This rendition by Kanchana Sisters has captured my heart. I have had the great pleasure and good fortune of having heard their father (the venerable Kanchana Subbarathnam, famous violin maestro and Sangita guru) and grandfather (Kanchana Venkatasubrahmanyam, a great virtuoso musician and glorious preceptor in the Kanchana baani sangita) when they taught and sang and played this gem of a composition. Kanchana Sisters have inherited this glorious stylization 'the Sangita baani' from their forefathers. especially towards the end of the composition when they sing the most traditional and authentic variations of a melodic line of this raga 'yadukula / yarakala - kambhodhi'. Here again, the genius of the Karnataka Sangita system can be seen. It has inherited a regional raga (desi melody perhaps sung for a specific purpose amongst a clan of people called yarakalas - the then Andhra Pradesh - or yadukula, the last tribe remanent of the glorious Vijayanagar empire clansman) into its mainstream. without sacrificing on the nectar in its original melodic content, the great preceptors of this musical style codified its melodic ambrosia to make it out into the most loved and preserved raga in Karnataka Sangita traditions. Mudduswami Deekhita has taken this raga to altogether incredible excellence. Mrdangam accompaniment provided by Jayachandra and on violin accompaniment by Kanchana Sruti Ranjani (she has ably taken the dual roles as the main singer and an accompaniment too). The Videographers have again excelled in their design and creativity. the Audio team has again overcome many insurmountable challenges and provided a perfect synchronization of voice, instrument, and video. I urge and earnestly request all our viewers to realize all these extraordinary facts and work. Please do share these thoughts and music with all your people. Please do leave your comments and tell us what more do you want from the musicians. thanks.
The soul-stirring rendering of Diwakara Tanujam by Muthuswami Dikshitar in Raga Yadukula Kamboji by Kanchana Sisters is truly a numinous experience! Lord Shani, the son of Surya and Chhaya Devi and brother of Yama, is very powerful as he is the "Lord of Saturn" and is designated the task of granting the fruits of one's action aka karma. He is a teacher who poses challenges as well as helps one to contemplate to face the reality of NOW and touch the depth of knowing/being. Violin accompaniment by ShruthiRanjani Kanchana who also served as one of the main singers along with ShriRanjani and Mridangam accompaniment by Kulur JC Rao were assertive and harmonious. Spiritual discourse by Dr. Nanda Kumar is insightful. The integration and synchronization of the vocals, instruments, and videos appear seamless and flawless - kudos to the whole production team.
