This is the first time I've seen a Singapore Mrt extremely packed, I've ever travelled during the peak hours and it's not as crowded as this because there is still some space to move around but when I watched this video, I'm so speechless..
Thank you for filming this - the real picture of so-called rail improvements after years of deteriorating services, in stark contrast to the alternative universe of utopian public transportation that our politicians and LTA _love_ to brag about. Our transport system is in dire need of reform, especially for those sitting at the top and chauffeured their way to work, who have *zero* understanding of how public transport works.
Lawrence Lim Even I as a regular RapidKL user feel sorry for ordinary Singaporeans who have to deal with this in a near frequent basis. I suggest the entire Singapore's public transport system need a wholesale changes. Even RapidKL's rail system is not doing badly. Only 2 major disruptions in 6 months. Wish y'all the best in the future. ☺.
Khairi Isa I haven't taken RapidKL while in Malaysia, but the KL Monorail (also operated by RapidKL to my knowledge) has been quite reliable. KTM Kommuter is another story though 😅 Back to Singapore, our transport is indeed in need of a major facelift after so many years of unresolved problems and unfulfilled promises. What I find most disappointing is the lack of contingency plans every time a disruption occurs, especially since one happens way too often than it should. I too hope that our trains will get better, and sooner rather than later! Thanks for your kind words ☺
Hi Lawrence I moved from sg to Melbourne, Australia at the beginning of last year and while I agree that the public transport in singapore seriously needs to be upgraded in account of the population, i still miss it SO much. Here in melbourne there are some really good parts about the public transport but over all singapores is still fiercely superior. Many more disruptions here than in sg but then again ive never seen Bishan AS bad as in this video. On a different note: missing home :'( eat some carrot cake for me hahah :D
I G Yeah, I do agree that we living in Singapore are indeed blessed in terms of the wide reach and accessibility of public transport, especially with the new MRT lines, which are really points of envy for other countries. However what I cannot comprehend is, as you said, the lack of forward planning to cope with increased commuter demand from a rapidly increasing population along the older North-South and East-West Lines, which is honestly deplorable imo. Comparing to other countries, we may fare better, but comparing to our once glorious MRT system, our trains have indeed deteriorated a lot. Doesn't help that the transport minister uses statistics that don't reflect on-the-ground commuter sentiments to insist that the MRT is becoming more reliable (three times more, in fact). I do hope that things will get better, at least by the time you fly back here for a visit! And chai tow kway is 😍
Not as bad when compared with overcrowding in London Underground. Making things worse, most of their trains don't have air conditioning, so it's very hot inside the train especially the Bakerloo line 1970's train
Some tokyo subway lines have already banned cellphones in the main cabins and only allow passengers to use it at the back of the train, this may be possible to happen in Singapore also
Im so relieved i live in bukit panjang and can take the downtown line, i go to clarke quay everyday for school and its super convinient! compared to my friend who stays in woodlands
If I were SMRT, I would remove every space to grab something and tell passengers to put their feet in the seats. I would also have stayed on until a station a lot of people would get off at. Is it any faster with the moving block signaling now?
70% used their vote in the last election to show that they support the government's immigration and all other policies. The 30% who voted for the opposition are cry babies, perpetual complainers and losers, as well as those foreigners who chose to become Singapore citizens knowing its one-party rule political climate but condemn the government who has opened the gates to let them in and hate Singaporeans. These are shameless ingrates whose parents, grandparents and forefathers had contributed nothing but come when the harvest is rich but bite the hands which feed them. They are also traitors to their motherlands which had fed, raised and nurtured them.
Moving out to the sea will cross Indonesia's territories. That's Singapore has practically no aquaculture and seafood is expensive because it has to import them. Even anglers get arrested by Indonesian marine police and they have to pay a hefty bribe to get released.
come to my country and you will see delays and disruption everyday with even some that are causing hours of extra travelling time;) SMRT disruptions don't occur that often compared to many other countries, but it still is awful to experience one of course
Henry Lim Oh wow are you kidding me. Like seriously !!!!!!!!. I would say RapidKL is not doing much damage. I mean really. Since January until June 2017. I've counted about 2 major disruptions in 6 months and 4/5 minor Singapore's MRT have experienced like 19/20 disruptions since January. Minor and major. I guess you're a SMRT shill to cheat the Singaporean public. Keep trying bro. P.S I'm a regular RapidKL user. 😊. Have a good day my friend.
Khairi Isa lol if i show this to people here in the Netherlands they will laugh about 2 major disruption. I think you can ask all Europeans and they will say that your system in Singapore is really good compared to what we have here. And you can see that I don't even live in Singapore, i have singaporean blood and i know singaporeans love to complain about the smallest thing;) but most of my family goes abroad very often so they really appreciate what singapore has now they have experienced the difference. We have daily delays and we have travel for 4 hrs instead of an 30mins journey almost every week at least once
What country are you from? Are you singer/model? Sydney Trains also has signaling problems, accidents, delay, etc. Same lah! If there is train accident, they will shut down the entire train line so police can do their thihgs!
Transport vlogs I am from the Netherlands but my parents are orginally from Singapore:) exactly train disruption happen everywhere in the world even the best train systems have it. And in SG they just introduced a new signalling system and they even explained why they had to test it out during operating hours, because otherwise it would take ages to implement the new signalling system. But I am sure the signalling system will work out well in the end haha
Transport vlogs oh and uhm well i dont really call myself singer/model but i do sing sometimes and i do some modeling stuff every now and then as well:)
It's long but that's not so bad. In my city the tram only come every 20min, or 30-40min in the evening. Regional trains arrive once per hour only... I live in Switzerland btw, supposedly the country with the best trains in the world. Well ,it may be true for the rest of the country, but not in my region though. Trains here are slow, unreliable, and extremely expensive
Well should we be comparing ourselves to the worst, does that give us an excuse for this inconvenience? We should aspire to become better like Japan's and Moscow's.Seriously, aim to become the best not the worse like the others.
Being the best has its limits. For one, both Tokyo and Moscow are wayyy bigger and have the space to supplement the needs of millions of people across different conurbation. Singapore on the other hand is already jam packed and rail transport can only go so far to accommodate the needs of 5 million people in an island of only 700 km square in size.
Tall Spoon That's because their infrastructure is suited for 7 digit numbers compare to Singapore. That's why we have the modernization program underway.
