Mannox, Kathrine's 1st "boyfriend" was actually 36 during their relationship. Kathrine was 13. History tries to paint her as a seductress, but she was really a sexually abused kid.

God, I just noticed that she has already stopped smiling by the time she gets to the second chorus. She started with a cheerleader smile, then it just went downhill the whole song. This is such an excellent performance. Every time I watch six content, I'm impressed how much these ladies pulled off with the limited time they had

I can't stop watching this play. I keep looking for more and more postings of more and more versions. Plus reactions. Plus animatics. Plus "Backyard Broadway," which was super fun, watching a group of teenage girls put on a show for their families, in somebody's backyard, and just having a ball, learning stuff, and gaining confidence. I LOVED it, flaws and all, mostly because even though every one of those girls goofed up at least once, they just went right along and powered through, so professionally. Professional doesn't mean perfect. It means you don't let your mistakes get you down, and you GET IT DONE. Which they did. Very fun! Would recommend.
I'll tell you what, though, watching a LITERAL TEENAGER sing "All You Wanna Do" just broke me. Not so much because it was a powerful performance, but because she was the same age as Katherine, when these older men took advantage. I mean, it literally could have been her, particularly because this actress was tall for her age, and many men would claim that "physical growth means maturity, so it's FINE!"
      Ugh.
This song just blows me away, every time, because of how it goes from that youthful idealism and thinking she's in love, "true love," only to realize that NONE of the men in her life actually do love her. Including her own father, uncle, and other male relatives who were SUPPOSED to look after her and protect her, but instead "hurled her" into the pit of fire that was Henry's "love" life. Her father or uncle or whoever was her legal guardian should have told the king, "She's too young. Give her time to grow up before you propose marriage. I refuse to give consent to the match, until she is fully grown."
But he didn't protect her, because Henry was hurling HER FAMILY up in the world, and her father and uncle WANTED that power that they got as a gift from Henry, in his gratitude for providing him with a hot piece of asssssssistant.
Combine this with "Daughter are so easy to forget," and you get a cesspit of misogyny, and treating women like tools and toys and worthless objects that serve two purposes - sexual pleasure and bearing sons.
And for the record, Katherine of Aragon DID bear a son to Henry VIII. In fact, she bore TWO sons. They were born healthy. But, because they both died in early infancy (like, within the first two months), he claimed they "didn't count," and that as long as he was married to her, he would have no children. He acknowledged ONE of his illegitimate children, the boy, but he did not legitimize him, which would have solved so many problems. Because the whole Leviticus thing was just an excuse to get Anne into his bed. Had he made Henry Fitzoy his heir, he'd have been stuck with Katherine of Aragon, and Anne would have continued to hold out (she held out for seven years, waiting for marriage, or nothing).
But, oddly, he didn't care about the rule about not sleeping with a lover's sister. He had Mary Boleyn first, and then Anne, and according to the Bible and the rules of the Catholic church at the time, that same consanguinity would prevent them having healthy sons, right? The very same excuse he used to get rid of Katherine could be applied to Anne, but he didn't CARE, until he decided he had to get rid of her. He COULD have done it, by saying, "Oh, whoopsies! I forgot about that whole thing with Mary. My bad. Yeah, our marriage was invalid, because I slept with her sister, first." But that would have meant admitting that he made a mistake. So, instead, he called Anne a witch, and claimed that she had used her magical powers to trap him into marriage, and then cheated with multiple men, including her own brother, just to make it REALLY impossible for her to escape. Also, he didn't want a re-do of Katherine, hanging on and fighting to the end, even after he had married Anne. He wanted a clean break for Jane.
And then, when Jane had the guts to ask him to show mercy to the Pilgrimage of Blood, and NO MURDER TENS OF THOUSANDS OF HIS SUBJECTS INCLUCING CHILDREN, he coldly reminded her of what he did to the last wife who tried to tell him what to do. She stopped pleading for mercy for the Catholics, he murdered TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, and she never said anything that wasn't hearts and flowers, again. And then, she died of natural causes, instead of because of her husband's temper.
Even in Jane's song, about how she loved him so much, she acknowledges that without her son, he would not have valued her.
Henry was just a horrible man, right on through his life, treating ALL the women in his life badly (except, perhaps, for Anne of Cleves. She went quietly, when he wanted a divorce, and because she submitted immediately, he named her his sister, and treated her better than his ACTUAL blood-related sisters, whom he treated harshly, because they were just USEFUL to him. Ugh.).
However, before he got in that jousting accident, and lost consciousness for two hours, he was not a COMPLETE tyrant. Historians agree that his tyranny truly began after his traumatic brain injury.
To Katherine, he was just an asshole with a bit too much power. To Anne and all those after her, he was a monster.
And perhaps, most of all, to poor Katherine Howard, who was A LITERAL CHILD, and he chopped her head off for being a victim of older men manipulating her.

@AuntLoopy123 it also took more than one try to behead her, making it more painful, Anne was behead with a sharp sword so it was 1 swing and dead, but katherine was beheaded with an age I'm pretty sure, so it took multiple tries, I can't imagine that pain.

Yeah, the first time you think one way about Catherine Howard - confidence, taking advantage of these men , etc but by the end of it you realise that she been taken advantage by all these men in her life and actually really can’t escape them. The studio recording doesn’t have the gasp she does at the end which makes it.
It’s a turning point in the show. There’s a lot a thought behind the song. This song takes a lot from Brittney Spears.

All of the songs are sad in their own way, (except maybe get down. I'm sure Cleaves was devastated, but the song is all badass vibes)
But I feel like this one really sucker punches you when you realize what is actually happening. The "he was 23" was actually the age gap between her and the guy, not how old he was. He was actually like, 36. And she got beheaded at like 20 because she was held accountable for the men that took advantage of her as a child. All of his wives had it bad, I just feel like some people want to paint Katherine as this like, seductress? She was literally just a girl getting pulled in every direction by powerful men because she happened to be beautiful. But then, I guess all of them were 🤦

      @@royalfrederick7019 Yep!
He went to meet her, early, IN DISGUISE, because he had this ridiculous notion that "true love knows," and that she would accept his advances, when this old man of no particular name started making advances upon AN ENGAGED WOMAN. Even if she had liked him, she'd have been wrong, if she had welcomed his advances.
The ONLY way he would have been happy is if she had looked at him with delight, for one half-second, and then coldly said, "I am NOT AVAILABLE. I am to be wed, and my heart will be true to my husband," and then fled, before he could explain anything. Oh, and then burst into joyous raptures, when she met him at the altar, proclaiming, "It's YOU!"
But she didn't know what was happening, anyway, because she didn't speak English, and apparently, nobody was translating anything, or at least not well. Plus, the whole "in disguise" thing.
Had he just shown up, and said, "Surprise! I'm your intended!" I am sure she would have greeted him warmly.
When he said he wanted a divorce, she submitted at once, without any sort of argument. She COULD have gone back to her brother, but then she would have had to give back the dowry, and Henry didn't want that. And Anna would have been sequestered again, and used for some other political match, and had to live a quiet life under the thumb of some man, or other.
She had a choice - marry and be someone's slave, or stay single for the rest of her life, without being allowed any sort of romance, but be FREE. She chose freedom, and found her social happiness in befriending lots of people, including Henry's children. She was the "favorite auntie," and in fact, Henry's favorite "sister," whom he loved better than his blood-sisters. I'm sure she was lonely, and longed for romantic love, from time to time. However, as a long-time single woman, I am also just as sure that she found PLENTY to enjoy in life, being single and fully free and in control. And rich enough to do whatever she wanted (except romance or travelling to German).

To me, my fave Katherine Howard in Six the Musical is Samantha Pauly. This version of All You Want To Do is hilarious for the most part. However, by the last time she sang “We have a connection…..”, she starts getting angry, louder, tearful, screaming and pushing off the other queens hands off of her aggressively, as if to say, “Don’t touch me!”. I stopped laughing and I was in shock, disbelief and I was gonna cry for her. With all due respect to the actress who played K Howard here in Los Angeles’s Pantages Theatre production of Six the Musical, I wish Samantha played this character, because she put nothing but lots of emotion into the acting side of her number. At first, I didn’t like her because she was a funny, yet cocky, superficial bitch, but in the end of the song, she broke my heart because she’s played a broken, sexually abused and emotionally damaged girl.
