Egg and chick sound like they go with the rank titles, egg being the starting title (absolute beginning noob) chick being just going into the world and catching pokemon, etc.
Or just a single type water since it is a fish? Because it is stronger does not mean it's type would change. The "newer" Magikarp would still have the dual typing even if it evolved. Unless it is a regional thing.
I feel like slowly we'll be seeing most of those Pokémon in their revised forms. It has been so long and we are well on our way to 1000 Pokémon (which is crazy!) and with the rise of the Internet and people sharing all of this knowledge, I'm pretty sure we'll be seing references or revisions of these creature some time in the future! Awesome video Hoops!
The "failure" resulting from forced evolution attempts on Magnezone could be the cause of Meltan? Much like the "Mew clone experiments created Ditto" theory
You're assuming there was going to be a legendary on the cover of Silver. Gen 2 was the first to have cover legends. They could have originally planned on putting the starters on the box again with ho-oh being a hidden legendary like mewtwo.
this is a good point. We don't really have any reason to think the story in GS originally had Lugia in it at all. the box art may have been a last-minute change from using the starters on the cover.
The romhack "Pokémon Adventures: Red Chapter" has tons of betamon, fakemon, fusions, and more in it. The creator even made primal versions of the other legendaries along with Pokedex entries.
If the two ghosts, evolved into girafferig, then evolved into that other leaked version when the other half is whole like catdog that's normal/ghost would of been one of the most unique Pokémon ever made and I definitely would of used it, instead of just catching girafferig and never ever, ever using it even one time
I imagine it like this. A normal type Giraffe pokemon egg was actually a pair of twins. One was more developed and absorbed the dying sibling trying its very best to survive, it got to see one glimpse of sun before tragically dying. Its soul, still conjoined with the other sibling desperately clung to life and emerged as a ghost type pokemon. It the goes on to possess a baby unknown Giraffe pokemon, but cannot completely do so with the other half of its soul so it mutates. The evolved form is a final culmination of the possession. Much like a parasect the host body has died out. It's eyes are milky white and the remnant of the the underdeveloped twin looks like a popped balloon on the tail. Its jaw is dislodged and you can see the ghostly spirit of the developed twin in agony where the tongue uses to be.
The pic at timestamp 11:51 could be a mock up done by an Pokémon fan artist for the purpose of this video. I know Hoops has had those done for other videos in the past.
@@BlackMaleLion Right, no, I understand that. It's just that particular mock up looked a lot like a fusion-mon. Not saying that's a bad thing, just a random comment. :)
Theory: could there be Pokemon that have actually devolved? Like if Magikarp used to be stronger and it's evolution is already strong, does that mean that some Pokemon could have also had this reverse effect that then evolve into their stronger counter parts? It's a stretch but that would be an interesting thing to ponder
It's pretty obvious the "Egg" and "Chick" text strings, when viewed in conjunction with the other titles appearing just after them, are part of a ranking system. Possibly early ideas for something like the Battle Tower which didn't make it into Gold and Silver.
That silver lion-dog one does seem like it could have been the original Silver legendary. Fits more with the towers than Lugia does as lion-dogs protect temples and such.
@@marhawkman303 Yeah. It's because Lugia was created as an anime exclusive. Kind of wish that they had kept the silver dog and just made Lugia a mythical.
I’d love it if the original form of Magikarp was a single stage Water/Dragon type Pokémon. Like a reverse of Corsola. If there had to be an evolution, I’d want it to be a dragon/flying type.
2:18 Could people _stop_ saying that Legends Arceus is set "in the distant past" because being set during Sinnoh being settled in, the existence of tiled roofs and the fact that it's not in isolation doesn't quite allow so much past...
Exactly what I was thinking. Legends Arceus looks like it might take place a couple hundred years ago at *most*. But people keep acting as though every mention of the past took place all at once. The past is a vague and lengthy time period, and ancient history is more towards a thousand years ago at least, not a couple hundred years ago. This is the more recent past, not ancient history.
This explains why the Legendary dogs are related to Ho-Oh. That silver dog was intended for the main legendary for Silver and then turned into Entei, Suicuine and Raikou when Lugia became a thing.
if we were to go by real-world biology, the "stronger" Magikarp would've probably just been a Relicanth or a similar ancestor. Relicanth have existed for 100 million years (100 myr), so it is likely that a few individuals eventually migrated out of deeper waters causing them to adapt to new niches and evolve into many of the fish Pokemon we know today, including our boy Magikarp. Hope this was helpful.
Modern Magikarp could be a result of fish farming. We know from real life that farming fish does change the fish quite a lot. Salmon for example get some of the bright pink colour as a result of the farming methods. Natural salmon are greyish in colour. We know Magikarp is eating widely in the Pokemon world. It could be a case of these farm Magikarp escaping into the wild and breeding exponentially.
@@susear5939 good observation, Magikarp could definitely be farmed for consumption. However, the pigmentation of salmon isn't due to an evolutionary process, it has to do with feeding habits. If the Magikarp are already quite a brilliant orange in the wild, farmed Magikarp would likely be even more brilliant or would change their colour entirely (perhaps a theory on shiny variants?) due to whatever carotenoid their food source consists of.
My theory for egg and chick: Expanding on yours that it’s a gen 1 version of showing that Pokémon come from eggs, I think it’s Togepi and togetic. Or the egg itself and togepi is the chick. Togepi was introduced in the gen 1 anime to show the same concept and then went on to be a gen 2 Pokémon introducing the egg mechanic to the games. I believe you are correct that egg and chick were gen ones concept of breeding, but that they weren’t lost Pokémon, they just got reworked into the gen 2 games.
Entei, Raikou and Suicune seem to possess characteristics of that supposedly original Silver Version Legendary. Like Entei kind of has the face and body build, Suicune kind of has the fur with it's mane or head and back fur along with it's ribbon like tail or ribbon like, tail like fur, while Raikou has the speed it seemingly would have.
I think the pkmn b4 lugia got into the picture could be that lion thing. either ho oh was supposed to be the bird trio leader or the team wanted to be creative/funny and wanted the lion one for the birds and ho oh for the beasts . a switchero if ya so will
If they make more legend games it's possible they might make extint varients to currently existing pokemond or new pokemon that have become extinct in the presemt of the pokemon world
Can't believe you didn't mention the most interesting thing about the first girafarig pre-evo: It's wobbuffet. Aside from it having the same name, they (kinda) kept the design in wobbuffet's tail.
4:12 I used to assume that Shuckle evolved into Torkoal. They are both turtle Pokémon, and their names end with a "cull" sound. I saw them both in the anime first, and thought they were connected. It turns out though, that neither of them evolve. It's my own head canon that these are Pokémon are closely related.
"egg and chick" sounds like Togapi. That would explain why a gen 2 pokemon appeared in the anime so early. Like Donphan and Ho-oh the concept was always there.
@@mediumChungus69 the games weren't made on the day they were released lol. Production of second gen games began in 97. Ken Sugimori worked on both the game designs and anime. Ho-oh in the 1st episode was a Easter egg for the release of the 2nd gen games.
I buy that lion being the box legend because it looks like a Pokemon that would be connected to the 3 dogs and it would make sense if originally Ho-Oh was connected to Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos
I assumed that Magnezone's pokedex entries were talking about they couldn't figure out how to force Magneton to evolve into Magnezone. Referencing how magnezone need(ed) to be in certain locations to evolve

The modern day rip off ‘Pokemon: The Power of Us’ was quite good too, VERY good actually, just not quite AS good.). However, I’m willing to admit I like the looks of that Pokemon that is rumored to be the original silver box legendary.
I agree with everything you said... I hope Netflix does an updated animated version of it like they did with the first one or put it on the list to be watched eventually...
@@drd2005channel actually…i wasn’t too big of a fan of the revamp of the original movie. It just WASN’T THE SAME. the original trilogy of pokemon movies are MASTERPIECES, and i don’t think the need a revamp I’m just a sentimental gen 1er tho. 😝 lol
3:01 Egg and Chick was togepi evolution before gen2. Egg was togepi in the egg and chick was togetic which was a reference to chick hatching from a egg.
I think egg and chick might have been an early consent for togepi and togetic. After all, misty had a togepi in the anime when it was set in Kanto so I don’t think it’s too far a stretch 😅
I really hope the legends game does well. And that they don't just do one time thing with Sinnoh. I may be asking for too much but if they did an anime series for this it would be awesome.
7:04 I think that the original legendary Pokémon could’ve been something more akin to a Chinese/Japanese Dragon. The reason for this is bc the Ho-Oh is mainly based on the Fenghuang, a legendary Chinese bird sometimes called the “Chinese Phoenix” and the Fenghuang is often paired with the Chinese Dragon
Gold and Silver were meant to be a single game, they were split towards the end of development. So, Ho-oh was the only legendary because it was the only one needed.
It would be a bit funny if the legendary beasts were based on the former Silver box art Pokemon and that the reason you initially find them in the burnt tower is as symbolism for the slightly higher status they would never receive.
a cool thing they could do with girafarig, especially with scarlet and violet comin soon, is something SIMILAR to maybe umbreon and espeon or wurmple, a PV can give it one of two evos. One has the "tail" as the main head, in a sense of corruption. The other could maintain this normal girafarig, but maybe the tail gets smaller
I always figured the older more powerful magicarp were stronger defensively. In order to deter possible predators that wouldn’t be able to or want to use the effort to consume it. It also has the ability swift swim which it could have evolved along with the magicarp as their predators died off they didn’t need a thick hide and would shed their thick hide for more speed.
The lion-dog was supposed to be the original silver artwork. It is the 2nd attempt at a lion-dog legendary, after the original concept being used for Arcanine, which was turned into a normal pokemon upon realizing how cute a smaller version of it would be (Growlithe) we finally got out lion-dog though so its ok
Having a dog like legendary in place of Lugia make much more sense, it will be the leader of the 3 legendary beast and Ho-oh would be the leader of the 3 legendary birds
considering just how well lugia fits as the box art legendary for the silver version being a bird like ho oh that matched well with the silver theme i feel like they always intended to use the Pokémon designed for the Pokémon movie 2000 as the second legendary and just sorta gave the creator of lugia minor requirements for its creation. like for example it being a bird that would match with the color silver and act as a foil to ho oh.
hmmm.... maybe, but maybe not. Why would it need to be two birds? Just look at Groudon and Kyogre. if not for the glowing line patterns, they'd have NOTHING in common.
i think egg and chick were intended to be part of a ranking system along with everything else onward, so like a newbie would be egg and then as they'd get better they'd become chick, bronze, silver, etc.
I'm annoyed you mentioned Magikarp having a different form from the Pokedex, and Magnezone's entry in the Pokedex, and COMPLETELY skipped over Corphish - who has over half its Pokedex entries stating that its a foreign Pokemon imported to be a pet, escaped, and adapted to its environment.
Wow, this video was fascinating! The reason why so many pokemon were cut from Gen 2 is very simple, the game could only hold up to 255 different Pokemon, and it already was using 253 out of 255 slots since it counted Eggs and missigno as their own entry. It literally only had space for 2 more entries, or maybe 3 if you removed missigno. So GF decided to cut evolutions (Piloswine's evo) or leave Pokes without evolutions (Yanma, Shuckle, etc) so they could fit in more new Pokemon. Hopefully we see more of those cut concepts someday, like what happened with Generation 4!
Yeah, Gen1 and Gen 2 were very limited in what they could do. Gen 1 nearly became vapor ware because of how hard it was to compact the code enough to force it to fit into the cart used. which led to some of the most famous video game bugs of all time.
Shudo very much went down a path of destruction in himself in order to have developed Lugia. My man become a big smoker and alcoholic during the creation of Lugia. I love Lugia, so I really appreciate the hardship this man shudo went through to make him the Pokemon we know today.
Egg and Chick might have been a reference to Earthbound - in that game and Mother 3 you can pick up an item called Fresh Egg which will eventually hatch in your inventory into a Chick, then grow into a Chicken. the game doesn't actually tell you this has happened and the only indication is an intermittent beeping which is the chicken clucking
I'd kind of like to see the conjoined twin ghosts be it's own entity, maybe it evolves into a yin-yang type of thing or something, or maybe even the start of a new type, "light" or something. I dunno.
It would have been so poetic having the more dog like box legendary for silver so it could be the master of the birds while ho oh is the master of the dogs - they swapped species :)

Egg and chick sound like they go with the rank titles, egg being the starting title (absolute beginning noob) chick being just going into the world and catching pokemon, etc.
Or a rank for Pokémon, egg being level 1-10 and chick being 11-30
As someone who loves Pokémon for the culture and inspiration behind each one, I would love to see all of these.
Sadly, eviolite makes it impossible for Shuckle to evolve.
@@toumabyakuya At first I thought you meant everstones, but then I realized what you meant by it.
How about a psychic/fairy type Magikarp, then it would truly be a *magic carp.*
not another psychic fairy please
Psychic Fairy is too wide spread, water fairy or even dark fairy would be more interesting
Or just a single type water since it is a fish?
Because it is stronger does not mean it's type would change. The "newer" Magikarp would still have the dual typing even if it evolved. Unless it is a regional thing.
@@rule34artist33 it would definitely be water but i can see it having a second type, maybe like water/steel because steel is a strong type
@@ShinyCramorant Steel would make sense because of Magikarp's strong scales
"and an evo for girafarig" Welp, we got one now!!
I want that Pokedex book so bad sigh. It's like $300-400 though.
The "failure" resulting from forced evolution attempts on Magnezone could be the cause of Meltan? Much like the "Mew clone experiments created Ditto" theory
Hop pnoynopnno nppnn
That Magnezone "evolution" looked more like a fusion of Magnezone and Claydol.
Hoops: "Ghost and Normal still hasn't been used yet"
Hisuin Zorua/Zoroark: Allow us to introduce ourselves.
There is a devolution drink in the TCG, so that's something.
Fits more with the towers than Lugia does as lion-dogs protect temples and such.
yeah, all the legends in GS make sense... except Lugia. Lugia just... doesn't have a connection with the in-game story, it's kinda just... there.
@@marhawkman303 Yeah. It's because Lugia was created as an anime exclusive. Kind of wish that they had kept the silver dog and just made Lugia a mythical.
So does this stronger Magikarp have a weaker Gyarados form? That would be weird
Imagine trading the weaker Gyarados to that guy in XY who requests that you trade your Gyarados for his Magikarp.
Luckily, Gnoggin does cover it in a video, deducing that LA must take place in what would be the late 1800s for us.
@@amesstarline5482 unluckily he hasnt killed himself like he promised years ago
This explains why the Legendary dogs are related to Ho-Oh. That silver dog was intended for the main legendary for Silver and then turned into Entei, Suicuine and Raikou when Lugia became a thing.
Entei is a lion, Raikou is a tiger, and Suicuine is a leopard... they're not dogs
if we were to go by real-world biology, the "stronger" Magikarp would've probably just been a Relicanth or a similar ancestor.
@@Perro_Picante that's what I meant for the salmon. Regarding the Magikarp. That could be the case. In Magikarp jump we see Magikarp in many colours.
My theory for egg and chick:
Expanding on yours that it’s a gen 1 version of showing that Pokémon come from eggs, I think it’s Togepi and togetic. Or the egg itself and togepi is the chick. Togepi was introduced in the gen 1 anime to show the same concept and then went on to be a gen 2 Pokémon introducing the egg mechanic to the games.
I believe you are correct that egg and chick were gen ones concept of breeding, but that they weren’t lost Pokémon, they just got reworked into the gen 2 games.
given that it's next to trainer titles... I'm going with Egg and Chick being unused trainer titles.
You sir just gave me a shivers down my spine with 2 words you made me think. Evolite shuckle
I think egg and chick could be related to Togepi
If we get another Legends game, I’d love to see an ancient Magikarp that just doesn’t evolve lmao
Can we talk about how the Shuckle evolution has a lower base stat total than Shuckle
That's because you don't fuckle with the Shuckle.
He was born to be fodder for Shuckle to use Eviolite. Lol.
Gamefreak missed the opportunity to add a strong Hisuian Magikarp to Legends Arceus.
i always thought girafarig was kinda like wobba because of its tail and think that first sprite would make sense if that was the case
Entei, Raikou and Suicune seem to possess characteristics of that supposedly original Silver Version Legendary. Like Entei kind of has the face and body build, Suicune kind of has the fur with it's mane or head and back fur along with it's ribbon like tail or ribbon like, tail like fur, while Raikou has the speed it seemingly would have.
yeah, that's kinda where I was going.... it's like a fourth legendary dog.
I just think the science experiment for Magnezone was sticking three together and seeing it if it evolves.
You know what I still want to Know. Is Kabutops REALLY the Pokémon used to create Genesect? As a kid I was never sure about that.
I just imagine the evolution of that strange gyarados, it should be do OP
Edit: my writing skills suck
Yes they do
4:12 I used to assume that Shuckle evolved into Torkoal. They are both turtle Pokémon, and their names end with a "cull" sound. I saw them both in the anime first, and thought they were connected. It turns out though, that neither of them evolve. It's my own head canon that these are Pokémon are closely related.
These are my favorite videos!! Please do more!!
Egg and Chick sure sound a lot like Togepi and Togetic, whose name was technically mistranslated as it should've been Togechick
That's exactly what I thought
"egg and chick" sounds like Togapi. That would explain why a gen 2 pokemon appeared in the anime so early. Like Donphan and Ho-oh the concept was always there.
The second generation of games was out during the time the original anime was released.
@@turkey2003 No they weren't lol they came out in 99, 2000 in America, anime came out in 97, 98 in America

9:37 I feel like the evolution level wasn't intended to be level 10, and that was likely a placeholder
9:56 this cry was repurposed for Magcargo, i see..
Yeah about Girafarig-
Yanmega is honestly one of my favourite Pokemon. I get so hyped everytime someone mentions it lol. Nuzlockes really makes you feel attached man. Yanmega and Forretress have become my two favourite mons lol
Wow never knew magikarp had that much power, and shuckle having an evolution would be very cool to see, and for crying out loud gamefreak pls out the beta pokemon as actual pokemon In the game and anime
I ADORE the gold and silver box legendaries, and ‘Pokemon: The Power Of One’ is, has been since it came out when I was a little girl, and always WILL be my FAVORITE Pokémon movie (great animation, great music, great story, timeless message.
Egg was togepi in the egg and chick was togetic which was a reference to chick hatching from a egg.
the "OG" silver legendary also fits with the dog trio so the birds probably would have originally belonged to HO-OH.
I think egg and chick might have been an early consent for togepi and togetic. After all, misty had a togepi in the anime when it was set in Kanto so I don’t think it’s too far a stretch 😅
Okay analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
play Pokémon reborn, there's something called pulse Pokémon and there's a pulse magnezone that looks seriously epic!!!!
That dude is legend not only did he create 2 of the best pokemon movies but gave us the most infamous mewtwo quote
It would also be possible if the starter evolutions were originally planned for the boxart, or entei and raikou.
I like the look of that alternate Silver Pokémon. I’d like to pet it 😊
Imagine if shuckle did get an evolution! How can you improve on perfection though? They would have had to nerf shuckle to because of eviolite
Sad story about the Shuckle; I've always wanted an evolution for it.
Gold and Silver were meant to be a single game, they were split towards the end of development. So, Ho-oh was the only legendary because it was the only one needed.
Egg and Chick as Togepi and Togetic? Especially since it's obvious they, like Ho-Oh, were developed way before other Gen II pokes.
It would be a bit funny if the legendary beasts were based on the former Silver box art Pokemon and that the reason you initially find them in the burnt tower is as symbolism for the slightly higher status they would never receive.
It was. I read some were that there was a concept of only a single legendary dog but it got split into 2, then again to 3 later
@@felidaebi6239 The masses call their original combined form...
Arcanine.
a cool thing they could do with girafarig, especially with scarlet and violet comin soon, is something SIMILAR to maybe umbreon and espeon or wurmple, a PV can give it one of two evos. One has the "tail" as the main head, in a sense of corruption. The other could maintain this normal girafarig, but maybe the tail gets smaller
Since magikarp are based on domestic koi, the original form could resemble the wild amur carp.
Magicarp is a Yelloweye rockfish
I always figured the older more powerful magicarp were stronger defensively. In order to deter possible predators that wouldn’t be able to or want to use the effort to consume it. It also has the ability swift swim which it could have evolved along with the magicarp as their predators died off they didn’t need a thick hide and would shed their thick hide for more speed.
I'm surprised you didn't include Kangaskhan's pre-evolution!
The lion-dog was supposed to be the original silver artwork.
It is the 2nd attempt at a lion-dog legendary, after the original concept being used for Arcanine, which was turned into a normal pokemon upon realizing how cute a smaller version of it would be (Growlithe)
we finally got out lion-dog though so its ok
Having a dog like legendary in place of Lugia make much more sense, it will be the leader of the 3 legendary beast and Ho-oh would be the leader of the 3 legendary birds
so much this! also Lugia's basically not in the GS story.
Ancestral variants would be so 🔥🔥🔥
considering just how well lugia fits as the box art legendary for the silver version being a bird like ho oh that matched well with the silver theme i feel like they always intended to use the Pokémon designed for the Pokémon movie 2000 as the second legendary and just sorta gave the creator of lugia minor requirements for its creation. like for example it being a bird that would match with the color silver and act as a foil to ho oh.
hmmm.... maybe, but maybe not. Why would it need to be two birds? Just look at Groudon and Kyogre. if not for the glowing line patterns, they'd have NOTHING in common.
As cool as a Magnezone evolution would be, it would definitely cause a fair amount of turmoil in the competitive scene.
They could just pull another scizor, change the stat already instead of increasing it
But then again, eviolote magnezone...
i think egg and chick were intended to be part of a ranking system along with everything else onward, so like a newbie would be egg and then as they'd get better they'd become chick, bronze, silver, etc.
yeah the location makes sense like this.
Thumbnail made me think about all the different Magikarp patterns there are in Magikarp Jump. That's honestly where I thought you were going with it.
1:16 "that's what the rumours say, but they're probably wrong"
Basculegion is the Magikarp. I’m thinking Basculegion spawns a life after death situation.
I was already going insane not knowing what the original Gen 5 dragon looks like! Now I have to go insane from 10 other Pokemon?!
I dunno.
Hisuian Magikarp family anyone? Also would be cool to see the original forms of the 3 legendary dog pokemon
It would have been so poetic having the more dog like box legendary for silver so it could be the master of the birds while ho oh is the master of the dogs - they swapped species :)
