Dermot Morgan, the actor who played Ted, died of a heart attack the day after they wrapped filming on the final episode of Father Ted. He was only 45. 😢 This year marked the 25th anniversary of his passing. 🙏 There’s a memorial to him somewhere in Merrion Square in Dublin. Edit: You should see Dermot’s other work like The Live Mike, Father Trendy, Scrap Saturday, Thank You Very Very Much, Mr. Eastwood (music video) and his stand up performances (on RUclips). Tommy kept laughing during the shaft song and they had to do take after take. At Dermots funeral Ardal whispered in to Tommy’s ear as the coffin was passing “you killed fr ted”😂
The original ending of this episode was a lot darker. Ted finds himself back at the same window from the beginning with Kevin preparing to jump, only this time instead of talk him down, Ted asks him to move over, implying he's resigned himself to being stuck on the island forever and also intends to commit suicide. Dermot Morgan, who played Ted, suddenly and tragically passed away the day after filming of the series had ended. Since they didn't find the suicide ending funny anyway, and as a tribute to Dermot (it's actually a common misconception the show was cancelled because he died, but this isn't true,) the creators changed it to a montage of all the funniest moments across the show, with the final ending implying life simply goes on for Ted.
Also bittersweet is the ‘Small, Far Away’ documentary about Father Ted. There are also a couple of documentaries about Dermot Morgan’s life and career prior to Father Ted as a comedian / satirist in Ireland on radio and tv there, his triumphs and his frustrations. Father Ted was going to be the stepping stone to other things he hoped to do now he’d achieved stardom, but it ended up being the apex of his career - and not a bad one. RIP Dermot Morgan.

Before location filming on the third and final series of Father Ted, Morgan underwent a mandatory medical examination in which he was found to have high blood pressure, and was prescribed medication. On 28 February 1998, one day after recording the series' final episode, Morgan suffered a heart attack while hosting a dinner party at his home in London's Hounslow area, at which the Scottish musician Jim Diamond was present. He was rushed to hospital, but died soon afterward. He was 45 years old. Morgan's sister Denise said "He wasn't feeling great at the end of the meal and I went to the bedroom with him. He had a heart attack, and I didn't recognise it. From my limited training in first aid, I wasn't sure exactly what was happening. The symptoms didn't match what the books said. I said to him 'I think you are okay' and we went back to the table. He apologised for having left the room and the next thing he just collapsed. We tried to resuscitate him but it didn't work." I’ve watched all of your Fr Ted reactions, and I just wanted to say thank you! Well done for getting to the end. Was great watching you guys appreciate it as much as we did originally. I don’t mind admitting, I was crushed when it ended. I’d been living in Moscow when the final season aired, and I’d come back with an acute case of depression (it wasn’t a pleasant experience!). My dad had taped the entire final season whilst I was away, so on my first night home, I watched the entire lot, thinking it would cheer me up. At the end of the last episode, I think I wept for a solid hour. Of course, I’d heard about Dermot Morgan passing whilst I was abroad, and the sadness of it hit me like a wave. Watching them back now though has brought a smile to my face from beginning to end. 😁 That final montage, by the way, features a scene from every episode in every season. It was the perfect way to end it. Also, ‘Kevin’ the suicidal priest is, is played by a well known Irish stand up comedian, Tommy Tiernan. He’s great. There’s a clip of him here in action that’s well worth a reaction!! ruclips.net/video/0v--fTVAWE8/видео.html Oh, and I know others have mentioned it, but the documentary ‘Small, Far Away’, is very much worth a watch. If Derm and Frank were still here, I'm pretty sure it would've come back in some form. There was too much love for this show, which to this very day has never gone away.
It's been great watching Father Ted with you and the Queen and it was a bittersweet ending to a great comedy series . So sad about Dermot Morgan but this series ensures he wil not be forgotten by anyone with a sense of humour .
I watched them all again for like the 10th time along with you guys.. was great seeing others like the show as much as you did.. it gets better and better and youll notice wee things the more you watch.. good job dudes and thanks for making me watch father ted again..
Sorry that it's over, but it's been really great to relive the show through your eyes. So many to choose from, but my best Boomer moments were: Queen: successfully predicting the outcome of plots from a number of episodes. King: lots of funny Brian moments, but nothing for me will top the reaction to seeing Father Jack for the first time after he threw the bottle into the television. Watching that moment at 0.25 speed makes it even funnier.
I think you guys would really enjoy a sketch show called Big Train. It was broadcast on the BBC shortly after Father Ted ended it’s run, it had the same writers as Father Ted and featured some of the funniest comic actors around at the time (including Mark Heap, Kevin Eldon, Amelia Bullmore and a very young Simon Pegg!). The sketches were completely absurd (such as a Wild West shootout between Chaka Khan and the Bee Gees). I think you guys would have a blast watching it, and would love to see your reactions to it 😂
Fun fact - this episode had an alternative ending, where the show returns to the priest conference named 'It's still great being a priest', the depressed priest is back on the ledge, only this time, father ted depressed at the thought of staying at craggy island joins him on the ledge and says 'Move up a bit'. The writers were not happy with this ending even before dermots passing, but i feel his death certified the killing of that ending. I believe the scene was filmed but the footage was never publicly released and this ending only exists in script form from the shows script book
Dermot Morgan RIP Ted. Passed away after this episode was finished filming. In his last scene when Dougal rpts forever and ever the crew commented on how grey he looked... He was feeling ill at that time but shrugged it off. 🥺
Thank you for your wonderful reactions to Father Ted King and Queen Boomer! I loved this programme when it first aired and it's still one of my favourite comedies 25 years on. Re-discovering it with you both has been a televisual highlight of the last year. Now to make a cup of tea, cheers! 🙂
I loved the ending to Father Ted. It was so perfect, and some contentment can be found in it. Even though Ted is doomed to spend the rest of his life on Craggy Island with Dougal, Jack and Mrs. Doyle, and none of his dreams will come true…there is solace to be found in being part of a strange family in a forever barmy, yet familiar place. And for the showrunners to recap the entire series in a montage with a beautiful rendition of the Father Ted…it’s a perfect tribute to Dermot Morgan and really hits home what an amazing show it was. I’ve so loved your reactions to Father Ted, guys! Lots of great sitcoms out there I can recommend reacting to like Phoenix Nights, The Young Ones and The Vicar of Dibley (to name a few!). Thanks for the ace reactions and keep on rockin’! 🙂👍🏻
@@Fireglo Well…maybe doomed was the wrong word. But my point stands that Ted had the chance to go to America and leave behind Dougal, Jack and Mrs. Doyle, and he chose to stay with them on Craggy Island instead, forsaking his one big chance.
The ending, as originally filmed, had Ted about to throw himself out of the window rather than face life with Jack and Dougal on Craggy Island. It was then decided that this wouldn’t be a good way to end the show so they did the montage instead. Some people mistakenly believe that the montage was used because of Dermot’s death but Mathews and Linehan have stated that the decision to do the montage instead was made before the episode had been completed and Dermot was still alive.
Enjoyed following your reaction to this. R.I.P Dermot Morgan who died the day after this episode ended filming and Frank Kelly who died on the same date, 18 years later.

I think it's a testament to the show that not only is it still funny all these years later (I'm in pain still and i've seen the episodes so many times) but also that people still find the show and become fans. It is, by any measure of the word, a classic. (my daughter found the series a few years ago when she was 12 and asked me about it - she thought it was (and still is) hilarious).

Balance of happy and sad. Well done queen that’s how traditional Irish music is played . A sad song is always followed by riotous song and before you get to riotous they pull ya back down with some beautiful sadness. Beautiful sadness writing those words just reminded me of our beautiful Sinead o Conner who we lost yesterday, may her soul finally find peace.
I haven't read through 600 comments, but Father Brian Eno is THE Brian Eno who played keyboards for Roxy Music and co-produced David Bowie's trilogy of Berlin albums, invented the term "ambient music" and has done loads else, so it's nice to see him spending 2 seconds in a Father Ted episode just for the hell of it.
in 2011 the two writers with frank kelly(father jack) and ardel O hanlen(father dougal) did a reunion documentary called Small, Far Away: The World of Father Ted bit of nostalgia to watch
Ahh, guys that was really happy and really sad at the same time. Loved your reaction to an amazingly funny show. But knowing it was the last one for obvious reasons.... just sad. Cut short in his time. Thanks for a great one guys. Love and peace to you. Jxx
I watched some episodes when living in the republic of Ireland, Some of my Irish friends were interested in how us 'Brits' saw Father Ted and asked if we thought it made them look stupid? I said you could not be more wrong, everyone I know loves this show and it clearly showcases the world famous Irish sense of humour, it has done nothing but good things for the impression it gave of the Irish and their fantastic natural sense of humour, Having worked as the only Englishman on a factory of over 500 people I can vouch for their sense of humour, I had some serious belly laughs while there, even if sometimes it was at my expense, God bless Ireland. I think I have watched every episode dozens of times, I never get tired of a bit of 'Ted'
Next you should watch "Small, Far Away" in honour of understanding Ted.... Next you should maybe do "Still Game" - it's not the outright funnest but it is a lovely mix of funny whilst being humble.
To King and Queen Boomer. Thank you so much for taking me on your Father Ted journey. 🥰🥰 I'm a massive fan of both Father Ted and you two, and the two things combined is double the pleasure. Thank You. 😍😍😍😍😍 To King Boomer. Have you considered eating McDonalds, Pizza, Kebabs and drinking Beer, Wine, Hard Cider and melted animal fat so that your belly gets bigger at the same rate as Queen Boomer? 😆😆
I went to a comedy show earlier this year staring Ardal O'hanlon. He's an amazingly smart man, but he made a lot of jokes about being called stupid because he played Dougal. I feel a bit blessed to be honest to see a man in real life who shaped a lot of my childhood with his comedy.
I heartily recommend the 1988 Irish action film 'Taffin'. Starring a young Pierce Brosnan (in between Remington Steele and Bond) as Mark Taffin, a handsome yet brooding tough guy debt-collector/local hero. It also features several of the cast members of Father Ted - Frank Kelly (Father Jack) is, ironically, the landlord of the local pub; Gerard McSorley (the impostor Todd Unctious) is Taffin's best mate, and Father Ted himself, Dermot Morgan, is the MC introducing strippers at the local nightclub. It's a cracking little film and often overlooked.

If Derm and Frank were still here, I'm pretty sure it would've come back in some form. There was too much love for this show, which to this very day has never gone away.
While true, it would've been great if we got more Father Ted down the line as Christmas specials or one-off things for Comic Relief etc.
@@The-UnderbakerI doubt that would have happened. Dermot Morgan prior to his death stated that he didn't want to be typecast.
@@eclectica1 Waiting twenty or so years for a five minute skit (and for charity) would be a different thing entirely though.
So many to choose from, but my best Boomer moments were:
Queen: successfully predicting the outcome of plots from a number of episodes.
I think you guys would have a blast watching it, and would love to see your reactions to it 😂
One of the all time great comedy shows and I will never tire watching it. The IT crowd is excellent too.
Thanks for doing all these reactions guys. It makes me appreciate the comedy more to see a new audience laughing their heads off! Love from England x
You’d love Black Books and the IT Crowd, plus Derry Girls with Tommy Tiernan as the dad Gerry is wonderful.
IT Crowd is wonderful and I think you'll get the humour
Awwwww...... I share your feelings about the show. I still rewatch this show from time to time, every few years.
The Thin Blue Line........Quite funny too..... Worth checking out for a watch-along.
i recommed Garth Marangy's Dark Place.
The writer of Father Ted appears in it as a guest, and Steve Merchant.
Graham write IT Crowd as weĺl.
I mean he's hardly doomed to stay there. He can simply leave the priesthood and move away.
@@Fireglo Well…maybe doomed was the wrong word. But my point stands that Ted had the chance to go to America and leave behind Dougal, Jack and Mrs. Doyle, and he chose to stay with them on Craggy Island instead, forsaking his one big chance.
@@MrDCWood because he learned at last minute that his job opportunity was actually trying to convert inner city gangs.
@@GrilloTheFlightless I doubt that ending was ever filmed. I'm pretty sure if it was they would have shown it during the Small Far Away documentary.
Enjoyed following your reaction to this. R.I.P Dermot Morgan who died the day after this episode ended filming and Frank Kelly who died on the same date, 18 years later.
Please give the IT Crowd a second chance, it’s written by Graham Linehan who wrote Father Ted. Very funny in my opinion and worth a look.
top channel and top series. I would suggested "Derry Girls" next. i think the royal family will like it. Father Kevin is the dad in the program.
Also Dougal appears in the final episode of Derry Girls
45:21 When Covid first hit I found a custom mask manufacturer and got the Father Ted 'Careful Now / Down With This Sort Of Thing' banners printed on it. £30 for 10 washable masks but well worth it :D
" Down with this sort of thing?" ...... What does that mean?
- Asked by an Irish lady.....
You should watch Derry Girls. The actor playing the suicidal priest plays a main character. In the final episode of Derry Girls, the actor playing Dougal has a part in the final episode.
🥰Thanks to you both for reacting to Father Ted!!! I've loved the series for a long time & I loved seeing y'all enjoy it too!!! - Here's some suggestions for more series: -Fawlty Towers -The IT Crowd -Absolutely Fabulous -Black Books -Blackadder -The Vicar of Dibley -Mrs. Brown's Boys -Thanks!!!
Loved going on this Ted journey with you King and Queen B. This show was important to me in the first lockdown. Was it just me that got a bit tearful? The IT Crowd is a ballbustingly funny and quite surreal in a good way sitcom in a cracking sitcom setting. You will love it.
The end of an era - but yes definitely do the IT crowd - you will love it!
Do check out the documentary about it. And this is my irish self coming out here, but I would call it irish show and English production, considering all Irish cast writers, outside locations filmed in Ireland. But anyway it's sad to see this end with yous and do check out the documentary
I can't recommend One Foot in the Grave enough! I remember a reaction vid a while back King Boomer saying old men flipping out is hilarious to him 😂Victor won't disappoint!
Derry Girls too! A comedic take on what life was really like for teens in 1990's NI. An absolute Gem! 💎
Feels like an end of an era, but we got MUCH MUCH more in store for you both to enjoy! 🤟
Well somehow I've watched u 2 react to every episode of this fantastic show can't say how many times I've watched the show the reactions have been hilarious 😆 😊
The IT Crowd is SUPERB!
It's sad to reach the end of it, but it is so re-watchable! Growing up watching it since it came out I can still watch it and it never gets old
I've returned to Craggy Island many times!
Father Ted was comedy gold PERIOD
Seeing how much you've enjoyed Father Ted I think you'd love Phoenix Nights and Alan Partridge. I heard Queen Boomer mention Derry Girls, that's class as is The Young Offenders
Thanks for watching. Love father Ted and the ending always brings a little tear to my eye. If only we got more seasons :( RIP Ted and Jack x
Small, far away - the world of father ted is like a documentary the actors all meet up ect. They talk about Dermot Morgan too. If you really want to see something father ted related that's always an option. It's on youtube.
Please watch the documentary about Father Ted. Its called "Small, far away". It features a lot of the actors who appeared on the show including Frank Kelly who played Jack and Ardal O'Hanlon who played Dougal.
You need to watch the it crowd. Same writer that made father Ted and you and Queen boomer would love it. ❤
If you're looking for a show to replace this one, you can't go wrong with Black Books.
I used to watch this early 2000 when i lived in UK and was so awesome watching with you. I watched all. You two are awesome couple. Please take care of each other.
🤣 how lucky are you KB to have personal Father Ted themes sung by the Queen …. Possibly she will use it when you least expect it 😅
It’s a hilarious but bittersweet episode that leaves you with a feeling kinda like the last Blackadder episode when you know the back story to post filming tragedy … 😮
👍🏴
The final few minutes always get to me. But what a legacy Dermot Morgan left and fact father ted is still getting new fans is a testament to just how great this show will always be.
Thanks for the reactions guys.
- If I had to move to the USA, the states i'd choose would be either Washington or Maine. I prefer cold over heat and they're closest to the climate i'm used to in England. (no chance I could live in Florida as i'd melt within a day! lol)
- I'm glad we got a Queen Boomer jingle for the last episode of Father Ted. 😎
- First time I heard of Reno was in 1989 due to the movie, "Blind Fury".
Glad you both loved this show!
The day after they filmed the final episode. Dermot Morgan collapsed and died of a heart attack aged 45 while hosting a dinner party. He is missed
Some people think it may have been because of all the dancing during the Shaft song, they had to film it lots of times.
Loved watching along. Seen these countless times but felt like experiencing them all over again for the first time with you. So glad that all the humor translated so well for you guys. There is a documentary about Father Ted you guys could react to. Small, Far Away: The World of Father Ted. You would both love that.
So sad to see such a fantastic show come to an end. I`ve enjoyed every second of every episode watched again. Always feel so sad when i know some of the actors are no longer with us... But, thanks for the memories one and all... 🤟..Tony...xx ( good luck to baby boomer... ) keep on with our brill comedy shows guys..loads more..👍
There's a documentary they made a couple of years later on father ted called small but far away be great if you reacted to that it's very well done it features the creators of father ted and many of the actors who were in the show
I'm with Queen, those sad songs say so much. It's good to feel their gentle touch, it's like they reach in to your room.
Yup what a brilliant show, one of the best ever comedy series that we had here in the uk, brilliant scripts brilliant actors, we will never ever see such funny comedy again, thats for sure!!!!
You's guys should react to the 'small, far away' documentary about fr ted. Great insight. Ardal (Dougal) and Frank (Jack) feature heavily on it looking back on the filming / going to the locations etc...
Theres an extra called "small - far away, the world of father ted" you still have to react to! Its a mini docu about ft with most of the cast.
Loved your Fr Ted reactions - sad that it’s over.
I reckon you’d love Fawlty Towers, definitely one to check out in the future
Balance of happy and sad. Well done queen that’s how traditional Irish music is played . A sad song is always followed by riotous song and before you get to riotous they pull ya back down with some beautiful sadness. Beautiful sadness writing those words just reminded me of our beautiful Sinead o Conner who we lost yesterday, may her soul finally find peace.
Ngl, I cried a little at the end there. It's been really good watching the show with you guys! ❤
I haven't read through 600 comments, but Father Brian Eno is THE Brian Eno who played keyboards for Roxy Music and co-produced David Bowie's trilogy of Berlin albums, invented the term "ambient music" and has done loads else, so it's nice to see him spending 2 seconds in a Father Ted episode just for the hell of it.
in 2011 the two writers with frank kelly(father jack) and ardel O hanlen(father dougal) did a reunion documentary called Small, Far Away: The World of Father Ted
bit of nostalgia to watch
I'm a massive fan of both Father Ted and you two, and the two things combined is double the pleasure. Thank You. 😍😍😍😍😍
To King Boomer. Have you considered eating McDonalds, Pizza, Kebabs and drinking Beer, Wine, Hard Cider and melted animal fat so that your belly gets bigger at the same rate as Queen Boomer? 😆😆
It was sad it was the end. But on a brighter note: You have 12 series of the UK Red Dwarf to watch !
I went to a comedy show earlier this year staring Ardal O'hanlon. He's an amazingly smart man, but he made a lot of jokes about being called stupid because he played Dougal. I feel a bit blessed to be honest to see a man in real life who shaped a lot of my childhood with his comedy.
Graham Lineham wrote some classics - along with Father Ted he also wrote Black Books and The IT Crowd.
There is an island off the west coast of Ireland, where a Father Ted festival is now held every year.....
Father Brian Eno. Excellent
Was thinking what classic comedy you could do next - I think maybe Blackadder (2-4) or Red Dwarf or One Foot in the Grave.
Father Ted is one of the funniest TV shows ever imo, glad you both enjoyed it too.
So sad that he died shortly after .. I miss him. The closing credits of this episode always gives me a lump in my throat
Re: what you were saying about country music. I always remember there was an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer where poor Xander had had his heart broken, and said that he was going to "go home and listen to Country music, the music of pain".
Always made me laugh.
