Fun fact: in the online book that the printed books were based off of, Greg’s best friend was a boy named Ben before Ben moved away at some point prior to the series. Ben is completely absent from the printed books.
It would actually be interesting if Riley slowly isn't appearing as much due to Greg himself not hanging out with him as much. The friendship slowly drifting away. It does happen alot irl
That was the last Wimpy Kid book with peak Rowley usage, and also the last Wimpy Kid book that was exceptionally great (in my opinion). Not a coincidence.
@RealMadridAndArsenalFan He did have some appearances there, but Rowley mostly just appeared later in the book. Also that Wrecking Ball didn’t really have any Greg hanging out with Rowley together. Idk, just like Rowley didn’t feel like Rowley in Wrecking Ball
To be honest I haven't been a fan of Rowley since books 7 and 8, but I still think it's unfortunate that Greg's friends/classmates from the earlier books aren't included much in the series anymore. Greg's family members are now the supporting characters, but I don't want family drama to take over the entire series.
I would say this is intentional to lead up to some sort of awkward phase between them seeing how they always tried to predict when their friendship might end but i don’t think Jeff Kinney made that intentionally
I had a similar thought, like I could see Rowley wanting to distance himself from Greg for whatever reason. Maybe his parents' warnings about Greg being a bad friend finally got to him or something. Though, yeah, I'm not sure if this was intentionally the reason.
The books went from stories of different aspects of greg's life to the entire books revolving around "greg and his family having outlandish adventures"
@@nouradrouby4690interpretation is massive, when I was a kid and I read the books, I didnt notice the torture that Rowley had to go through but now Im a teen reading them again and I can see the abusive behaviour in broad daylight..
True, but there was that one time in Rodrick Rules where Rodrick was giving Greg and Rowley drum lessons, which kind of foreshadowed something like that happening.
Rowley was the best part of the series if he is gone Greg did him in. Also if the book actually made Greg grow up and go to high school the books would get better
A diary of a wimpy kid without Rowley is like Ice age without Sid or Manny. Or like Scooby Doo without Shaggy. Then again, the series has been going on for over a decade and a half. Things are bound to change in that amount of time.
That is sad. This franchise seems to be a gradual story & Greg is seeing his BFF less. I wonder if Greg can grow up even more. Where's Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid?
I cant believe Jeff said his favourite character was Rowley, he starting to disappear a bit after book 14
Exactly. Rowley barely appears now. And I really miss him. Maybe Jeff will give him the spotlight again.
His only role was that he would be going to different schools in book 18..? (I lost count 😭)
There's more than 10 books?
@The_Vagabond1 there's about to be 20 . _ .
Rowley moved schools from Greg at the end of No Brainer.
I once saw someone say “rowley has become a stan lee cameo”
I saw someone say that aswell
Rowley has appeared in only one page per book, to prove that, Rowley was literally in one page in the long haul
guess that makes him a one page wonder

I guess they wanted to depict Greg as lonely
This guy with manny photo profile is funny bcs I do the same 😭

Glad none of my friendships happened like that
The last book that had lots of Rowley was The Meltdown and that was in 2018

He had a decent amount of plot in The Wrecking Ball but after that he just disappeared

Chirag Gupta and Alex Aruda are a couple of those characters who have definitely been absent for too long.
The family drama also isn't realistic or relatable anymore. It just seems to get wackier and wackier into gag level territory.
@TheShortwaveShowdon’t forget penny, im boutta stop buying these books if it’s switching to family drama-esc stuff
Rowley is the one character that we all hate, but can’t live without.
Well, no, but actually yes.
I still think of “Old School” and “The Long Haul” as the new ones. How many of these books are there these days?
Like 18 or 19
@BlouePickdMan16
19
19, 21 if you count the Rowley diary’s
no, it would be 22
I would say this is intentional to lead up to some sort of awkward phase between them seeing how they always tried to predict when their friendship might end but i don’t think Jeff Kinney made that intentionally

That's why the older books were better; they were more relatable.
I agree with everything you've mentioned. Rowley really needs more attention. Great video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed!
My friend is disappearing 😢
Bruh do you remember all the bad stuff you did to him?
@SillyMarioFilmsit should’ve stayed ugly truth (I do like thier friend ship but honestly Greg’s kinda abusive to rolled in his diary’s)
Rowley*(typo

The last time he really mattered was like Double Down or something stupid
He will join Holly and Chirag in the gang
I wish those 2 never disappeared, such good characters, especially in the movies.
rowley wast in the band cause he said in his journal that his mum wont let him over cause rodrick swears
True, but there was that one time in Rodrick Rules where Rodrick was giving Greg and Rowley drum lessons, which kind of foreshadowed something like that happening.
@TheShortwaveShow oh i forgot about that

I miss rowels
Rowley
@lancys_27rowels
Ah yes, rowels
rowels is my favorite too
i love rowels
Cabin fever and Old school was my last wimpy kid book then I gave up on the series
The quality isn't the same it used to be, but I still find each book entertaining enough to give it a read.
Rowley cant disappear!
Most certainly not.
Rowley is one of the most pure-hearted people in the series. I BETTER HEAR THAT HE IS GETTING RECOGNITION AGAIN
A diary of a wimpy kid without Rowley is like Ice age without Sid or Manny. Or like Scooby Doo without Shaggy.

Why does bro look like that one guy from "fast times at ridgemont high"
Havent all the characters have been disappearing ?
That is sad. This franchise seems to be a gradual story & Greg is seeing his BFF less. I wonder if Greg can grow up even more. Where's Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid?
I thought i was the onlyone who noticed that!
0:10 *Dragon Ball, Z, Super, in my opinion of course
Wdym he doesn't appear a lot in no brainer he has like 3 mentions and 1 or so illustrations
Bro rowley is appearing every time even if it is getting low it will be mentioned at least once!
