This is really cool! There have been so many instances where a glass or reflective surface catches a reflection of something I don't want it to catch, so being able to actually SEE where it's catching would be awsome
Thanks! :) I'm indeed working on turning this into an addon. One tricky thing (as mentioned in the talk) is that it needs a hacked version of blender to get a dump of the path/ray data. I'll need to talk to the Blender devs to see if we can enable the code that does the dumping by default, without causing too much of a rendering slowdown.
@@paulmelis1862 I would also love if you could share an add-on or source code to replicate what you shared in your presentation! I have been searching for such functionality and was disappointed to find out that no one had actually done it until I found your video!
What's with the camera shot from 12:30 to 13:30? The presenter is trying to explain some stuff on the screen so why did the editor kept the shot where the camera shows the less of it Great presentation though

great idea!
that would be a helpfull ADDON to understand and tweak rendering on a fundamental level.
This is absolutely my favorite talk of the conference!!! It'd be awesome if you developed an addon with a GUI. ^_^

Well, I'm working on getting it to work with the upcoming 2.79, as some of the Cycles internals changed slightly. The add-on exists in basic form.
any progress on this? if you don't have the time to finish it, would you mind sharing the code you have so far on github (or somewhere else)
