Safety pin!!! I use a diaper pin because it is easier for me to handle. Isn’t this pattern lovely? And Linen makes it even better. Love this “How to” for the invisible zipper for elastic waist pants. So darn practical.
I have made these Pietra pants (wide leg palazzos, slim capri and the shorts) so many times. Not because I have a hard time pulling up these pants without a zipper, but I LOVE this feature. I cannot get the tutorial from Closet Core to run and I LOVE YOUR video better. You speak my language…I.e., I understand you the way you show ‘how’….watching again today to remember how to for the invisible zipper. FYI: I have made this pattern 7 times and every single time except one I have used Linen. The other time I used an extra yard of quilting cotton…worked great! Thank you again Whitney!
Whitney, Great video! I have the same problem as your daughter. I'm in the process of making a test garment with the same kind of waist. How wonderful that you happen to put this video out at this time. Thank you. Suzanne
I always appreciate your tutorials. I’m amazed at how everything you sew looks so neat, even from the inside ! I always learn something new. Thank you for putting in the time to prepare all that content ! I will be putting a little something in the tip jar !
I definitely would have twisted that elastic all wrong attaching it to the seam allowance on the second side! My brain does not make sense of how to line things like that up, but you make it look so natural 😆
Did you hear me hollering”Safety pin!!” Great job and such a good reference for sewists that may not have ventured into this world of invisible zips! Great job💕
Thanks! Congratulations on selling out your in person workshop and n one day! Can’t swing it just yet, but certainly hoping more will be coming down the pike. Would love to sew with you, absorbing everything! ❤️ take care.
Thank you! You’ve really demystified the process for me…I didn’t know how the invisible zipper foot worked. I need to find one for my Juki TL-2010Q. I have this pattern! Was thinking of making Capri length. Great teaching Whitney!!!
As always, a great tutorial. I sew the invisible zipper the same way. I just want to mention that I don't have an industrial machine which uses different type of presser foot, I have low shank brother and juki domestic machines and I have the same ZIPPER FOOT that work with my machines I found it at eBay and is a game changer, it has so many applications!
@@TomKatStitchery No, they are not interchangeable. That was the reason I was so excited to found them. Once I purchase an industrial foot for my domestic machines and they don't fit. I have others that the industrial machine uses but made specific for the LOW SHANK
Thank you for this video. I too have a 11 inch difference between my waist & hips. I've seen this pattern and wondered about the fit. May have to check it out. The Upland Trousers & the Glissando's fit me without any issues which is unusual. Thanks again!!
I love my Pietra pants! I sewed them per the pattern, but do find them hard to keep up on my true waist as they are intended to fit. I wonder if adding the zipper and tightening up the elastic would do the trick!
Great video Whitney. Do you have a tutorial on how to put an elastic waistband in the back of a regular pair of pants with a sewn on hand. I like the look of regular front zipper pants but would love a little bit of give. I would think a little elastic in the back of the pants would be great.
Thanks. That’s a great pattern. For some weird reason when I made my first pair, the front ended up being shorter than the back leg. Thinking it was a flute probably because I had trouble getting my head around folding up that pocket, I made a second pair. Same thing happened. I have no idea where it went wrong. 🤷♀️🤦♀️Not looking for help, it’s just something weird I’m doing wrong. I definitely want to revisit this pattern because it’s a classy looking pant IMO. And I’ll probably do it in a grey like your daughters as I like the look of it very much.
I bet it is something with that pocket. When I made my first pair, I did something weird with that pocket. I have to slow myself down in that area to make sure I don't fluff something up!
I'm using my industrial Juki DDL-9000b in this video, but I also have a Bernina 700 that back stitches and cuts for me at the end as well. It's such a helpful feature!
Thank you Whitney, really appreciate your tutorials and refer back to them often. I have the Merchant & Mills Eve pants which I absolutely love, and they have a side zip but no pockets. Who doesn't put pockets in their pants?? Anyway, I want to add some, but I'm not sure how to go about it with the zip there. I've made a hack where I removed the zip and put elastic in the back with pockets in the sides which worked great, but I prefer the original waistband etc. Anyway, have you already made a video on this kind of change? If not, would you consider making one? or can you refer me elsewhere? Thank you again, so so much! :)
@@TomKatStitchery PS I’m so excited for your new venture! I’m sad I live so far away, but it will be so awesome for those able to attend! Your channel provides so much for us as is, so the possibility of classes - in person or online - is really great. All the very best with it!!
@@TomKatStitchery Finished my first pair. They look terrible on me! They come up way too high in the front. I look like Earkle! I made the tapered leg style and with my short legs they are not flattering on me. I doubt if I sew it again!

Thank you for the tutorial. I have a student who wants to make pillow covers with invisible zippers, and your tutorial was a good refresher.
Oh good!
I did same last week and forgot to attach the safety pin. Just what I needed. You answered a few of my queries here. Thanks!
Glad it helped!

It is a 5/8" seam allowance so I just left it as is.

Yes. I would size down next time.
Is that linen fabric?
Yes, the ones I'm working on are the linen pair.
