - offer special coverage to those who experienced this issue. It happened to our 2007 Aura at 66K miles in early 2014. We paid to have the trans rebuilt and then sold it to CarMax, having bought a new 2015 Regal. GM at first paid for half the cost, then later (after the special coverage recall was announced) recompensed us for the other half.
The 2nd and 3rd generation Malibu was the best, the current 4th gen isn't so great it lacks a lot, especially rear legroom which is key to a mid-size sedan. The 5th gen that debuted looks more promising.
@StuntDoubleTheatre I've noticed that Chrysler vehicles seem to be so neglected by some owners. It's weird but they seem to be the most common cars that are neglected. It's also weird that Dodge is rated higher since Chrysler makes that brand and they usually share engines. I'd be sold too since I'd love to have a 300C as my next car. I am that impressed with it. If the right people own them and maintain them like they are supposed to, getting them to that mileage shouldn't be a problem.
This car has always grabbed my attention on the road. Few cars do. I love the simplistic boxy styling.

It might be easier for you to learn, with him being Southern. We speak a little slower down here, in these parts.
On the other hand, some of the northern states, might be easier to handle, if your dialect is of a quicker pace. I might have that reversed.
Im about to get this same car.... any things i should lookout for?
This gen Malibu isn't that bad surprisingly unlike all the other gens; if you get the ltz and v6
Itheman123456789 True. However I did like the hot 06-07 Malibu SS.
4 videos in 24 hours wow!
@Tradizzl3 BMW doesn't make a v6. It's called an inline 6 & yes the inline sound is different than a v engine design
NIce car but...... ¿Does it have overheating problems like the older generation Malibu´s?
It's a very eye catching car. Is it four wheeled drive?
The 2nd and 3rd generation Malibu was the best, the current 4th gen isn't so great it lacks a lot, especially rear legroom which is key to a mid-size sedan. The 5th gen that debuted looks more promising.
Kristoff Kristoffersun This is the seven gen malibu
+Kristoff Kristoffersun The 5th gen is 97-03(04 and 05 classics), hardly new.
+Aaron Kimmel all bad.
@saabkyle04 what is the thing that looks like a soap dispenser on the drivers side backseat window? I see them on dealership cars all of the time now?
the transmission on the 2008-present Chevrolet Malibu
Transmission
6-speed 6T70 automatic
6-speed 6T40 automatic
4-speed 4T45 automatic
@falaqdad15 That's because Corolla is a practical car, which almost every man with different standard of living can afford.
