This is legit old school Goju-ryu Karate-Do here. Haven't seen this kind of training in quite a while. Kinda warms my heart that there are still some schools out there who still do "impact conditioning".
EDIT: The ridgehand strikes to the neck are particularly brutal. I notice that they aren't landing directly on the side of the neck tho, but slightly behind where theres more muscle. Gotta be VERY careful with those. You land one wrong and your partner is going down like a wet noodle. Those are nothing to play with, i think they should probably leave those out.

I visited a so call karate gym a month ago... I engages in light contacts (25%)during sparring session . But the sensei told me that I was going really hard and they usually don't even make contact at all.
I left and never went back. I am sorry, but that softy attitude is why some traditional martial artists get trampled over by other fighters. Trainings like the one I see in this video remove FEARS from your eyes, especially if your techniques are as good as your body conditioning.

What they are doing in this video is contracting the muscles where they will be struck to reduce damage. There are no significance muscles in the neck strong enough to absorb the impact of a roundhouse kick of all things. The best you could do is angle yourself and hope that the kick then misses the vital point.

Yeah. When ramping up power you start off much softer. We did minute long striking at each point. Part of the training is to learn how to absorb the power and the pain. Another part is matching your partner's power.
The striking is also painful. The striking area is also being trained. As you ramp up over time, you can dish out as well as take more power. (Like leveling up in a video game.😎)

  • @BigPanda096
    @BigPanda096 3 года назад +8

Studies have shown these types of trainings to be detrimental long term and cause more problems than they ever prevent.
It's much like the micro-fraxture knuckle technique. It doesn't make your knuckles harder, it deforms the bone. It causes them to become brittle later in life due to the way bone structures when broken. A broken bone will NEVER recover stronger than it once was, it will always recover weaker. The truth of this extends far beyond bone.
One of the practices that used to be taught to toughen people was "gut conditioning" which is basically brutally beating up someone's abdomen every day for years, thinking this made them more resistant to damage and more tolerable of pain. While it numbs nerves, it actually causes a heightened likelyhood of severe, fatal internal damage. Beating your organs and muscles does not "temper" them, it does not make you stronger. Beating your rib cage in does not make it harder to break, it makes it easier.
This type of conditioning causes severe long term skeletal misalignment. which causes muscles to grow improperly. This can exacerbate damage as muscles work by pulling a skeletal structure together that is meant to line up with itself.
Shifting your bones around inside can cause serious problems beyond the imagined. Things like severe glioblastoma, major migraines, ruptured spinal disks, torn cartilage are very common in people who practice these "conditioning" programs.
If you want to make your body more resistant in terms of pain tolerance, a greater effect than this conditioning with no skeletal or bodily repercussions in the long term, nerve shocking isnthe best alternative. Super hot showers and ice deluges. It causes the epidemic nerves to become less sensitive to transmission, meaning less pain felt. All this without the micro-fracture effect on your skeletal and nervous system from constant beating.
Your body, it's a lot like a truck. It's tough yeah, but beating up and driving it down that dirt road every day rattling all the seemingly insignificant parts lose causes it to quit working usually sooner rather than later. This conditioning is that dirt roaf.

see this is why i don't listen to shit random people have to say on the internet anymore. people like you spread misconceptions you heard from other equally misinformed people. i am saying this because you yourself have clearly NOT done bone conditioning to come to this conclusion. because not once in my life have i (for example) peed blood, had a seizure, had a limb go limp from your "neurological" damage, or had internal damage to my organs. any individual who has done bone conditioning and had negative gains, that is ALL the result of a poor, or rather outdated method of training, routine, diet, and/or recovery. because in my own, and should i say, more patient, training methods, i have gained a higher level of athleticism, agility, bone DENSITY FLEXIBILITY AND TOUGHNESS(most important of all), and not to mention, confidence in myself and happiness(what i couldn't break a month ago, such as a brick or a steel rod, i could break today, indicating a clear growth, in the practical sense), while it is a bit harder for me to stay afloat in pool water as a side effect from the added density of my bones, that only serves to remind me how far i've come with my training.
your body is not like a truck. because a truck does not have cells and billions of active biological mechanisms that actively modify, repair, or strengthen it's entire chassis. the human body is a very complex thing, and so is a truck, but they are two very different things.
i stand by all of my statements, as i have the practical, not outdated, AND concrete evidence that support all of my training, diet and recovery methods.

This is conditioning, but not in the way many are describing it in these comments. Its not so much that they're conditioning their body (ie making it stronger by taking the strikes) but rather their mind. The most effective thing to come of this practice is to prepare yourself for the pain that starts to come from strikes in a prolonged fight, where adrenaline starts to wear off and fatigue begins to set in. In doing this, you're effectively increasing your pain-tolerance threshold to become more accustomed to strikes, allowing you to continue fighting even if you get hit some during the scuffle.

As someone who has done this a lot, all it does is calcification, neurological damage and damage to ones organs. Peeing blood doesn't make you stronger. This does not make you tougher.

see this is why i don't listen to shit random people have to say on the internet anymore. people like you spread misconceptions you heard from other equally misinformed people. i am saying this because you have NOT done bone conditioning, you are only most likely saying that you have just to attempt to bring more validity to your comment. because not once in my life have i peed blood, had a seizure, had a limb go limp from your "neurological" damage, or had internal damage to my organs. if you HAVE done bone conditioning, and had negative side effects, that is ALL the result of a poor, or rather outdated method of training, routine, diet, and/or recovery. because in my own, and should i say, more patient, training methods, i have gained a higher level of athleticism, agility, bone DENSITY FLEXIBILITY AND TOUGHNESS(most important of all), and not to mention, confidence in myself and happiness(what i couldn't break a month ago, i could break today, indicating a clear growth, in the practical sense), while it is a bit harder for me to stay afloat in pool water as a side effect from the added density of my bones, that only serves to remind me how far i've come with my training.

I am doing martial arts for over 40 years and never trained to be kicked or punched. Why should anyone take this unnecessary beating. You going to be in pain and you weren't fighting.
