Thank you for the flower statement. I once bought my dad a bouquet of flowers just because I knew he liked them bc he was a gardener in his retirement. He was in his 50s, and he teared up. He said he’d realized he’d never gotten flowers before. They were just a $3 gas station last minute idea, and it gave him an declaration of love that he had yet to experience for himself. Now that he’s passed on it’s one of many special memories I hold near to my heart.

The purpose of the Yule Ball was to find out who each Champion “treasured”. Professor McGonnogal said the Yule Ball has been a traditional of the Tournament since the beginning. That’s because the second Task has always been to save a loved one. What better way to find out who each Champion cared about enough to risk their own lives than to have a dance & see who they invited & spent time with. Cedric invited Cho Chang. Hermione went with Krum. Harry went with one of the Patil twins but spent all his time with his best friend, Ron.

The easy way to know how old a student is in Hogwarts is that it almost matches the school year they are in. You first start attending Hogwarts at year 1 when you are 11 years old. Then year 2 when you are 12. Year 3 at 13 years old. Year 4 at 14 years old. Year 5 is 15 years old. Year 6 is 16. And then your final year at Hogwarts is year 7 when you are 17 years old.
In the wizarding world you are considered an adult at 17 years old as apposed to the normal muggle world where an 18 year old is considered a legal adult.

The reason why Dumbledore yelled at Harry during the ceremony was because Dumbledore was worried about him being chosen. Once the name comes out of the Goblet of Fire, it becomes a magically binding contract that the person has to compete. And, as you saw in the movie, the tournament is extremely dangerous and wizards have died before during the competition. That's why there is an age limit in order to enter. You have to have reached an age where you've learned a certain amount of spells and magic so you can adequately defend yourself. In the book, it's Hermione who trains Harry for the tournament because she's so far advanced in her studies. I wish they put the training sessions in the movie because it shows how Harry prepared for each round.

I was 10yo when I read the first Harry Potter book, that was released in the US in 1998.
I was *hooked from that very first book* and, the Harry Potter book series became a significant part of my life.
Especially when I consider that the the last book came out in 2007, right after I turned 20yo.
I spent over 10 years 'patiently' waiting, for the next book to be released, until the series was complete.
Went to the Midnight book releases and... all of the things!
Hell, I even left parties I was at during and after High School to go and get the book(s) when they released at Midnight. 😂 Only to them go straight home and read it all the way through, until I finished. I'm a quick reader so, I should've spaced the books out but I just couldn't put any of them down!
I will forever be grateful that my Elementary School Librarian suggested I read the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone book they had just received.
I'm 36yo now with a almost 14 year old son who I was happy to pass my books down to. He absolutely loved them and I couldn't have been more excited!

Ron's a bit clueless and naive even for 14 when it comes to girls and romance. He's just noticed that Hermione is actually a girl that other guys are interested in. He doesn't even realize he's jealous.
Hermione turned 15 right after school started in September. Ron turns 15 March 1st and Harry doesn't turn 15 until July 31st after school ends on June 30th. She's almost a year older than the boys and girls tend to mature faster than boys in most cases anyway.

In the book Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Dumbledore explained to Harry that Priori Incantatem is when two wands with matching wand core connect. If you recall from the very first movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone or Philosopher's Stone when Harry got his wand Mr. Olivander said that the phoenix feather in Harry's wand had a matching feather in another wand that came from the same exact phoenix. The person that has the other feather in his wand is Voldemort.
Harry found out in the book version of Goblet of Fire that the phoenix was Dumbledore's bird, Fawks.
Because Harry and Voldemort has matching wand cores it means the wands are equal in power and relation. The wands really are brothers. As Harry's wand began to slowly beat Voldemort's wand it caused the Piori Incantatem spell to happen. That means the last few spells that a wand made reveals itself. So in this case not only did the last few murders that Voldemort's wand made expose itself to everyone in the graveyard, in the book version it also showed Wormtail's new silvery hand first as well.

Sorry to give you the bad news. It's not your fault you didn't know this but the producers and directors of this movie left out some important information from the book. One of them is the fact that Harry is STILL living with his aunt and uncle. Harry was only visiting the Weasley home because the Weasley family asked permission from the Dursleys to take him for a few days so that Harry can attend the Quidditch World Cup with them.
This is the movie where they start to leave massive key pieces of information that were in the books out of the movies. For example, Harry finds out that Dobby is now working at Hogwarts as a free elf and gets paid for it. Dobby is the one that gives Harry the Gillyweed and not Neville. Percy Weasley (one of Ron's older brothers that was a prefect at Hogwarts in the first three books and movies) has graduated and now works at the Ministry of Magic. At this point he was Barty Crouch Senior's personal assistant. There was another house elf in the story called Winky. She use to belong to the Crouch family until she was fired and freed. She went to Hogwarts to work there but was severely depressed about her new found freedom. Hermione did not react well to finding out that Hogwarts has a massive staff full of house elves and tries to no avail to free them all. She fails because none of them wants to be freed. Many of the Hogwarts house elves work in the kitchen located directly under the Great Hall and its them that have been cooking the meals for the school. The food is only magically summoned unto the tables in the Great Hall. But one of the biggest things that were left out from the books that many fans (including myself) that wished they could have included in the movie is the Quidditch World Cup match. In the book it was highly detailed and exciting.
That was just a Few of the Many things that were left out that I had mentioned. There are still far more interesting details like back stories reveals of main characters and how the last Tri Wizard Tournament maze task was different. Hopefully now that they are officially rebooting the series for HBO Max they will now add many of the details. Especially being that the book author is one of the executive producers.

This is my least favorite movie of the series as a book reader. Mainly because the director admitted that he didn't even read the book the movie is based on because the book was too long to read... They spent so much time making silly jokes that they wasted screen time that could've been put to better use, showing us shit that is actually important lol. I know things have to be cut because there's just not enough time in a movie to perfectly adapt a book, but to omit important things in order to show us shit that literally doesn't matter is a little mind boggling and goes to show how much the director cared about getting it right. All the way down to Dumbledore's "Did you put your name in the Goblet Of Fire!?" was a terrible decision by the director. At least we got a good meme out of it lol. It's still a good movie though.

Poor Ron not only feels an enormous amount of pressure to at least match his brothers in success and popularity but he is always the last in priority due to lack of money in his family. Not Molly and Author Weasley's faults. Not easy raising 7 kids on the salary of a Ministry of Magic Muggle Protection job that no one in the Wizarding world respects and cares about.

1 Crucio - Excruciating "Torture" in latin
2 Emperio - Imperial "Commanding" (and control) in latin
3 Avada Kedavra - "Let this thing be destroyed" in latin

Moody didn't use imperius to move the ferret (malfoy). He used some other spell like levioso, although it's impossible to tell since it was non verbal. The ferret made many attempts to get away and was squeeling in fright. If it had been imperio'd it wouldn't be able to fight the curse or be aware of what was happening.

Great reaction. But the thing you have to remember when it comes to Ron is that he is always living in someone else's shadow. He's jealous and nothing more. He's the best friend of the most famous wizard in the world. Aside from Dumbledore.
He's the youngest son out of six and the second youngest child out of seven, whose parents only tried for seven children because they wanted a girl. His only younger sibling is that girl. One of his brother's trains dragons, two of his brothers are on the quidditch team, and another one of his brothers was head boy for Gryffindor for his first two years at school. He never has the chance to be seen for himself. He's always the youngest Weasley boy, the last Weasley boy, or Harry Potter's best friend. No one ever looks at him as just Ron Weasley. This movie in the next are the only two times he's ever really had. Any sort of faltering belief in Harry, and he has some of the serious greatest moments. Overall. He's the best friend someone could have.

The reason the minimum age is 17 to enter the TriWizards Tournament is that in the Wizarding World 17 is the age of adulthood. It so happens the last year of magical school is when you've turned 17.
At 17, you are considered mature enough to make your own decisions and to be accountable for the consequences, including engaging in very dangerous activities. At 17, you also are able to quit school without completing or starting the final year.
In the previous film, at age 13, Harry and Hermione went through their first flush of puberty, which explains the aggression and the rebellion against authority. (Also explains Hermione's leaning into Ron.)
In this film, late bloomer Ron is hit massively with his own puberty, which is why he gets so jealous of the fame and attention Harry gets for being in the Tournament and the jealousy he feels about Krum taking Hermione to the Yule Ball; Ron's REAL problem is that he is so woefully blind to his own feelings. Likely his growing up in a crowded house left him no time to grapple with self-reflection.
I maintain Rita Skeeter is NOT a journalist, NOT a reporter; she's a gossip columnist. Very different animal.

Being sent to prison for using any one of the 3 unforgivable curses is when using them on people. He used them on a bug. Transformations are not unforgivable. Just 3 specific spells are unforgivable which are the Cruciatus Curse, which causes unbearable pain; the Imperius Curse, which allows the user to control the actions of the victim; and the Killing Curse, which causes instant death.
Ron is upset cause he thinks Harry figured a way to put his name in and didn't tell him. Harry is wealthy and doesn't need the large prize money but Ron's family is just getting by and could use the money. I don't think they tell us how much in the movie it is but it's 1000 galleons.

I don't recall them mentioning "turning someone temporarily into a ferret and then jiggling them around" as an unforgiveable curse: it's just the three he mentioned: Killing someone (Avada Kedavra), Controlling someone (Imperio), and torturing someone with unbelievable pain (Crucio). It's kinda a bureaucracy thing as there are other spells that will have similar effects to those but aren't explicitly illegal.
As for Moody, he's a high ranking "Auror" which are witches and wizards who hunt, detain and if necessary kill evil wizards and other magical outlaws. If there's a privilege in the Wizarding World they have it- including demonstrating the unforgivable curses at will. Being an auror is often a short and extremely unpleasant life so they've earned respect.

One of the biggest memes from the Harry Potter book fandom is "Dumbledore asked calmly", because when Dumbledore asks Harry "Did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?" in the books, it specifies that he asked it calmly. It truly was a mystifying directorial/acting decision (whichever it was) to have Dumbledore yell it while practically attacking Harry - like, I get the guy was worried, but Dumbledore doesnt broadcast his worries like that! Anyway, if you ever hear folks going "Dumbledore asked calmly", that's what that's referring to.

    1. Harry and Hermione are just visiting the Weaslys for the summer holidays/quidditch world cup. The Dursleys didn't really want him to go but there is a funny part in the book how they're convinced.
    2. Harry is still under the "care" of the Durslys. The book gives more explanation. But pretty much, he has to live with his mom's blood for magical protection until he turns 17.
    3. Sirius is still considered an escaped convict. They have nothing beyond Harry's word at this point to prove otherwise.
    4. It was funny you asked why Dumbledore was so angry. In the book, it points out that he asked Harry calmly if he put his name in the Goblet of Fire. So that scene in the movie is kind of a running joke in the fandom.
    5. What Moody did to Draco was just transfiguration, turning a person into an animal isn't one of the 3 unforgivables.
    6. Each contestant had their own way of breathing underwater. There are a few magical methods of doing it. Neville, being a herbology enthusiast, happened to know about Gillyweed (we find at the end of the movie that 'moody' made sure of that).
    7. The kids are older and now 14-17 year-olds. So yeah, romance will start playing a part. But it's never central.

They made a poor choice in depicting “Moody’s” use of the Imperius Curse on the spider. In the book, he has the spider dancing, doing cartwheels, etc, but that curse doesn’t let you just telekinetically zip the subject around the room through the air. It just makes the subject do what you want them to do, to the extent that they physically can. That poor choice in depicting it is what made you misunderstand what was done to Malfoy.

The old man at the beginning is the property caretaker, yes. The book goes further into his identity and an explanation of what his responsibilities are.
Harry and Hermione don't live with the Weasleys, they're just there ahead of the Quidditch World Cup trip.
"Something weird about Ron, guys." Teen angst, I think.
Changing someone into an animal isn't one of the unforgivable curses. There are only 3 of those - the imperio curse, which makes someone do what you want them to, regardless of their own wishes; the cruciatus curse, which tortures someone with unbearable pain (used enough, it can drive someone insane, or even kill them), and the killing curse, avada kedavra, whcih murders the victim (except for Harry, who was protected by his mother's sacrifice). Teachers aren't supposed to turn students into animals as a punishment, as McGongall tells Moody, but that's not because it's an unforgivable curse, just because Hogwart's policy is not to do that.
"How are the other ones breathing?" They're using magic, too, just different spells. Harry isn't old enough to have learned those spells, or into botany enough to have learned about gillyweed, but Neville is into botany, he likes plants, so he knew and could tell Harry about it.
We do meet the real Moody - at the end, in the trunk. LOL Other than that, no. ;)

This is a bit of info (Not really a spoiler but more information/extra) that was not put in the movie that explains what happened at the duel of Harry vs Voldemort. They talk about it in book 4 and it is never REALLY properly addressed in the series. It has to due with the wands Harry/Voldemort have. They are brothers, as was said in book/movie 1. Their core comes from the same thing (feathers from the same phoenix, as was told to us). Meaning the magic inside them kind of has the same frequency (for lack of a better term). This is the reason when their spells connected and tried to push against each other that strange scene happened with the ghostly representations of Voldemort victims appearing again to help Harry.

17 year olds are adults in the wizarding world That's why 17 was the minimum age limit to compete in this dangerous tournament; the Weasley twins, I believe, are 16 here and will turn 17 before the school year ends,, just missing the cut-off age. The other schools sent mostly students who were old enough to complete with a few extras to cheer them on. As Sirius said, whoever put Harry's name in the goblet was not doing him any favors. Ron truly believed at first that Harry had cheated and didn't tell Ron how he did it. When he realized Harry hadn't cheated they were friends again. The main 3 are 14 years old in this movie, experiencing the hormonal highs -- and lows -- that are very typical of this age. And girls mature -- emotional and mentally -- before boys do. Rowling wrote it so realistically as I -- who have studied adolescent psychology -- can see it. I heard her daughter was at that developmental stage at the time but don't know if that's a fact. BTW: It's easy to figure out their ages. #1 -- 11, #2 = 12, #3 = 13, etc.

You start your first year at 11 and there’s 7 years so usually their age is easy to figure out based on their year.
17 year olds would be in their 6th or 7th year based on when their birthday lands.
Ron’s birthday is in March, Harry’s is in July and Hermione is older because her birthday is at the end of September after the year cutoff date. So you can assume she is always a year older than the two boys.
Plus she used the time turner for a whole school year so she’s arguably older physically than her age based on year.
I’ve heard the argument that she was petrified in her second year which would have paused her physical aging but that was in spring near the end of the year.

Point One: "Harry lives with Ron, and Hermione?" Listen to what they say
Harry: "Hermione, when'd you get here?" Hermione: "Just now.... you?" Harry: "Last night". So no, Harry doesn't live with the Weasly's, he is visiting in preparation to go to the World Cup.
Two: Moody doesn't break the law vis-a-vie the Unforgivable Curses, as he is not performing them on a person, only on enlarged spiders.
Three: Turning Malfoy into a ferret is 'transfiguration", and lifting him in the air is levitation, which are NOT one of "The Three Unforgivable curses". The curses are: Imperio (mind control) Crucio (torture) and Avada Kedavra (killing)
Four: "How are things judged?" By how quickly and how skillfully they retrieved their eggs.
Five: "What did he (Dumbledore) just do to himself?" The wisps Dumbledore removed from his temple were memories. He put them in the 'Pensieve' to look at them more closely.
Six: In the book, the maze was filled with monsters, jinxes, and puzzles. They cut it ALL out to save time and money, which makes sense, but I felt gypped.
Seven: Harry & Voldermort's wands have tail-feathers from the same phoenix (Falks), so they 'connect' when used against one-another, and the wand whose owner has the greater will can force the other's wand to "regurgitate" ghost-like memories of the last few spells it cast. In the case of Voldermort's wand, the last four spells it had cast were to kill Cedric, the caretaker, James & Lily Potter (13 years earlier) so they were sort-of ghosts.

Well I bet the ratman was not bright enough to think up the plot himself... while Voldemort was not around to prod him. In a way, it is logical this all only came to pass in the fourth year - the dark lord must have used what he considered to be "safer" options first, too.
What bugs me more - although it is probably unavoidable seeing how the books are constructed "by school years" - that matters only come to a climax at the end of spring each time. :) I am so supporting the joke how Voldemort cares about kids' education! He never comes to kill while there are studies to be attended to. :D

Rita Skeeter squeezed Cedric's bum after messing with his hair.
Pretty boy Diggory didn't have to lean that close to whisper in Harry's ear.

Moody used a levitation spell to move ferret-Draco around. Not the Imperious (Mind control) curse like he did the Spider. I can see your confusion based on the visuals.
