In 1990 that wasn't necessarily saying a lot in terms of winning, since Jordan was not even a champion yet when this interview took place. Magic, Bird and Isiah were the standards for winning in 1990.

Thomas Burnett to give us insight of what Tiger, and other black golfers still go through in country clubs and playing that sport. It was a great question. People probably assumed that the racism is gone or is minimal, but I remember in the early 2000s, my teacher said some country clubs are still racially segregated and don’t allow black players, so they might let tiger play there for a tourney, but if he came back after, he might not be allowed on the basis of race

Amazing interview, especially about racism. Reminds me of another lesser known golfer, Papwa Sewgolum, an Indian in apartheid South Africa. He beat Gary Player but then was banned from playing golf because a person of darker skin was 'inferior' and sent the wrong message to the rest of the country. He had an amazing swing considering he was unorthodox, he was right-handed but held the club with his left hand below the right!
