In der Nähe der Stadt Magdeburg befindet sich eines der größten Wasserstraßenkreuze Europas. Es verbindet den Mittelland Kanal, den Elbe-Hafel Kanal mit Deutschlands drittgrößten Fluss, der Elbe und mit der Oder und Hafel. Der Mittellandkanal ist die mit 325 Kilometern längste künstliche Wasserstraße in Deutschland. Mit Hilfe moderner Schleusensysteme werden die Binnenschiffe auf bis zu 18 Metern unterschiedliche Höhenniveaus der Wasserstraßen befördert. Die Vorlandbrücke, die große Trogbrücke, in der die Binnenschiffe die Elbe überqueren und zwei Sparschleusen sind die imposantesten Bauwerke dieses Wasserstraßenkreuzes.
Near of the town Magdeburg is one of the biggest waterway cross of Europe. It connects the Mittelland channel, the Elbe-Hafel channel with Germany's third largest river, the Elbe and with the Oder and Hafel. The Mittelland channel is the longest with 325 km man-made waterway in Germany. Using modern lock systems, the barges are carried on up to 18 meters different height levels of the waterways. The approach bridge and the large trough bridge, in which the barges to cross the Elbe, are the imposing buildings of this waterway intersection.

Such a ship's canal has the same height above sea level from beginning to end. If the terrain rises, must be dug during construction, the area falls off, a dam must be heaped up. If the height differences become very large, we built a lock or a ship lift. The Waterway Cross in Magdeburg, Saxony-Anhalt in Germany is an imposing structure. I hope that my English was understandable.

I wonder if the land was digger for long distances along crossing to the Elbe river. Can anyone who is an expertise or engineer can explain this?

Der Ort heißt Hohenwarthe , Hohenwarte ohne H ist in der Nähe von Saalfeld.

Das hier erwähnte Hohenwarte liegt kurz hinter Magdeburg an der Elbe 😊

Sollte ja auch weder ein Lehrvideo noch eine umfangreiche Dokumentation werden sondern nur dazu anregen, sich das Wasserstraßenkreuz vielleicht mal selbst anzusehen :-)
