  • An exterior view of the C-47 better known as "Old Number 30" which was used in WW2 and later used as a corporate aircraft after the war. The interior is still in the "corporate aircraft" set up, but according to the museum, there are plans to restore the interior to the way it was back in the 1940s.
The Douglas C-47 is the military version of the Douglas DC-3. This aircraft resides at the Commemorative Air Force Museum in Mesa, Arizona and is airworthy. Old Number 30 flies passengers over the Arizona desert and flight information on the C-47 and other warbirds can be found on the CAF's website:

Awesome, love it! My grandpa was a navigator in a C-47 in WW2. Could listen to those stories for hours when I was a kid.

That museum is a playground for big kids with an aviation obsession. Being able to climb in 75-year-old airplanes without supervision was a real treat.

You do indeed. There are multiple CAF museums. These old warbirds are awesome to see and it's even better knowing the ticket money is going to help restore and to keep these aircraft flying for years to come.

Thanks for this! I flew in this same aircraft at an airshow in Prescott AZ and always wondered where it may be today. It was very memorable as there were two T6 Texans flying in formation with us. Excellent experience. If I am not mistaken, this model did time in north Africa in WW2. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct. According to the CAF website, Old Number 30 operated in the Mediterranean theater with specific locations of North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. The ride you described sounds amazing and even more so with two Texans in formation with the C47.
