Is your BMW telling you the hood is open and beeping annoyingly while you drive even when its fully latched? Recently installed a carbon fiber hood and experiencing this issue? Regardless, if you're confident your hood is properly latched and you're still getting this warning this fix is for you!
I will say the easiest way to fix this is most likely to just replace the latch which can be found at OEM BMW sites for under $100. I can't confirm this will fix it but it appears that the sensor/micro switch was irreparably damaged on my car and was no longer working.
If you're in a time crunch, or simply don't care to replace the micro switch this fix will work for you and it's easy to do. You need a 7.5K resistor that you run through the sensor. If you want to make it permanent, do something similar as shown in the video.
Let me know in the comments if you've experienced this issue and if this fix works for you!
Bro you a genius and I love you. That chime has been so annoying for weeks and this worked perfectly on 428i gran coupe
Haha glad it helped you out man! It drove me crazy for a bit too
Do it say Engine bay hot
Tried this on my dad's 5 series 2015, identical mechanism to the video, and IT WORKED!!! Thank you!
What wattage resistor did you use? I am seeing them mostly in 1/4 watt some in 1/2 watt
@@larrythechipman 7.5k. It's measured in ohms though
@@graemehindshaw4221thanks, I’m aware it’s 7.5k ohms but they come in different watts - are you able to share a link to the one you bought please?
@@larrythechipman I didn't buy, I work in an engineering company and I just paid a visit to the electronics guys.
@@graemehindshaw4221 OK mate no worries thank you. I’ve bought a couple of different ones in any case
Thank you Guys … I had a similar issue with my F30 and the mechanic said the issue is with the sensor and must be replaced . I googled for the 750 k resistor which would be a difficult search but luckily I got one within minutes from where I stay in Kuwait . Had to get this job done by an Indian auto Electrician . I showed him this video and Bingo … it was done in 10 minutes flat . Thanks again.
I found this problem and discovered the hood part of the latch the ring attached to the hood was not unscrewed far enough to push the switch . Only took a couple turns. The switch is attached to the black part of the hood latch not the silver hook part.
I have struggled with hood alarm on my F31 for over several months. After watching your video with a friend, he pulled out a R32 resistor from an old circuit board and voila!
That’s good news man! I’m glad this helped someone 🙏🏻
Great to know about your procedure for bypassing the micro switch by using 7.5K Ohm resistor. Do you think this will work for BMW X3 2012 model?
This is the exact video I was looking for , thanks!!
Awesome, worked for me, BMW 320 M-Sport, 2015
Yoo you know what wattage resistor you used? 7.5k but what wattage?
I have the same issue but resistors are not working would I mess anything up if I just connected the wires to each other
Mine went away but now it's showing a check engine light
I tried the 7.5 k ohm resistor, but it didn’t work. I was thinking that I damaged the resistor heating the shrink wrap; but I guess I’ll try doubling it first. If that doesn’t work I’ll buy just the switch and throw a zip tie on it.
try 10k
Worked great for a 2015 335i apprentice it man
What wattage resistor did you use? I am seeing them mostly in 1/4 watt some in 1/2 watt
How many watts should the 7.5k resistor be?
How exactly did you manage to get the sensor out?? I have a 2013 328i and I can’t seem to figure out how to get to it.
He doesn't get the sensor out, he cuts the wires near to it. Watch the video
ive been driving with my bmw chiming for months, hope this fixes it!
Lmk, nobody ever comes back to tell me if what worked for me also worked for them 😅
What happens if I only bypass the cables from the switch?
What if this doesn’t work on a 320i 2015 ? I got the 7.5 but it’s still say it’s open😢
Z4e89 would this be same
Can you please tell me how many volts the 7.5 kilo ohm resistor was?
What color? And how many resistors did you use?
Did you figure this out? If so, can you let me know please, I have the same issue and about to purchase some resistors
Did you had to solder the resistor to cables??? Did you had to solder every single resistor you tried 🤔
No, you just wrap them around each other. And then once we found the right level we used electric tape and wrapped it
I fucking love you bro I owe you dinner if you’re ever in San Diego
Hahah glad it helped you bro 🙏🏻
I have a stuck hood after doing an intake mod on my F06... Super frustrating. I've searched and very limited info. I've tried everything I've seen and could think of... How did you get your hood unstuck? Mine is only stuck on the driver's side and from what I can see, it looks like the cable is still intact. My window of vision is only thru my front grille. I've tried removing the wheel well liners, but that didn't give me access... Sorry for the long comment..I'm lost...lol. Any suggestions?
With mine the left front side of the hood was able to open very slightly. I bought a thin gardening hook from Micheals and slid it under there and had a friend look through the hood vent to tell me when I had it hooked around the latch. From there I pulled and moved it while having my friend press the hood open button and eventually it popped. It was wild 😂
Hey, where do you buy 7.5 ohm resistors and will a 10 ohm resistor work..??
Amazon
@@TheAftermarket1 Thankx..!!
Whyd you stop recording videos 😢
I ended up selling the M240i, got an E36 M3 that I did a supercharger build the last year and just bought an FD RX7 Type R. I might start making videos again soon!
@@TheAftermarket1 what was the reason u sold it. Oh wow sounds like a pretty fun build
@@gamingwithaiden9751 got tired of new cars that feel numb and are just for straight line speed. Wanted to get back into raw, good handling cars
Same problem with my BMW...I tried with various resistors...I will try with 7.5k ohms
Any luck with the 7.5k ohm resistor? If so, what wattage was it? I am seeing them mostly in 1/4 watt some in 1/2 watt
@@larrythechipman It didn't worked for me and still had to deal with the same issue. 7.5K ohms in 1/2 and 1/4 didn't work for me...do let me know if you find a fix.
Hey where can I get the resistor from to do it
I ordered a pack of various resistors off Amazon and tried a bunch till I found one that worked
would it work on 2018 320i xdrive??
If it uses the same latch system yeah it should
Hey, what did you use to wrap the wire after you put the resistor on?
Electrical tape 👍
@@TheAftermarket1 okok, that's what I got but wasn't sure. Thanks bro!
Heat Sink

Im currently having this issue on my F32, I'm not knowledgable enough with resistors and electricity. If I just change the hood latch part should that do the trick or is the sensor not in the hood latch but seperate?
I’m having this issue rn bro what did you end up doing to fix it?
@@giovannicarranza3802 i fixed it. Bought a resistor and just connected each end to it. And it worked.
@@giovannicarranza3802 resistor 7.5kohm or 10k try both whatevr works. and electrical tape to wrap itS
@theaftermarket - I tried using 7.5k ohms in my BMW but it didn't work. I think it differs in all models. BMW doesn't reveal the exact number. I will keep trying and update.
How did you get on in the end? I am about to buy a 7.5K ohm resistor for my 2016 M135i
@@larrythechipman didn't work for me...
Do you have Instagram or Facebook? Going to be attempting this today and not too experience with anything like this and I Dont want to accidentally cut the hood release cable or anything. I may just need your help so I do it properly I will also pay for your lunch if your able to help out. Thanks man!
Car is F32 2014
Bro, this worked only a week and now the "hood open error" is back ... Do you have maybe some new ideas how to fix it?
Not really, I never had the issue again after this fix so I didn’t keep trying to fix it haha
well, thx for the answer @@TheAftermarket1
Another way, you don’t need to use resistors. All you have to do is just take out the sensor from the hood latch. And plug-in the wires you don’t need to cut them just take out the sensor and it should be a little black thing with a silver thing that push down. Just take it out and plug the sensor back in harness and the light will turn off
That doesn’t work either unfortunately, mentioned in the video we tried everything from leaving it unplugged, cutting the wire, detaching the actual sensor in the latch. The only way to close that loop and knock the error message off was through the resistor.
@@TheAftermarket1 worked for me 🤷♂️ I literally just did it right now and it worked
@@baby_themacaw2592 oh it’s probably because my sensor was completely dead. I had sprayed WD40 to try and get the latch unstuck when the hood was stuck closed. The sensor was showing no current when tested before this fix
measure the resistance of the switch.., put in a potentiomitor and increase until silence..
??o?o?? ?
This is probably the worst video i've seen in a couple of months.
Decide what you're going to say before you start recording.
I'm happy for the information but boil boy it was hard getting there
I am not responsible for your inability to follow along during a 4 min video 💀
Hey bro do you have Instagram where I can message you?
