FYI, at 3 mercs, mercenary rolls get luckier as you lose more, and the maximum loss streak stack is 11 (if you get 12 loss streak or more, you won't get any more lucky with the rolls). At 5 mercs, you get +3 loss streaks (the maximum is still 11, so you only need 8 loss streak), if you're win streaking, your rolls are as lucky as 3 mercs 3 loss streaks. At 7 mercs, you always get the luckiest rolls (even better than 11 loss streak), so you don't need to lose anymore.

So in this situation, every hero has something called Hero Pool in the shop... Basically when the shop has 25% chance of 4 cost champs, u want to maximize the chance of u finding the 4 cost champ that u wanted to hit. Thats why, u buy other 4 cost champs to take them out of the shop and hopefully finds your desired 4 cost champ on the next roll.
I know it's late but it's the same logic when the "comps your playing is contested by another player" that's why you buy the champ you don't need to maximize your chances to get you comps.
