Sorry the first one always gets me. The absolutely brilliant Majestic Fanfare plays, and then the newscaster just randomly saying “It is feared that the Prime Minister has drowned.” It could make it into a Monty Python sketch.
Was lucky enough to have spent a week of work experience at ABC studios in artarmon Sydney in 1989 - was privileged to have spend a day in news operations including on the set of the 7pm news with Richard Morecroft and the 7.30 report. Very special memories
aus broadcasters aint creative. they also steal the song "We are the One" from the ABC America and cover it. What a bloody mess. Anyway, the cover isnt that bad but it cant beat the original. PS. UK tv is the best.
Although admittedly the ABC "National" was a bit closer (if a bit more radical) than what the CBC did later on with Canada Now. I suspect they, like a lot of news outlets here in the 80s, (re-)learned that many of our states are a parochial lot - particularly, importing news from Sydney into Melbourne - as the main "National" did... before my time, but according to reports, the local window was limited - tends to be akin to death. (The clip here coming from the QLD version which kept more of its local news in comparison.) Needless to say, it didn't last; state based bulletins continue mostly to this day, and some of the deeper and shared stuff got reformulated into The 7.30 Report. Of course digital TV means national-scope bulletins are also seen on a news channel now, as seen here.
0:34 Ah, the news of the death of Harold Holt, the Prime Minister at the time who presumably drowned while swimming in the ocean. Ironically, they named a swimming pool in his honour after his death.
The logo for the 1985 ABC National reminds me of the golf-ball type element from an old IBM Selectric typewriter. The theme used from 1985 to 2005 is the best of the lot IMO.
@@IntroCollector Wow, thank you so much! And I think 0:36 is a rare footage since ABC Australia News page, Logopedia or Google Images search didn't have a result?
I miss the 2010-2017 era. Blue was the trademark ABC colour. I don’t like the black and capitalisation of the headlines currently. Feels like an angry funeral!

I like how the accents become more Aussie and less British overtime
@@RMArblx Newer microphones make you sound more Aussie and less British?
@@BruceHeselwood yes thats what I was saying
@@RMArblx it was mandated that you had to speak with a traditional english accent for some time on NZ and AUS tv
@@RileyDaBozz I'm pretty sure it was also the case with _British_ TV as well.
@@RMArblx well that’s fucking absurd.

The original theme is still used before news bulletins on ABC radio.
Channel 4 (UK) news theme out of nowhere! (Still used today so seemed even more weird here)
The ABC News Theme from 1952-1981 and 1983-1985 was Majestic Fanfare performed by The Queen's Light Hall Orchestra
They introduced a new intro last Monday, and a rare 1981 intro was recently found~
Update it when you can~
Any chance of the weather theme tune from the 60s?
Where did you find the footage at 0:50 of the man picking up the spool of tape and dropping it? I have been looking for that footage for ages

Love Australia from the Philippines. 🇦🇺❤️🇵🇭
3:41 Does the ABC has some sort of cooperation with Channel 4 in 1985? That tune is so similar.
I think its exactly the same
“......it is feared that the prime minister has drown”.
Lol
2:20 what’s the name of that song?
The 63-83 jingle does remind me of RAI's TG1 theme tune.
ABC Classic FM radio station had a variation of that tune up until a couple years ago (maybe they're still using it I dunno)
3:47 LOL -- British music and a Canadian title for the programme.
3:48 CBC Style Name mixed with Channel 4 News theme.
TanaponLive HD2 looks like they stole the theme

3:48 So they once used Channel 4 News' theme?
if the majestic fanfare isn't stuck in your head, you aint australian
1985 and 1988 are very futurist for this time
0:34 Ah, the news of the death of Harold Holt, the Prime Minister at the time who presumably drowned while swimming in the ocean. Ironically, they named a swimming pool in his honour after his death.
That, according to Wikipedia, was in December 1967.
Fascinating
In 1985 ABC National used Alan Hawkshaw's Best Endeavors

It fits for the current news. The world nowadays is an angry funeral.
You listen to all the headlines and today it's the same old shit. "Record lows" "Sliding towards recession" - blah blah. We're all still here
Love how you nick other peoples uploads and stick ridiculously sized graphics on top.
1985 it was channel 4 lol
Atn ch7
The newer intro stinks, said anyone left watching this far-left propaganda.
8:33 ABC News did the wrong spelling like @bbozek10 did
