Same. That shit made me set down what I working on for a second and compose myself. That's some of the darkest shit I've heard in a minute, and I don't exactly live in Sunshine Land.
When I was in Catechism, the priest told us the story of resurrection for Easter. He said that Jesus rose and moved the stone that no man could have moved! So I raised my hand and asked... Then who moved it in place then? That was my last day in class. My parents were told that I was disruptive in class.
I was told by the minister of the Baptist church I was going to as a kid. That dinosaurs were planted there by the devil to confuse us. I saw right Through that bull crap as an Elementary school student. Never looked back.
If someone is only nice to me bcos they fear a punishment (hell) then I dont want you to be nice to me! You should be nice bcos its good to be nice! 🤷🏽♂ People who claim religion is good for morality are wrong.
Imagine the biggest piece of shit human found God and it changed how he saw the world. He started treating people better than ever before. How is this bad for society at large? People don't have to earn salvation by doing good deeds rather because we know we have assurance, we have a different outlook on life and the result we might be nicer and that isn't a negative whatsoever!
My father was a crop duster pilot who crashed in 1957, but survived somehow. Until the fire erupted. My mom, a devout German Catholic, was incapable of verbalizing her feelings. Hence, I withdrew from religion, as she understood it. I never looked back....
Absolutely, man. Lure them in when they're young + the willingness to believe adults as authority figures and then prevent them from knowing or being educated by outside sources. It's cult behavior 101. No one bats an eye because this cult has over a billion members. It's really gross and makes us Humans looks pretty stupid (to the aliens watching us)

I think Neal does believe in a god - or higher power (I'm fairly sure he has said in previous episodes) but is turned off by organized religion. I really don't get the logic of that group of people. What's the point of this higher power and why even give a crap? It's that bizarre group of folks that are secretly afraid of hell, as if they we're 12 years old.

@@edugator2242 my statement is valid. You do not need a reward and punishment system to be a moral agent. All you need is our innate sense of altruism. The morality put forward by most religions is not conducive to a peaceful life. The fact that it can be high jacked shows its inconsistent nature.
It blows my mind how religious people can't understand morality without faith. If the only reason you are kind is because you're scared of being punished, you are not a kind person. You are a psychopath, and religious communities have plenty of those.

By my understanding most religions are quite clear that blind obedience in hopes of reward is false obedience

I tend to side with George Carlin on this one.
Anyone else feel that religions (in general) encourage their followers to avoid non-religious education? I suppose it’s a retention strategy.

How do you know
True religion is not about power and control.
Some humans use it for that, but that does not your statement true.
Religion is weird.
Religious thought does not improve morality .
It's entire purpose is to improve morality.
Some may hijack it and turn it in to something bad, but that does not validate your statement.
