    haha, i was the one asking her about her scottish heritage and it turned into that beautiful talk about the archetypes and influences. In hindsight, without knowing myself then her answer was just what I needed to hear in a difficult time in my life. actually the whole hour was very touching and had a great impact surely on all of us. Well, usually all of her interviews are inspiring but , as someone else here stated, the questions were really different from "professional" interviewers, I also loved what she said about elderly people feeling "unseen".

    Unlike some of the other comments, there was nothing in this interview that I would consider fake or narcissistic. She seems confident in what she's saying and excited to share her knowledge but it's not in an arrogant way. She spoke less about herself as an individual than any other person I've seen interviewed. Also, she's not being fake. She's trying to string together a series of words in order to teach something that's difficult to describe.

    I myself have grown older with this lovely artist and it has been such a privilege I learn from her grace and intelligence and how humble she is who else takes the time to be with her fans the way she does? I can't think of anyone she's so humble and beautiful.

    Her talking about her inspiration and how the songs come to her is like how I write my poetry and how it comes to me...I have literally had to stop teaching and run to the computer bc a poem would start in my head and needed to come out. Its an indescribable feeling but she articulates it better than I have ever heard.. Love you Tori..

    14 Albums . This woman amongst many still amazes ! A storyteller . that's a beautiful way to talk about composition -even in works that don't use words . Someone tell me where Joan Armatrading is? I can't believe it . She's a busy woman . She knows too about so many other ways of seeing and experiencing life . So much less patent pain now . I miss the heart-wrenchingness of the early works .i know she would say it's still there when you want it . She lived in Poland . How did that happen . After siouxsie her voice never dies I've written 4piano concerti ,7 violin concerti 4 for cello - but she actually is talked about . Tori - I hope you've heard roomfull of Teeth . Collaborations are good for us . She did a musical too and some things for Deutsche Grammophon . It's wonderful to be so creative and so productive . The hard part is getting it out there ! Such a prodigy she was as a child . Magic Woman , her mother and her daughter is a lover of music . Wow ! Her music has helped me enormously . More men need to discover womistory!

      Newsflash. *None* of us are really "ourselves". Unless you want to be ostracized, ridiculed and proclaimed a "weirdo" you'd better fall in line and let your "personal outburst" out when you have reached such a position these social rules don't apply to you anymore.

    Everyone should do this..go outside late at night when all is quiet and no one to bother you, and the sky is filled with the millions of planets in the solar system in full view for your eyes to adore. And talk to the sky and the stars.View the sky at every angle and just let the stars hear your thoughts, your wishes and your regrets..believe me there is something magnificent about it. TRY IT..AT LEAST ONCE...PLEASE.

    There are moments in this interview in which you can see the emotions in Tori, I enjoy her as an artist. What concerns me the most is how utterly strange some of her fans can become. I have followed Tori, like many, at the beginning of her career, but I respect the fact that she is a human being, not a "goddess" or a redheaded Buddha. There are so many extremes from putting her on a pedestal to cutting her off at the knees. Just enjoy her music and share your positive experiences.

    I love Tori, I must mention that her experience with her mother taking her by the hand and going to the mirror, and what that all lead to... The invisible feeling elders are facing I have seen this with my grandmother and noticed she has so much to share and give but has shut down in some ways because of neglect. So to Tori Amos I thank you deeply you made me aware of something or confirmed that what I was witnessing with my grandmother are infact actually happening and she's not alone. I just hope I have enough time with her still to hopefully some how make her feel present and noticed before she passes on. Thank you great interview.

    WOW! Gawd ! to look at life and things in life and have the vitality of mind to be able to say and SEE things ,emotional states , life stages , other people's words or stories and say " That is my Teacher " WOW! She resonates on so many levels and she always has because of the interconnectivity . I'm 54 in april and that too can be difficult even as a man . She makes a comment about 80 . Remember Tori many great performers especially in the classialmusical field keep performng . Casals and Rubinstein were still cathching airplanes and recording for the cold high eyes of posterity . Rubinstein's Liszt sonata came out when he was in his late 70's . I can'tplay the octaves like that even in my 20's :there is no hardness or percussion . that's a wisdom the body knows .

    Female vs male villains in popular Disney films: Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians, Little Mermaid are all female, Lion King, Peter Pan, Aladdin are all male. This guy isn't realizing she's got a daughter and all the female stories are geared toward little girls which is probably what Tori is identifying with. Anyway she WAS right. Even if the interviewer seemed skeptical.

  • @xtradelite903

    Writers, as well as many different artists, pretty much describe the creative process as Tori does. You use instinct together with your imagination, "hold it down", and follow through the song/story/pictures you have. Tori calls it "listening to the frequencies". One writer went so far as to say to suspend ones intelligence, become stupid, and then bring intelligence back in for structure and other necessary things. Quote: "Imagination is more valuable than knowledge", by Albert Einstein.

      Crystal Tompkins He's very awkward in many ways and it probably is due to the language barrier. Sometimes I have to skip his part to jump straight to what Tori has to say. But having said that, he did ask a set of really good questions.

    • @yvindkorsnes2296
      @yvindkorsnes2296 7 лет назад +3

      I find him quite likeable and pleasent. And i felt Tori liked him too. And about the akwardness? I dont know, perhaps things can get a bit akward when talking in your non-native language when interviewing a huge star in front of a big audience? Not any audience, but an audience consisting of the interviewing subjects own die-hard fans? Eager to be dissatisfied by anything that does not meet their lively expectations ? Might make the best of us nervous..but i always felt he did not try and hide that behind any false arrogance or negative projection or some other defense mechanism. Rather he was actually smoothing things out with a little bit of self deprecating humour for sympathetic effect and other small "tells" of him "apologizing" for his own "shortcomings". And I think he contributed to making Tori feel pleasent and safe so she could be open and sensitive in her many fascinating musings during the session.
      I also liked the part where he asked one of the questioneers, to answer the question themselves of "what do you like about yourself". You can watch how positive Tori reacted to his offer of help to an otherwise uncomfortable question. Around the 30:15 mark. Shows his empathy for his guest by taking some of the edge away of that dreaded self-conscious feeling that was obviously stirring inside Mrs. Amos. There was many more of these moments that clearly showed a person that cares about the people around him so i am quite bewildered by some of the negative response here. Have they tried interviewing in this kind of setting themselves? Do they know that it is not easy? If they haven't, could they at least try and imagine it? And does not the very fact that Tori clearly felt calm and at ease during the interview speak for itself regarding the quality of the moderator? It has to speak of something, right?

    • @yvindkorsnes2296
      @yvindkorsnes2296 7 лет назад +1

      +ddpp First and foremost: this guy is not a tv show host. This was not broadcasted on TV. You are on the internet, on youtube, this was filmed to document it and make it avaliable for anyone interested. This has nothing do with tv production. Onwards to your points:
      "if tori was calm and at easde its because shes a pro and has been doing interviews for over two decades"
      You are right in that she is experienced in dealing with less than pleasing interviewers, but clearly this was not one of those cases were she had to use her experience to constantly regulate her emotional responses and "rise above" an unemphatetic interviewer. She is genuine in her responses, both verbally and non-verbally towards the interviewer. You saying she is faking it? The smiles, the eye contact etc? I think she would have been much more attentive towards the public if the case was that the interviewer was unpleasent. But she is not. She is continously inviting contact with him.
      "he was rigid, though, frequently referencing the time, then the "three boys, three girls" thing, ugh. very stiff."
      What you mean by rigid is not clear to me. I have seen many of these kinds of public events and the artist themselves (which was the case for this interview, he mentions it at 31:40) have indeed a rigid time schedule to follow and they often mentions it to remind both themselves, the guest and the public that they have to keep in the back of their mind the time frame they can expect and to work with. I dont see anything unusal about this.
      The "three boys, three girls" thing...what can i say? What a judgemental way to approach other human beings and "crucify" (pun inteded!) them for whatever little detail that you perceived them to do the "wrong way".
      He said: "I think we had three questions from men, now we should have..questions from women"
      Is this rigid? Is there no truth to the idea that men on average, have less objections to raising their voice in public? He is mindful for this fact and wants to give more opportunity women to ask questions...i think that is a kind and good thing to do. So he gives the chance to a woman. Fair deal. Then after that questions he mentions and turns towards Tori and empathetically ensures her that "..i know that you are on a tight schedule and have to rush it", and actually the way he says it was a good "serve" to Tori to shoot in and "defy" her tight schedule in enthusiastically suggesting and pointing towards a girl in the audience who have had her hand up for a while (this is around the 31:40 mark). He also mentions that after that question have been answered "maybe we get more then..hm? We see how it goes *twinkle in his eye"
      This is completely reasonable points and in its not done in a rigid-strict-arrogant-furry eyebrowned manner AT ALL. Quite the contrary. He shows that he understands the fans wanting more of Tori, but also that his hands are tied. He eases the situations with humour, like in the very opening when he "demands" that the audience stops clapping because they dont "have THAT much time". You do realize that that is a joke right? You hear the people laughing right? Its a pretty clever way to inform people that they in fact have limited time..and he did not "frequently reference" the time issue until when he decided to turn over to the audience for questions - please dont exaggerate, that is no a kind thing to do.
      Then when this question has been answered we get to the 37:10 mark where the INFAMOUS "three boys..three girl" incident happens (sarcasm) This is such a trivial matter. And to simply forget all the positive things he did during the interview, and focus on this non-issue, is just baffling to me. So it was a bit over rigid? Guess what? He has to think on his feet in front of a Tori-hungry audience. He is looking out in the public and facing perhaps some guys who were eagerly wanting to have a question. How would you react to that? If you have in your mind that you want another question from a woman to make it fair, do you not feel perhaps an impulsive urge to "explain" to the guys you are are letting down? Who knows? Maybe he spotted a person he knew, a male acquaintance wanting to a ask a question? WE DONT KNOW. Who here can claim that they could do it better and be in complete control of every impulse, every idea and every outcome down to complete perfection? This is just ridiculous!
      And what incident are we even talking about? Here is what he says "one mooore...small sigh....i said "ladies" now.."
      *he realizes his own relative stiffness in this situation and fittingly eases the tension by a little self-deprecating gesture - the underlaying message being: i know, i know i'm a tight ass bear with me, blink blink. This is to show insight into himself and that he is not perfect and the ability to imagine how others feel about you and how you behave. So much of communication is non-verbally and non grammatically so open your ears, eyes and mind people! Continuing
      "..it's three boys, three girls"
      These 5 words are said in a light toned voice in an effort to ease the strickt nature of his message, yet there is also a little bit of a defying rhythm to his speech in these 5 words, which i guess is his own gentle way in overcoming his own fear of being to strict and showing both the audience and himself that he will not give into the crowds demands. Immediateley after this you can see a fraction of discomfort in him, he is not comfortable with being confrontational and strict, yet he shrugs his body out of this small discomfort and continues to decidedely point out the next questionnaire: after all he has to have the final say for this kind of event to work.
      This person has reached a point in his life and career, where he is being offered the position to interview a huge star like Tori Amos in front of an audience. You cannot be a hard-ass person without social skill to get that far. Think about that. It does not mean that he will not get a bit nervous and maybe a stutter here and there or even a mistimed comment. There are "mitigating circumstances" to explain for that and i did so in my last comment. Here is an idea: Perhaps be critical to your own impulses and notions that are pushing you to judge others on small details and shallow gounds. Give people a second chance by first being critical to your own response to them. And what good are we sowing into the world, by spreading this negativity? I believe in that encouraging people will get the best out of them and we have to start by stopping in demanding them to be perfect and bullying them to stop whatever they are doing!
