I really can’t get over how far sawyer has come, not only since you moved but just in the last year alone. He’s just blossomed. His vocabulary is absolutely amazing! I’m so glad you ended up getting him some headphones, it seems to have made the world of difference to his sensory overload issues when out & about. He really is a charming young boy, & I have no doubt in my mind in the years to come he will continue to blossom into a wonderful young man. Did you ever get answers for the school Griffin had that accident at? The school Sawyer is now at? How is Griffin getting on now? As I know things have changed for him too! And your youngest? How is her speech coming along? All the best :) love your nails by the way, very pretty!
I am a 14 year old girl with autism, and its so surreal to see the difference between boys and girls with autism (before you come at me, I’m aware all kids with ASD are different, I wasn’t even diagnosed until age 12) I am the star student in my math class, and I love numbers too! I vividly remember making an entire personality guide for each number (1-18) However, my special interest is the Gerudo tribe from Zelda, and I took the time to learn an ENTIRE FICTIONAL LANGUAGE just because its my special interest. I bet Sawyer loves to tell all about his numbers, just like I could tell you anything about the Gerudo Tribe! Sarqso! Sav’orq!
I am no psychologist, but assigning personalities to numbers could be a sign that you also have something called ordinal linguistic personification. It's a type of synesthesia (there are some extra connections in the brain where different, arguably unrelated, senses are linked. The most well known form is people who see different colors for different sounds or tones.). I had a friend with this and she told me her favorite number was 46 because 4&6 were best friends that would go on adventures together. She said in 64 they did not have the same relationship, but couldn't explain to me why. The brain gets more and more fascinating everyday.
Totally cool....have you considered learning Vulcan, Elvish, or Klingon.....I only know a few words.....but it's fun...!!! Hope your day is a good one!!!
Sawyer has came so far! You can see how much he has grown. I also have ADHD but I am 12. He is super charming and cute. His vocabulary is so good. And Sawyers math skills are very impressive. I can tell he will get far into the future! He is a little solder! ❤️❤️❤️
I have watched you fir a long time and I am autistic my self and im in 7th grade and I can only remember my 7 times tables and 8 times tables up until 3 and his maths surprises me so much I l love him I also have ADHD as well me and sawyer are part of the audhd community 🥳
My son is like a mix of Griffin and Sawyer - he has Griffin's mischief but he loves letters and numbers like Sawyer does. (And yes, he is exhausting lol)
How are you and Will doing? I love hearing kid updates but I also am a cheerleader for you two. I can see in your faces how hard it can be for you guys too
As someone in middle school I don’t even know my times tables and this kids in 2nd grade! I heard people with autism tend to actually be smarter but I don’t know don’t come at me if I’m wrong
Man I wish I had accommodation like that. I would just wiggle around and cry in my desk. I didn’t have a diagnosis so at school everyone just thought I was a sensitive odd kid even though something was definitely different in my brain.
My son is 7 with autism and ADHD as well. I wish he loved math but he hates doing the work. He learned every country and their flag and capital and was working on regions, states and territories then all of a sudden he was over it and obsessed with birds. He has since moved on to fruits and vegetables. 😂 He has so many capabilities but you can’t push him to do anything he doesn’t want to do or he shuts it down. Curious: Protein seems low? What about getting a mini Dash waffle maker & get Kodiak batter? Protein bars for kids? Protein drinks? Make Cottage cheese ice cream?
@Bee-gl2dy Yes, Emily has said on many, many occasions that Sawyer just won’t eat new foods, he would rather starve himself & that worries her greatly, she’d rather he eats, & I believe she spoke to his Drs who agree that although it’s best to keep trying, don’t deprive him & just keep giving him his safe foods. I did wonder though if he would try a little scrambled egg mixed through his rice, for the protein element? However, i do watch some family channels on here with adults who have autism who are now fantastic eaters & often try new foods, they make a game out of it & love it! Sawyer is still little! He may grow to be a little more adventurous :) x
My son takes Guanfacine as well and it’s helped a lot. He tells me his mind is more clear and he can think better. Also guanfacine isn’t recommended to take melatonin with
Honestly I think part of why autistic kids like math it's a fact. I like work with clear policies to follow grey areas are confusing and I always get it wrong. Math has the same process and it doesn't change. Writing was tough because my thoughts were mine and who's to say that art is bad vs good. I can write a research paper but creative writing was very difficult to get started.
Maybe u should try a reward system every time he tries a new food and if he likes McDonald’s see if he’ll like frozen chips and microwave burgers also a shop in my town do a fake McDonald’s meals and I’m also picky with food trying to figure out what I like
I am a autistic adult and I did not have good behavior as a kid and I was a little brat and I regret not behaving in school and I went to a private school that specializes in autism for seven years and I will always be grateful for the rest of my life and I will never want to change my experience with the school
They've said before, sawyer doesn't like anything with the consistency of yogurt. He also has a gag reflex, so most of those would probably make him gag or make the school staff's job, the parents jobs harder.
I have autism too I was diagnosed until I was 11 years old and 12 years old and I am now 12 years old and I was diagnosed in august since then It has never been good before I was diagnosed now It is better
Disability doesn’t need to have any negative connotations :) It is a disability in the sense of Sawyer needing additional help & guidance, so he gets the right support for him. It’s a misconception that just because the word disability has been used, that it equates to something negative.
Question for you with the toe walking did you ever think of anything gut related i was toe walking when i was little and about 10 years ago i got diagnosed with celiac disease which means I can’t have gluten. Just a thought
Have you heard of gluten sensitivity and casein sensitivity? My son is allergic to these and our doctor said it makes his autism symptoms worse. So she’s recommending we start a gluten and casein free diet. We are at a loss because that’s all he eats. But our doctor said that a lot of children with autism have these allergies. I was curious if your child has ever been tested to see if he has gluten and casein sensitivity.
I have autism too, and unlike Sawyer, I absolutely DETEST being touched for any reason AT ALL. Haircuts, tapping my shoulder to get my attention, the list goes on and I hate all of it. The only people who are allowed to touch me at all are some family or very close friends. The only time I opt for being touched is when I hold my mum's hand when we go out of the house. I also hate being looked at by most people. I hate it when they watch what I'm doing, when they look at me during and after asking a question, that list can go on forever as well.
I had a friend at school who was undiagnosed autistic, (diagnosed now). But, she wouldn't like ANYONE touching her, the only person at school that she'd let touch her was me. And to me, that made me really happy lol. (I'm also awaiting diagnosis's for ADHD & Autism lol)
