It happens in a state where you are sub - conscious and mostly to those who do loads of combat training. eg Soldiers even when asleep do not let go of their guns, even we sometimes stop just when we are about to fall from the bed while asleep because our muscle have that memory
The only thing that bugs me about this fight is none of Lee's attacks have any weight to them. I feel like they skimped out on the animation on this fight. Its was one of my favorite fights from the Manga. As some one who watched Naruto back when it first came out, its so awesome watching you 2 react to this.
