This is the kind of journey with sound logic, maturity, and hardwork that needs to spread more. Unfortunately we see more of the negative talk about Canada on social media, but ultimately its this kind of attitute that helps you win.

Nav bro, as a student of economics, I'm impressed by your enterprise and the way your mindset works, I think in a similar analytical fashion wrt the finances and numbers side of things. I see you as a person who is without doubt going to be a multimillionaire in the next 10 years. I shall be coming to Canada for my masters in fall 24, and will contact you then regarding saving/investment strategies for the next couple years, the interest rates would also hopefully start to come down. Godspeed!

Hello, Nav just a question, when you mentioned rule of 35 for the house do you mean the expenses on the house including (mortgage, insurance and council rates(nz)) or should it also include food, and other expenses?

I disagree my friend. I moved to Canada in 2022 at the age of 35 with my wife. We've done well because we worked hard and focused on saving. We still don't own a car, we haven't bought a house, and won't buy either till it makes sense financially. Sound financial logic and planning always wins in any scenario.

I am married and got home after marriage. When I got married I had $3000 total in all my savings account. $0 in TFSA and RRSP at age 30.
Me and My wife saved close to $90K after marriage for our first home in less than 2 years and bought our first Town home 45 km east of Vancouver in Maple Ridge for $720K.
A married couple both earning more than $100K each is the biggest secret to success and a wealthy life. And its not like we do not eat out or travel. We often eat out at least 2-3 times a week and travel for a over night trips at least once a month or if not that once in 2 months and short trips almost every other weekend and still manage to save. Even after buying the house we are paying extra in Mortgage to get it over with as quickly as possible. We do not own a business, we both work for standard private corporations in Canada within Vancouver.
These are just excuses from people that have bad spending habits. There are instances where you might need to help your family or parents so you might not be able to save much. But in most cases it just habits of bad spending. Most house holds do not need 2 cars, hence no 2 car payments.
Now after 1 year of buying our house, we again have 7-8 months of spending in joint savings account for emergency needs if one of us loses a job and some extra personal savings as well. A separate savings for our parents needs back in India as they are not getting any younger in age.
So FIX YOUR HABBITS before finding more EXCUSES for not saving.
