I just saw that you posted part 2 . So I am now watching part one today , Saturday. Great tips and directions. Taping models always gets a mess , especially when taking the tape off . Great work, sanding , build . Mike .
I think we all make mistakes with our models. That's what keeps our builds challenging. How boring would modeling be if every build came with no challenges or problem-solving? Another great video Paul, looking forward to part 2. ~Ed
Every modeller, even the show-winners, stumble across a kit that just doesn't work for them. Fair play to you for your determination to save the sub. The bin must have been a tempting option Paul but, when you've got a lot of money invested in a major project, that's really a very last resort. I suppose you have to count this one as a lesson; as hard work, rather than the usual fun. Hopefully, something you learned during this debacle will save the day on a happier project. If you've ended-up with a decent display piece, I'd count that as a huge win. Every time you walk past it in years to come, you'll remember the grief it gave you but it can also act as a reminder that persistence pays off .............. eventually.😁👍
super cool model not one of us can say we make no mistakes I do it all the time. like you said warships don't look perfect in real life. gonna be sweet to see it done
For whatever its worth, the class name is pronounced " Gay-to ", not " Gah-to ". My grandfather helped build some of the Gato subs that were built at the Manitowoc Ship Builders in Manitowoc, Wi during WW2.
I don't know whats going on with notifications but I do not get them. I had to hunt you down because I have not see your videos for awhile. Great video .
I often buy duplicate kits. The first time around is a trial run in case I make a mistake or I'm not happy with how it came out. That way, the second time around, I know what to do and what not to do.
Just as an FYI to those unaware the "Stingray" depicted in the movie is not a real submarine. There was Stingray but she was a Salmon class submarine and one of the most storied sub of WW II but her hull number was 186. Hull number 161 was the ill-fated S-50 that sank in 1924.
See I only watch long videos. They tend to have more substance. Especially when it comes to reviews. I won't bother watching if they are less than 20 minutes. Anyway haven't built my Gato yet but now contemplating not using the PE I splurged on for it. Hmmm.
I guess if you're really good with PE, but otherwise RUN! Sell the set one bay. The build will be easier, funner, cheaper, and will come out a million times better....
You and I said, "I might watch that today" at the same time. I liked watching you fix a mistake. It helps me.

Used to have a slightly smaller scale Gato/Balao-class submarine. Always wanted to do one in the GUPPY III conversion.
Sounds fun!

We all learn from our mistakes..... I bet this build taught you a ton!!
That's the truth right there!!!
I’ve had models that fought me every step of the way and I got to the point where I didn’t care what It looked like I just wanted to finish it.

Wow now that's a sub !!! Lol
SO FAR, SO GOOD.
Revell. GATO. Submarine. Model. Build Part. 1
Spray glue!!
dont put sides before deck, you have phots in deck...soldering no proplem...
It is a GAY-TOE class submarine. I know I use to ride one.
When you make errors like this then you're able to correct them, you become a better modeler....
If that's true, after this build I should be the best modeler on earth! LMAO!
@@pauly7218 😆!!

That thing's gonna be HUGE. It's not the U.S.S. 2AHD Gato? lol. 😸 Pro tip? Never use super glue on a model. Use model glue. (Testor's)
I would appreciate some background on your pro tip, with perhaps further tips on using your Testor's.
@@user-lt6oh2bu7c Ohhh... I ain't built a model in eons, lol.
😲!!..What a HUGE kit!!
