@@junwusgf learning to read and type hangul is a matter of literally few days. weeks if you are extremely lazy and not committed. after that it's only a matter of getting used to it before you can type at a comfortable speed and still, you don't even have to know anything about the text you're typing down, not even the way it sounds. translation apps will do the job for you, so you don't even need to study the language if you don't feel like it.
we're only talking about reading it. learning any language is a whole different thing. if you read a little about hangul you will understand what robert meant when he wrote that. it's not just his opinion to praise an alphabet because he likes it. hangul is one of the few artificial alphabets that was made with sole purpose of being easy to learn and understand, because chinese was way too complicated, which even native chinese people agree with, not to mention koreans.
im not gonna persue you to learn korean, but seeing people complaining about being unable to read hangul feels just funny to me. because i started off the same way with one exception. instead of complaining i gave it a try, because i just wanted to know what all the texts mean. learning to read took me 3 or 4 days and at that time i was ready to simply stop and consider myself done, but i decided to just keep studying and if you happen to know english, there's really no excuses other than yourself not wanting to do that. english is my second language that i self-taught myself and now i'm studying korean with my self-taught, far from perfect english, that still is more than enough. and if english is your mother tongue, it's even easier for you. especially if you've studied another lang and got experience with learning a different language.
ive studied english for about 11 years now, korean for 2 and if anyone wants some tips, where to start etc. just reply to me and i can share my experiences, methods, apps and sources that i used and currently am using to keep progressing. i also never spent a cent on my studies, so there's that if anyone's concerned
