What a lovely topic! I guessed Rosie and that you wouldn't land on just one. my other half guessed golden conure. We weren't wrong 😂❤ I wasn't expecting amazons. That's so cute about Aurabella going back and forwards between you on the couch!
Just found your channel and subscribed. I enjoy your videos. I'm so pleased you reinforce about birds needing bird companionship. I got bourkes and budgies 7 years ago(separate cages) as beginners birds. I adore them, but I wish I had a cuddly bird. I hoped I could get a cuddle bird but my birds are free to fly all day and see I can't bring another species into the house.
Thanks for watching and subscribing! I think you could add another cuddly pair (not GCC) but I would add 2 so that they have a buddy, since your others already have their flocks. Going to think about it, maybe do an "inexpensive cuddly small" bird vid-
Only two of my flock are really cuddly. They can all be handled but these 2 hens are super cuddly. Floki loves to get on my lap and roll onto her back. She loves foot rubs. The other is Siggie. She loves to have us scratch her head and neck. Siggi is what we call, “the preen queen”. She surfs all over us, rubs her beak and preens us. We can pretty much do anything to her. Every one except, Ivar, loves to be handled. But, he loves when we talk to him. I think his biggest joy is to be able to go in and out of his cage at will during the day. 😊
Hmmm... I think you are right, my hens are more cuddly. I had a Caique that was soooo affectionate! She was also a she! Individual personalities really make a difference, I think, with Caiques.
I meant to add my Quaker - so I put a pic at the start. Yes, once they are more established, it changes. That's great that your quaker knowns that all is well even when you aren't around all of the time. Mine was surrendered to us because he started plucking and not eating since his owner was going to college.
My babies but also some I got as babies. Caiques are super social: I would say they are a little too busy having fun to cuddle too much, but one of the most affectionate birds I've had was a Caique. She would sit on her back and just have me love on her!
I have heard from others that Golden Conures are cuddly. My new Senegal loves pets, he just got the jist of scritches and now puts his head down all the time. He is getting really fun, he is starting to swing on the coffee trees and I bought a big pvc gym for them all to play on. I hung a ton of toys on it. I am working on the bird room for them too.
Congrats, I love Senegals! Be sure to have people handle him in addition to you so that he doesn't turn into a 1 person bird. I bet they will love the bird room!
My male quaker and sun conure are cuddly and love to be touched. I have GCCs and they love to be near me but get crabby if i touch them. They are one year old and a bit nippy... maybe it will change post-adolescence. I have lovebirds and while they sometimes come say hello none of them like hands. They are so cute, I wish i could pet them😢 None of the other birds you have can be bought legally here in China
Sorry you can't get other birds in China - I do appreciate the birds I have hear. I consider myself fortunate. Yes, your GCC should become less nippy. And I'm glad your Quaker and Sun Conure are cuddly, gives you 2 to love on!
@@ParrotBliss It's fine... I dearly love the birds I have. I left out one kind of bird that is also available here, cockatiels. I don't have any... they would be bullied by most of my other birds and their feather dust would be an issue
I was wondering how you feel about cross species flocks. I was wondering if I should get a conure or cockatiel but I'm only interested in getting one since I already have two budgies. Would the budgies provide enough company for the future cockatiel/conure for times when im not home?(kept in separate cages of course).
Conure, there are always exceptions, but no. They are aggressive with these species. Cockatiel? Will be a match made in heaven. But, it's best to have even numbers, they pick a best friend. My Budgies and Cockatiels live in the same cage, no problem. My GCC isn't allowed to go near the cage! Get a Cockatiel (or two!)
why "cockatiels used to be cuddly and it was unheard of to have a cockatiel that wasn't cuddly?" has something changed in the policy of a worldwide cockatiel diaspora so they aren't cuddly anymore? :-)
ahh, sorry, I've just listened to the rest of your speech. so something to do maybe with breeding for certain mutations? interesting. I had a cockatiel in the past and she let me touch her but only on the head. if I touched her belly she would try to bite me instantly. even if placed my finger before her to make her step up, her first, although weak, reflex would be to try and bite me, only then she would understand I just wanted her to step up and would step up. I just assumed that it's just how all parrots who weren't hand raised by human are. they only let you touch them on their head, nowhere else. before cockatiel I've had budgies (also raised by natural parents) and they all behave more or less the same way (more or less because they were even less willing to cuddle than the cockatiel).
We don't think Budgies are necessarily super cuddly; and it is weird about the Cockatiels. Mine won't let me pet her head either. Of course, only the head and neck should be pet, but affectionate ones allow it (shouldn't). All I can figure is that it's a breeding thing, it's been bred out of some of them.
I was interested to hear the cockatiel comments too..... I've never had one that doesn't like a head tickle, whether aviary-bred or hand reared. The hens tend to take a little longer to embrace physical contact in my experience, but then I find they're a little slower to warm to interactions with new people generally than the boys. I think the intensive breeding hypothesis is an interesting one! My rescue cockatiel behaves more like the umbrella cockatoo, going between me and my partner for tickles at the end of the day watching TV. Then she goes and preens one of the dogs.
Wooo this is amazing
Thanks!

Gracias, Yesid!

Yeah, I can never peg down just one! You'd be surprised. They are LOUD! Amazons are, but they are also usually so loving, loyal and affectionate too.

@@ParrotBliss nice :) Sounds like she was very special!
My WBC Buddy is more cuddly than my BHC Bingo. Bingo is just more of a busy body.
Is Buddy female?
@@ParrotBliss No he’s DNA Male. I got him because the breeder couldn’t find him a mate. He was literally in a parakeet cage!

@@ParrotBliss absolutely! Donna told me and also told me to supervise well because Senegals don't usually like other parrots, even their own species.
